"I guess so." I smirked, walking down the path. "Do you remember which one is ours once we reach the dorms?" I asked. "I think I do, but I'm not one hundred percent sure." I reached my hands towards my backpack and stuffed the icepack inside. It was getting too cold to hold.
"We could! Buuuut." I looked over at him. "What if they're going to get food or work out or something? Then we'll be completely out of luck." I stopped for a moment. "Ooo! I know what to do." I cleared my throat and cupped my hands around my mouth as if they were a megaphone.
"Hey!" I shouted as loud as I could. My voice echoed off of the buildings. The people in front of us hesitated before they stopped. "Where are the dorms!?" I yelled again, this time louder so they could actually make out what I was saying.
"What!?" One of them yelled back. I could see him look to one of his friends, probably asking what I'd just said.
"Where. Are. The. Dorms!?" I yelled even louder than before. I could see a long, skinny arm pointing to our left.
"That way!" They shouted back. Before I could say thank you, they waved a hand to us and walked off.
"To be honest, I'm just wingin' it. I think it's that way." I pointed to a few buildings. "Most of the buildings look the same here. But I think it's that way." I said with a not-so-sure tone. "We should probably ask, huh? Wouldn't want to get lost around here. Especially since we're both kind of tired."
I smiled softly up at him. "Yeah, just that one bruise. I'm alright." I opened the door for Sam and I, stepping outside and continuing on. "It sure is big though. It doesn't really hurt unless I touch it or put pressure on it." I added. "Are you going to be alright? You can use this ice thing if you want." I glanced at him then down at the ground, kicking a small pebble as we walked.
"Oh ok, good!" I said with a smile before hopping out of my seat. "I can't wait to get back to the room and shower and stuff. I'm tired." Even though it was still fairly early in the morning, I just wanted to lie down and relax. Yesterday had been a rough day and I was still getting over it. I ran a hand through my hair and slowly began to walk, waiting on Sam to follow me. "What did Glenda say?" I asked. "Is she sure you don't have any broken bones?"
"Gotcha'." I smiled at Glenda and took a seat in a dark blue chair. My hands were getting cold holding onto the ice pack. I sat back in my seat, getting comfortable like Glenda said and placed the icepack on my ribs. I hated to admit it but the icepack felt like a big relief. I hoped it would heal me up soon. In the mean time, I was to wait on Sam so we could go.
After walking for another minute, we entered a light blue and white room with glass cabinets full of almost anything the medics would need. Some were filled with syringes, medicines, creams, and anything else you could think of. In the far right corner of the room were three big metal refrigerators. Glenda walked over to the one of the middle, opening it to reveal frozen bags of blood.
"Oops, wrong one." Glenda laughed to herself and moves to the refrigerator to the left. Opening it, she picked up a big blue plastic ice pack and shut the refrigerator door. "See this?" She began. "It's a gel icepack. You can heat it up or freeze as many times as you want. But be careful. I don't want you getting frost bite. So when you apply it to your bruises, wrap it in a washcloth. In about a week you should be feeling fine." Glenda finished as she walked over to me, placing the pack in my hand.
"Thank you, ma'am." I nodded at her and she smiled. "I appreciate it."
"You're welcome, honey. Now let's go get your friend his x-ray so you can go about your day." She led the way out and back down the hall where we were going to meet back up with Sam.
I jumped when Glenda spoke to me. I was in my own little world full of thoughts when she grabbed my attention. I nodded and followed her through the door and down the hall.
"So where we goin'?" I asked, tilting my head to look at her.
"We have to go and get your icepack." She replied with a smile. "It's in the freezer with anything else I might want to send you back to the dorms with."
"I might need more stuff?" I asked. Glenda just shrugged, continuing on down the hall.
Even though I'd walked away, I still listened in on what Glenda was telling Sam. From what I heard, he'd escaped having broken bones. That was good. Just serious bruising. From the way he looked Sam was very lucky. With a quiet sigh of relief, I continued to wait until they were done. All I needed was my ice pack and I could go. But I'd probably stick around to help Sam out if he needed it.
I glanced over at Sam's bruised and cut skin and frowned. "I'll just...wait over there. I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable or anything" I hesitantly slid off of the bed to give them some privacy. I wasn't sure if he minded me seeing him bruised up like that.
