I think that could work if it the plot doesn't completely narrow in one a select group and it could possibly to have a several minor-major plot-lines going at the same time.

Also, just as note, but considering how much raw magic Fae have, the first time he was near more than 2, Alexander passed out. Just a little note.
Where I live, it is abnormal if you haven't had at least: two cats, two dogs, and one of two other species of animals as pets.
Alexander might of been happy with the half-answer that the other person gave, until the other guy read his mind. Almost immediately a sound of warning flaired in his mind that meant someone was rummaging through his mind. And when he looked at the stranger he was glowing purple, which typical meant the mind, most notably insorercy. It was quite easy to put two and two together to come up with the fact that guy read his mind.

So he ran after him, "Oh so that is what this is about, you must be one of those magistrava who pushed themselves to hard and had a magical black-lash. I know my basics of magic. But I don't have to worry about that. I am sycher. The worst that will happen to me is a pretty bad head-ache or I will black-out. What I do have to worry about is people intruding on my brain. I am not sure what you looked at, but it generally isn't nice to read people's mind before you even introduce yourself" he smarted off.
Well, Jedly ditched my character so I don't know what to post
Alexander who lost stumbled into a group that looked to be taking the same course as himself and were about the same age as himself. He then noticed a strange man with a magic bird who was unfamiliar with, though he was told it was a magical, healing bird who can predict if you get well or not. Interesting. The man appeared to be calm, patient and willing to take to the other kids, though Alexander said quite merely out of a lack of things to say. However as soon as the eye-patch was brought up, he panic'ed and ran off.

Alexander decided to follow him, which was rather easy considering the guy appeared have never ran a day in his live whereas for Alexander running and jogging were a daily activity. As he started, Alexander shouted out towards the guy, "Hey, guy with the Caladrius, where are you going?" He have noticed when was talking early, just before he left he got a flash of grey and yellow together. Grey tending to mean ambiguous, or morally grey while yellow often meaning deception, lies, or something to that effect, so together they tended to mean a half-truth or half-truths. "I know you're hiding something." he said.
Also, just to note, your character probably would notice that my character's thoughts would be very poorly protected but still protected.
I mean in raw-magic. How big would the perceived difference in there magic be.
I am now confused about what is actually happening in the school, I thought that this was like an open house and/or assembly before school actually started.
I don't think open world RPs in gerenal have are doom to fail, it just needs a catalyst to happen with an enclosed space and then something to keep the characters interacting. Also, if you have not noticed, I like to play very manipulative backstabbers who mess with peoples minds. Really, I don't mind Fay when they Chaotic Good or Chaotic Neutral, I have just been waiting an RP with Chaotic Evil ones because they are fun : D
Also, if you don't want to just rehash oh waiter completely, there is always Fae/Changelings. Like the twist your mind into mush and make humans your pets kind of Fae. I been looking for an RP like that a while, and it could pretty easily incorporate other supernatural into it.

Edit, for those who don't know what I am saying by changelings, in this case, I mean a person physically morphed by Fae magic, normally indefinitely.
