Darkening every second it seemed, Matias's eyes moved between Bane and Midnight before he decided to look down at the floor. The distant yelling filled the silence that he could have easily done but chose not to. He sighed yet again, his shoulders heaving visibly.

"Well, if that's what he wants to do..."

More silence, followed by more yelling filling it.

"Think we should go down there and tell Iris to calm down some."
Matias's titular glare found itself forming onto his mug again, accentuating his now fire-lit eyes. In stark contrast to a few moments ago, he slammed his boot treads onto the floorboards as he hopped off the window sill. All in all, he didn't look too happy.

"And why should he be putting up with this? Tell me what exactly he gets out of being there? 'Oh, he's a detective.' And? Can't he go private? When have pigs ever helped us? Ever? You said it yourself; they don't like mystics."

He would have went off more if it wasn't for the shuffling next to him. Seeing Midnight stir was enough to calm him down some. Still, the sigh that followed was one fueled by frustration.

"Look, all I'm saying is that he can't let himself get pushed around like that just to make our jobs slightly easier, however it does it."
Matias tried his hardest to ignore the commotion behind him as he stepped into the room. It seemed acting so joyous out of nowhere wasn't the best course of action, but at least he didn't have to deal with any of that. His stride shortened as he passed by Midnight's bed, careful not to make any noise as he went over to his previous perch by the window. It seemed like he would be able to watch the sun go down without issue.

But then the c-word came out of Bane's mouth.

"You guys know about that?" he asked, turning his head to Bane. "Well, yeah, he did. There were two of em. Don't see why he can't defend himself honestly... or just stop being a pig."
Matias had to admit that he hadn't paid much attention to any changes in Dante's face, much less the bruise that had grown on it. It was astounding that he missed it, really; it was rather huge and just starting to glow purple. He took a moment to ponder, then suddenly tapped his foot.

"You should've been there," he began, "it was so funny. Idiot tripped on the stairs and hit his chin right on the hand rail. Flopped over like a damn fish!"

A hard belly laugh erupted, so loud that it made Matias shut his eyes. He sounded like a pig crossed with a donkey that was gasping for air. It was thankfully short, only about five seconds in length.

"Ah... So funny."

He shot a wink at Dante before slapping his back playfully.

"Anyway... Is the boss asleep or something? Kinda wanna check on her."
Matias blinked rapidly and let out a soft yet audible whistle. Getting killed by authorities would not be exactly pleasant for him, much less in front of a crowd of people. Nobody in this room deserved such a date either, in his opinion. Dante, for example, probably deserved a smack atop the head at most. Not that. Or being starved in solitary confinement.

Good lord, he though to himself.

"Appreciate you staying Iris," he said, "I'll stay as long as I have to, but I'm not much of a medic myself. Guess that's a plan. Hopefully the boss heals quickly. By the way..."

He looked towards Dante.

"... Here."

From his pocket, he pulled the two notes, then he handed them to Dante.

"You can get them checked whatever. And if you see anything suspicious in my house..."

He smacked his hands together.

"... kill it."
Low-key interested in the isekai, though Id like to see what worlds you have in mind for it 🤔
Matias returned the response with a nod of his own.

"I still don't understand that," he said, "Like, I think she tried to explain it to me, but I just... I don't get the point of a double life like that, you know?"

He felt the lift do its namesake under his feet, carrying the two to the upper level. He stepped out as the doors slid open for his convenience, following Dante to the bedroom. His eyes widened when he saw the pair standing in the hallway; his brain could only assume the worst, but his eyes proved it wrong as he looked past their shoulders.

"So," Matias began, "I told Dante I'll be staying here til the boss heals fully. It's on you guys whether you wanna stay here too or not. Either way, Dante's looking over my place tonight. Feel free to join him."

He shuffled lightly in place.

"We also gotta figure out what's going on with her double life, but I say we wait til she heals before we interrogate her. Doubt she needs that stress right now."
Matias blinked rapidly, cocking his head forwards.

"'Answers'? About what...?"

It seemed like he was waiting for an answer himself, but the pause in his speech was just so he could rise from his seat. His legs popped and snapped as he stretched them out, making the man sigh heavenly.

"I think I have to go upstairs anyway. Gotta let her know what the plan is..."

He stretched even as he walked towards the lift, grunting as he snapped the bubbles out of his spine.
Matias folded his arms and looked down at the ground, his eyes meeting both of their feet. He bit his lip for a moment.

"I mean... If she needs someone to stay with her, I guess I don't mind volunteering. And, well, I'm a kickboxer, trained and all. So if that stupid moth shows up–"

He paused, catching his tongue slip late but successfully. His arms unfolded so he could rub his brow.

"Anyway... I'll stay. But I, like, low-key want someone to watch over my place for as long as I'm here, just in case. Maybe even catch the creep sneaking in and out of there. That'd be a bonus."
