The Old Man's Tale (Spam-Fic)

I haven't written in a very long time, so I hope this isn't a bomb. Let me know of your opinions and feel free to PM me with advice and character ideas. I'm very open. :) Just don't make your criticisms harsh. Telling me what I can do better is one thing. Telling me that I suck is another. In any case, let's have a go.

I haven't fully decided on if I want to stick with Google Docs or use hiders. Since this introduction is short, I'm going to keep it here. But please, tell me what you would prefer. I'm in a writing mood, so an update may actually be up later.

Introduction

“Gran-pop, can you tell me a story?” A young boy sat up in his bed, pulling the blankets up to his chin. He was no more than six, his brown eyes shining bright thanks to the glow of the bedside lamp. His dark hair was ruffled from a day of play. “Daddy told me that you can tell the best stories!”

“Oh, he did, eh?” The old man smiled. He was reaching the last of his days, but the young spirit of his grandson filled him with a life he thought he would never lose. His own dark hair had fallen away to reveal a head that was now covered in liver spots. Green eyes that had once seen glory now nothing. He reached a withered hand out to the boy who took it without hesitation.

“Please, Gran-Pop! I would love it more than anything!” The old man could feel the boy squirm in his bed. Such a happy child, he was. “I want to hear about Jorick the Great and Hank the Brave! Please tell me. I promise I won’t repeat them! I swear.”

The old man felt sadness stir within him when he heard the names. It had been many years ago, but the pain was still there. He closed his unseeing eyes for only a moment, settling the grief within him. When he opened them again, his smile returned.

“Are you sure you want to hear such a story, Awson? You are very young.”

“I’m almost seven!”

The squeak of Awson’s small voice sent the old man into laughter. “Alright, but don’t tell your granny. Promise?”

“Promise.”

And so the old man began his tale…
