Leith was grateful for the peace and quiet that followed after the diplomat had left, the quiet being a new addition. The fact that the buzzing in his head was gone was amazing. It had been five years years of endless noise, and in an instant, it was gone. As he bandaged his arm and offered to clean up Coco's head wound, he waited for the buzzing to come back as if it were a trick, but it didn't. There was just silence. He enjoyed the silence until Althalus started speaking again.
Leith sat up and listened to both Grey and Coco, chuckling when Coco said that she was a tough tree, before he gave his thoughts. "The kid should know more about the people we're after. Questioning him might be a good idea." He paused. "I'm also thinking that if he is fully cooperative, key word being fully, he could possibly give us an edge. It'd be a lot better than having him as dead weight, and he did seem dead set on going after these men before he sicced the town on us."
Leith listened to the man, and sighed audibly when he called the Naga monsters. Obviously, the man failed to think before he spoke. He hoped the man wouldn't say anything else that could cause hostility towards him. Unfortunately, the next thing the man said was that the Naga city had been wiped out. For a moment, there was silence as the words sunk in.
Then Grey attacked the man again. This time, however, it looked like he was intending on killing the man. Leith stood up and caught Grey's arm with his right hand. Yet again, Leith was glad that the Hand of Ginax had fused to his arm; he wouldn't have been able to stop Grey's arm otherwise. "What do you think you are doing?" he asked coolly. "He did seem to relish telling us that Messa Gaan is no more, but that is no reason to kill a man." Leith let go of Grey's arm. "Our job is to find and deal with these rogue mages, not to kill diplomats."
Leith relaxed as he left the house. It was over. It had felt like ages, but it probably hadn't been that long. He looked at his arm and sighed. The wound needed to be treated sooner rather than later. He made his way back to the carriage and grabbed his bag. After a few moments of rifling through it, he found what he was looking for; his waterskin, a small jar of poultice, and some cloth bandages. He should probably go see to the wounds Coco had as well.
Putting the strap to his waterskin over his shoulder, Leith made his way back to the group. He arrived in time to see someone barrel into Grey. As the man babbled to Grey, Leith noticed the wounds the man was sporting. He adjusted his cloak to hide his right hand and hurried over to the man.
When the man suddenly stopped talking, Leith frowned. Had something gone wrong with him? Leith's question was answered when the man demanded to know what a monster was doing here. The reaction was instantaneous. The first thing that happened was Mar rising to her full height and hissing, then, Althalus levelled his crossbow at the man, but the worst reaction was from Grey. Heat rushed to Leith's face as he felt a flash of anger when Grey slapped the man.
The man was clearly outnumbered and the most wounded of the bunch. He didn't need to be slapped. Leith wouldn't have minded if Grey just picked the man up by the collar as he chewed him out. With a calming breath, Leith let the anger dissipate. It wouldn't do to be angry. He could still feel some heat in his face, but he ignored it. With that out of the way, he continued to the man on the ground.
Leith kneeled beside the man. He looked dazed, but he was still conscious. Leith snapped his fingers at the man until he looked focused enough. "I'm sorry about that." He shot Grey a loaded look before looking back at the man. "I believe you could understand if someone insulted one of the people you work with." He paused for a moment. "We are looking for some men, and from the looks of it, you ran into them. Tell you what. I'll patch you up and you can tell us what happened while I do so. Sound good? Also, my hand is kinda messed up. Don't mind it and we'll be fine." With that, Leith sat back and waited for the man's answer.
Darius
Darius was planning to tackle the robed man on the bridge, but a wild swing from Alaira made him pause. With her blindly attacking the man, he couldn't do anything to hinder the man, so he folded his arms and waited for Alaira to make contact. He ignored Meirin as she ran past. It did not take long for the man to disappear after that. Darius nodded when the man disappeared. Ssarak must have dealt with the man. He looked to his left and saw Meirin bringing the man out of the water. Without knowing if the robed man was alive or not, Darius decided to move Alaira out of the man's sight.
He walked over to the half-elf and picked up her mace. He then crouched down in front of her. "Can you stand? We need to assess the damage."
Darius wiped the spit off his face and sighed. "Very well." He knocked the man's hand out of the way and drew his dagger. He was about to follow through with his promise before he was stopped by Ssarak shouting in his mind 'Darius, in the water! The psychomancer is escaping. He is still a threat to Alaira.' Darius looked up to see Alaira fighting with the robed man. Confused, he looked towards Ssarak and saw him flying towards another robed man.
For a few seconds, Darius had no idea what was going on, but then it made sense. One of the robed men weren't real. Either way, he was not going to get into the water, he could not swim. Not sure what to do, Darius called out in his mind 'I cannot swim.' If the robed man was floating away, that meant that he could still be a threat later on, and that would not be good.
Darius looked down at the man and smiled. "You are a lucky bastard." And with that, he moved his knee and grabbed the sides of the man's neck, cutting the blood of from his brain. When the guardsman went limp, Darius let go, rolled the man onto his side and cut a strip of cloth from his pants. Darius needed to be quick and bind the man's hands before he woke up. With that out of the way, Darius stood up and ran towards the man on the bridge. He was ready for the impact of either hitting the bridge, or hitting the man.
Darius grunted in surprise when the guard not only took his punch head on, but when he also grabbed ahold of his arm and locked it in place. Once the guard started swinging his club, Darius knew that he was going to get hit by it. At least he could prevent his arm from getting broken. When the club was close enough, Darius pulled himself closer to the man. Pain flared up his shoulder as the club struck it. It was nowhere near as bad as it could have been. He grinned at the guard.
"My turn."
Darius grabbed the man and pulled him backwards to knock him of balance. Then he pushed forward and, using some enhanced strength, picked the man up, took three quick steps forward and slammed the man into the ground. He kneeled on the man's neck. Not enough to choke him, but enough to possibly pacify him. "This is not a battlefield, and we are not from two different armies, so I am offering you a choice; Yield. If you do not, then I will make it quick."
The hairs on the back of his neck alerted him of someone behind him. He turned his head around to see the pale guard that had attacked Meirin approaching him. He started to draw his sword, but he paused when Alaira passed through the pale man's shoulder in a run towards the Psychomancer. He also noticed another pale gaurd writhing on the ground with that stuffed bear attached to his face. The one approaching him must have been a mind trick the Psychomancer made. Darius turned back to the guard on the ground and awaited the man's answer.
Darius looked at the robed man as he denied being a Psychomancer and insisted that he was a Demonmancer. Whatever kind of magic the man had, he was a mage, and made him a priority target. Ssarak seemed certain that the man was a Psychomancer, and the dragon man had no reason to lie, so Darius believed him.
The remaining guardsmen attacked as soon as the mage stopped speaking. Darius was ready. As soon as he saw movement from the guards he started running for the robed man. As he dodged the knife that was thrown at him, he heard something screech from his right side. He chanced a look and saw that a demon had appeared from out of nowhere and it was heading for him. He stopped his charge and rolled out of the way of the creature's attack. He gritted his teeth in anger as he watched the demon and the guardsman.
These two were preventing him from getting to the mage. Focusing his anger, he created a ball of air in his hand. He waited for the demon to attack before he threw the condensed ball of air into the ground in front of the guard. The ball of air blew up and sent dirt and debris into the air. The moment the ball detonated, Darius dodged the demon's attack and ran at the guard he potentially temporarily blinded and thew a vicious punch at the man.
Previous Magic training: Has no clue he has mageblood.
Race: Yarosmerian
Standing at 6’5”, Darius is a large man with broad shoulders. His dark skin is marred by many scars from battles he has had. The largest being a scar that extends from his right shoulder down to his left hip. He has a broad nose that has been noticeably broken and left unprepared several times. His eyes are brown, and he has short black hair.
Short Bio: Darius was born in Porti, the Market centre of Shanna. He had a normal childhood, playing with friends in the streets. When he was old enough, he joined the army. He started out as a grunt, which he loathed to no extent. Being told what to do was something that Darius did not like at all, and it had caused some fights when he didn’t like what he was being told to do. Quickly, though, his fights were quickly quelled by his superiors. The Shannian army had some rather harsh punishments for violent behaviour against other fellow soldiers. While it did stop Darius from fighting, it didn't stop him from hating being told what to do in the way his superiors did.
Years passed, and Darius moved up in the ranks, despite his earlier fights against the people that told him what to do. He earned some extra money in some pit fights when times were slow. Had had won some battles, and lost some, and he had gained a multitude of scars from his battles. He had made friends and enemies. One day, he was picked as part of the group that would go up to a mage college that he had never heard of and protect the people that represented Shanna.
Good Attributes: Strong, proficient sword fighter and hand-to-hand combatant. If anything, Darius is a good soldier, and he works well with others if he has to, and if he needs to, he can lead people quite well. He's patient when teaching others about sword fighting and hand-to-hand fighting.
Bad Attributes: Arrogant, bigoted, and loud. He has a short temper, and he hates being talked down to. If he doesn't have to work with someone out of necessity, he won't. Respect is a hard thing to get from Darius, and very few people have earned it.
Appearance: Leith was born with albinism, so his skin is about as white as it can get. His eyes are a very light blue, and he has no hair. There is a scar that runs horizontally across his right cheek to almost his ear. He stands at 6 feet tall and is very skinny. He usually wears dark green pants and a hooded cloak of the same colour. The cloak has a clasp on it, and it was given to him as a gift. There is a silver ring on his left index finger and he currently has a gauntlet fused to his right hand that goes up to his elbow. It is roughly five times the size of his left hand.
Short Bio: Leith did not have a nice childhood. the other children were afraid of him. They had heard stories of vampires and what they looked like, and in their minds, Leith was a vampire. He had learned quickly that fear could turn to violence, and had gone home with bruises, and one time, a black eye.
As he got older, the fear disappeared, and he made some friends. He discovered his ability to control water, and started to try and figure out what he could do with it.
When he was twenty, Leith Heard about Twilight College and decided to go there and get a better grasp on his hydromancy. He figured it wouldn’t take that long. A few weeks at most.
He got there five years later.
After a few days of travelling, he encountered two men who immediately apprehended him and tried to kill him because they’d "be doing Eania a favour. The only good vampire is a dead one, right?”
Leith tried to explain that he wasn’t a vampire, and that the men were making a mistake, but they wouldn’t listen. The men took him into a small clearing off the road. He stumbled and fell into puddle of purple liquid, which disappeared almost as quickly as he landed in it. His head was buzzing when the men picked him up, tied him to a stake and one of the men went to set him on fire. In his panic, the buzzing increased, and Leith felt water nearby and pulled at it. He was splashed by something warm and lost consciousness.
He was found by a herbalist who was restocking his inventory. When Leith woke up, he felt like he needed to repay the old man, and decided to become his apprentice. The buzzing in his head didn't go away, and his hair started falling out days later.
Near the end of Leith’s fourth year of being an apprentice, the old man got sick, and quickly died. After burying him, Leith stayed at the little hut in the forest that they lived for a few more weeks, and then started out for the Twilight College for a second time. Fortunately, the second time was uneventful, and he arrived the day they were accepting a bunch of new mages. And who knows, maybe somebody there might know what's making his head buzz.
Good Attributes: Very knowledgable. He has a love of learning and can learn more quickly than other people would. He is a very kind person, and will try to help people when he can. After working with the herbalist for four years, Leith knows quite a bit about Earnia plant-life and can usually tell which ones are harmful, and which ones are helpful. He has a good sense of humour, and he doesn't let what other people say to him bother him.
Bad Attributes: He never was a strong person, but after his encounter with the men, he was weakened physically, and when he feels that his weakness stopped him from helping someone, he can get very depressed. There is a constant buzzing noise in his head that started when he was almost killed, and it can get to the point where it is distracting. Sometimes the buzzing gives him insomnia. He also trusts people too easily. He doesn't like to let other people know if he has a problem because he doesn't like to bother people with his issues.
Secret Word: Fade... wait a second. Rebirth
Yellow Ring Name: Illuminating Ring Description:
Type: Non-Combative/Combative Range: Individual to up to five meters Duration: Depends on the mode Other information: This ring, unlike the other two, has three different uses depending on how many taps you give the gem. One tap actives the first mode called Search, two taps active the second called Illumination and three taps actives the final mode called Flash.
Search mode is just as it sounds where the ring casts a soft, nightlight like glow to locate hidden items. The ring will flicker off and on when something is close by that the user is focusing on finding. When hot, the flickers increase rapidly to give a general and foot by foot area it is located within. However, when cold the blinking will cease into a steady, faint light much like a firefly would cast making it useless for a light source.
Illumination creates a light strength much like a campfire, lighting up several meters from the source. It is useful to see in most dark caves not affected by magic or unnatural reasons. Though unlike Electromancers who can increase and alter their light source, the ring is set at one level only at all times making it possible to be seen by others easily.
Flash is a sudden, blinding light that can affect both ally and foe alike if the user isn’t careful. When tapped, it makes a small hum for a warning to the user to protect their eyes then pops, shrouding everything within the scene in bright, white light. This will stun enemies, or allies, for a brief time unless they are knocked out of it prematurely by outside influences.
Darius raised an eyebrow when Alaira dropped to the ground grabbing at her head. Something happened to her, but nothing happened to anyone else. Maybe the Psychomancer that Ssarak mentioned had done something to cause the half-elf pain. Either way, it stopped the situation from getting worse. The man in the robe began negotiating a fee for attacking the guardsmen. Darius didn't care what they were talking about. He was watching the guardsmen just in case one of them decided to attack.
However yet again it was Alaira that attacked first. She ran at one of the guardsmen and tackled him to the ground. Her arms started crackling with energy. If it was anything like last time, the man was either dead or going to be very soon. With sigh, Darius ran over to Alaira, and after taking a few deep breaths, he pulled her off of the man with enough force to send her sliding back a few feet. He then looked at the guardsmen and put his hand on the hilt of his sword.
"I do not believe that negotiations are an option anymore. Am I correct? And I will not allow you to take anything from the caravan. It is our job to ensure it arrives at Hysteria intact." Darius was ready. The prospect of a fight after having gone so long without one was an exciting one.
