Even though the three races are very similar, their genetic structure is quite different, and as such, conception of hybrids is impossible. Well, there's another big reason, but that would a very big spoilerino.
(Just play as a pure elf I guess.)
Interracial relationships exist, it's just no child can be conceived from them. Those couples usually resort to adoption.
