I nodded, "Ok, that sounds good. I'm not wearing a watch, but we can just estimate how long it takes us. Shouldn't be too long, I hope." I looked Sam in the eyes and flashed him a smile. "Plus, tomorrow morning we'll probably be jogging or running here. So it should be fairly quick." I shrugged, taking the first few steps and leading us back towards our cabin.
I scoffed, running a hand down the side of my face "You ain't lyin'. Let's do this." I stood up, dusting my pants off and then my hands. "Need some help?" I asked, taking a few steps forward and lending Sam my hand.
"A breakfast taco would be pretty great right about now." I smiled. "Yeah, we could ask the cooks. Think they'll let us? They might question us. We're gonna need a good lie. But I'm pretty sure I can do that." I leaned back on my hands and looked up at the sky. It was a gloomy pale blue. "We're gonna need a lot of food. Enough to last us a while. We have no clue how long we're gonna be stuck out there." I nodded towards the fence.
I laughed at his last comment. "Oh yeah? Maybe she wouldda known a easier way outta here too." I placed my hands on my hips and smirked. "Welp! Now that we've got this part figured out, what's next?" I plopped down on the ground, crossing my legs and placing my hands in my lap. I figured we could sit here for a few more minutes until he was ready to leave.
"Well." I popped up. "It's nothin' special." My face was very unimpressed. "We've gotta crawl through." I ducked back down, searching for the escape route and crawling halfway through. "Lots of trees! It's a big ol' forest." I called out. "And lots of dirt and grass and bushes. Lots of places to hide too. I can see why people come back here..." I trailed off. "Not very romantic though. Kind of dirty actually." I laughed. "But none the less, it's an escape outta here." I scooted backwards until I was back in the bush.
"It should work. I think it will." I popped back up again to see Sam sitting on the ground. He looked tired and like he was fighting the pain. We needed to go back soon so he could lie down and relax his muscles. He needed to get a good rest before we left out tomorrow.
"Shit. I forgot about that. Are you ok? You should sit down and relax." Concern laced my words. "We can chill here for a minute if you want." I eyed Sam up and down, as he clutched his chest. I'd hate for something else to happen to him. As I waited on an answer, I crouched down and began searching through the bush in hopes to find this legendary escape hole. After about a minute, I'd found it. It wasn't big that big. But it was big enough for us to crawl through and escape into the woods. "Found it."
"Great! Time to check it out. I hope those guards you spoke to were telling the truth." I walked behind Sam as we neared the bush. Once we reached it, I paused, looking up at Sam then the bush. "You should do the honors of moving those branches out of the way... After all, this was your idea. Escaping through the fence." I laughed.
"Oh sweet. Now we just gotta find it." I perked up a bit since we'd reached our destination. "You see it yet?" I asked, just seconds later as I followed behind Sam while he searched. I knew he'd just started but I was very impatient. "Is it big?" I snickered. "The escape hole, I mean."
"Good." I sighed out as I ran a hand through my hair. This would be a bit of a far walk from our cabin. Especially with a possible group of people with us. We'd have to be extra careful not to get caught.
For the rest of our walk, a comfortable silence fell between us. There was nothing but the cool breeze and the sounds of our footsteps. Not too far from us, I saw an old rusty cabin. "Is that it?" I asked.
"Mhmm." I nodded. "I really want this to work. I think it will though." I gave him a small smile. "After we get back to the cabin, I want to figure out how we're going to get food and all the other supplies. I don't wanna go hungry out there." I took a deep breath. Just thinking about all of this was stressful. We'd only been awake for about an hour and a half but it felt like forever. "Are we close to that escape place?" I asked quietly.
