Hayate took the bandaged sword. A bit cautious as he wasn't sure what to expect from it. He was half expecting that his chakra would be leeched from him or that the strange weapon would shiver, as he had witnessed a lot of times when he had seen Kiyomi with it. But nothing happened. It didn't shiver or started to leech any chakra. Kiyomi looked in front, seeing the back of Team 7. They said they were ready. Raising her right hand, she would cover the lower part of her face with her facemask, the same as Hayate. It was after a mission and they weren't sure what they would encounter. A kind of habit of team 2, so to say. ''Lets start moving then. Calm and cautious.'' Kiyomi instructed, hoping Kensuke would keep order in his team. Signalling with a hand signal to Hayate, they would keep a distance between them and Team 7.
Kensuke pondered for a moment, indecisive wether or not he should activate the camouflage jutsu already, and decided against it. He'd rather have an enemy ambush him than have Kiyomi blast him full of holes by accident. "Let's go." He said on a strangely casual tone, and began walking forwards into the deep. Once they had entered the dark complex' second room, light began fading real quick, upon which Kensuke ordered the entire formation to pause. Staring into the darkness infront of him, in which even his eyes had trouble identifying their surroundings, he checked his watch untill 15 minutes had passed, enough time to have anyone's eyes adapt to the darkness enough to see smaller details in the already sparse light.
Ezuri followed Kensuke sensei closely, and kept notice of his surroundings. He eyes still looking forwards, his head straight. He still could see all his teammates an no-one was in his byakugan's blind spot. He was a bit uneasy about the bunker, because he could not see inside. As soon as they entered Ezuri scanned the room they were in... nothing. the light faded and everybody halted. Ezuri was not sure why untill he realised he was the only one that could see as the rest of them needed time for their eyes to adjust to the darkness. He looked around "No signs of life as far as I can see, I feel a bit 'blind' though, not being able to 'see' through walls" he whispered.
Shisen stayed close to Arashi, even before entering she could tell it would be hard to see much, she continued concentrating her chakra to her nose using that as guide. Following Ezuri but not going very fast either as she would not take a step if she did not feel Arashi brushing up against her, taking a quiet deep breath she continued to follow them. Her eyes watering from the smell of decaying flesh, she tried to shake what was bothering her off but nothing to seemed to work. " I dont like this..." Shisen said once more, quietly though. She was still having a hard time getting her eyes to adjust and kept a shaky hand on Arashis back.
Calmly walking, Kiyomi had noticed the scent of decaying flesh too. Her sense of smell wasn't that great as Shisen, but it was without mistake flesh that was starting to rot. But even so, Kiyomi focused more on the fact that they were walking into unknown ground. With Kensuke ordering his formation to stop, Kiyomi wondered as both she and Hayate could see. It was thus darker there, which made sense. ''Stick close to me, Hayate.'' Kiyomi whispered, letting it be known through the earphone communicator. Even though she would look or see it, Hayate nodded as he placed his right hand at the hilt of the sentient sword that was now at his back. It felt strange, but yet comforting to know he had a fearsome weapon at his disposal. While the group waited, Kiyomi decided to use something that would give her a bit of advantage. Making the Tiger handsignal, she focused on the chakra of Mata. From her research, she had learned that cats had better eyes in the dark. It took only two minutes, but with the chakra of the Nibi flowing through her system, Kiyomi knew that she would be easier to sense. Though having her manners to use that to her advantage, she would for now keep it at a low maintainance. ''Lets keep on going. I will make a light later.'' Kiyomi ordered, transferring her instruction to Team 7 as well.
"Let's get moving." He said, checking the next door, which seemed to be welded tight. Ordering his squad to stop and to check their surroundings with two simple handsigns he coated his hand in air nature chakra and started cutting through the door with ease. Once an opening was there, he stared into the next room, and after a short moment crawled through the opening in the door. He had the chance to crawl through carefully to avoid any lethal traps, or he had the choice to leap through and avoid any potential ambush. So far there had been no sign of an ambush or much rather, any living being yet, and with the additional knowledge he had over the genin, the possibility of lethal traps was more than real. Once inside he scanned the entire room with his eyes before jumping on the ceiling with the wall-walking technique and traversed the room like that to avoid setting off traps. The only traps that would detect him now were decent chakra-detection traps, but those were rather rare in a complex like this, especially if it was intended to be entered by living creatures. Chakra signature traps would go off the moment they'd see anyone, while normal traps could be memorized by the garrison to avoid constantly.
Ezuri followed Kensuke through the room and watched closely as he cut through the door that would lead them to the next room. As soon as the hole was compleet Ezuri let his byakugab scour the room quickly. No chakra signals to be seen. After Kensuke took the ceiling Ezuri scanned the room more thourougly for any traps. There were some pressure plates but nothing that could not be avoided. He turned around looking at shisen. "Can Arashi use the wall-walking technique?" because if not he had to lead Arashi and Shisen over the floor avoiding the traps, if the ninken could then he would also take the ceiling with his sensei and the rest.
Watching as Ezuri scanned the room for traps, she concentrated on the scents and found nothing except the scent from before increased in strength. "Arashi.. stay close..." Shisen murmured, also using the Wall Walking Technique as Arashi followed suit. Both really uncertain of the situation and somewhat unwilling to continue on. "I do not smell anything... Except for the decaying flesh that is getting stronger..." she said, her eyes still watering but at least now her eyes were slightly more adjusted than they were a few minutes ago.
Keeping their distance, Kiyomi heard over the earphone communicators that Team 7 was making more sound than they needed. At least, in her opinion. Flexing her fingers of her right hand, Kiyomi briefly looked over her shoulder. The dark almost didn't let her see him, but she could sense Hayate being close. Noticing that Team 7 was moving further, Kiyomi decided to think about how she could shed some light. Not that she had a problem with the dark, but it would serve better for those who weren't able to adjust to the dark. ''Ground.'' With that said, Kiyomi would open her left hand as some lightning started to gather at the palm of her hand. She didn't had to look over her shoulder as Hayate wasn't there anymore. With the lightning shedding some light, Kiyomi could see the surroundings around her a lot better. Walking to the destroyed door, she noticed it was of steel. Not that she was impressed or surprised that Kensuke had been able to destroy it, she expected nothing less from him, but it made her wonder. Keeping a thought to herself, she would calmly walk over the ground, cautious for traps. But with the light and her senses, she couldn't detect any traps. Besides, this was an abandoned place. It would be too obvious if it wouldn't be abandoned if there would be traps laying in wait just after the first door.
Dropping on the floor again he put his attention on the next door. This one was yet another steel example, but it wasn't welded thight, but still locked. He was about to cut it open when he stopped halfway turning his hand into a dagger. Pushing and pulling the door again he heard the metal lock make some noise as it resisted his attempts to open the door, but from two places on the door, and one of both sounds didn't sound like metal meeting metal. Either it was a trap, or some random object got stuck against the door in the illustrious history of this steel port. Cutting out the section around the place where the second noise came from just to be sure, not that it took him much chakra anyways, he then cut through the lock and opened the door, to find a heavy wooden chair having fallen against the door. Well, so much for his precautions. Checking the room for traps, not intending to let the poor and forgotten piece of furniture put him off guard, he then jumped to the ceiling again. The interior of the rooms surprised him a bit, and as the rest of Team 7 entered he noticed that they were all making sour faces because of the rather disgusting smell of rotten flesh floating around. They hadn't been on a few days-old battlefield yet, he guessed.
When the door was breached by Kensuke, a very strange scent would appear from the room they would enter. This was more than just decaying flesh, that was left to rotten. It had a mixture of something very foul and sour. Though with the new smell, no sound came from the darkness that waited both teams ahead. Yet one could say that this was a warning that something was there, waiting in the dark.
Ezuri was the first to enter the room after Kensuke. He noticed that his sensei had more touble opening this door than the previous. The genin did jump a little at the sound of the chair hitting the ground. His eyes peeled at the room ahead he could still sense no chakra signatures... damn sealed off walls. Ezuri closed his nose with his left hand and followed his sensei to the ceiling while checking the room for irregularities. He saw some bones in the corner. A shiver went down his spine, but there were no traps in this room. Silently he let the rest know it was clear to traverse over the ground.
Her nose wrinkled as another scent mingled with the always present scent of decaying flesh, this one was worse and she had to cover her mouth to keep from coughing loudly. Arashi was also trying to rid herself of the scent, gritting her teeth she followed Ezuri onto the ceiling of the new room, the further she went, the stronger the new scent became. "There is a new scent..." Shisen said, into the ear communicator. Arashi seemed to be having a difficult time on the ceiling but Shisen kept the silent order to stay on the ceiling anyways, just in case.
Kiyomi calmly walked forwards. She heard the sound of the second door being ''opened'' by Kensuke. But she wasn't worrying. So far Hayate hadn't came out of his underground spot, so that meant that there was nothing new nearby. Walking a bit faster, she would enter the new room as well. The lightning in her left hand lighten up the room and shed some light on the pile of bones in the corner. Kiyomi glanced at it for a moment. But it wasn't anything interesting. Continue to walk behind team 7, Kiyomi would dismiss the new scent. Even if it reeked of danger or anything sinister, she wouldn't turn around and run away just because of some scent.
Seeing the genin prepare themselves for the next room, he now once more scanned the room ahead of them for any person, or rather anything, with any sort of killing intent. Immediately he sensed a few spiders that were out there to ambush insects and suck them dry, and a single lonely mosquito that was out for Kensuke's hide, but nothing really bad was waiting for them in the next room. Nothing that wanted to kill them anyways. The mosquito piqued his interested however. Its presence here meant there was another way out, near water, where this beast came from. Unless it had been feeding on stuff inside this complex, something Kensuke decided not to think about. Checking the next metal door, which seemed to be the thing here, metal doors, he concluded it was just a metal door. Great job Einstein. Cutting through the lock he entered the next room, and immediately saw a manhole in the floor, along with the usual door on one end of the room. No traps were lying around to be seen, so he climbed the ceiling and checked both. The door seemed to be just another regular door, while the manhole had a metal ladder that led a few stories down at least, but it was too dark to see well. They had something with concrete and metal when making this, that's for sure.
Even now that they did not encounter anything interesting or dangerous in the previous rooms, Ezuri kept on guard and decided not to let his attention slip. full focus was required here. He scanned the next room for chakra signals and traps like he did with the previous rooms but nothing was to be seen here as well. He slowly and silently walked up to the manhole and peered down in it. He gasped, it was deep, real deep... being only able to see the small round shape of the manhole on the ground he did not sense anyhting, but that didnt mean nothing was down there. after checking that he took the ceiling and waited for the rest to enter the room.
As Kensuke-Sensei openned the next door, she was able to scent something that she thought was water but something else mixed with it, although that was as much as she could tell at this point. Noticing that the other scent besides the decaying flesh was also worsening as they continued to go on. It also appeared to coming from every direction as it increased in strength. Shisen said nothing though, at this point, anyone would be able to detect the horrible smell. Getting to the ceiling after waiting a second to give Arashi a moment to rest before having to continue, they both followed their team mates and stayed silent with no need to say anything.
Still calmly walking behind Team 7, with the pre-set distance, Kiyomi was wondering why they were all that cautious. She didn't bother by sticking herself to the ceiling or anything that would scream that they were trying to cover themselves for anything that would jump at them. Flexing her fingers of her left hand, she would close the distance with Team 7. Without needing to say it, Hayate appeared out of the ground behind her, doing his best to keep aware of the surroundings as Kiyomi walked to where Team 7 was. Before she spoke, she briefly eyed the manhole. ''Seems there are two ways now.'' Stating the obvious, her tone was quite stern and soft. ''I and Hayate will take the route down. Team 7, will continue forward.'' Kiyomi said, this time her eyes sought for Kensuke's. Already Kiyomi was suspecting he would argue or try to talk her out of it. But she had her own reasons for the split up and why they should continue forward while she and Hayate would go down.
Staring Kiyomi down he tried finding out why she made that decision. He didn't like this change of plans at all, but there was not really much he could do about it now. Turning around he sent his team a strict glare before inspecting the door again. "You heard her. Keep your eyes peeled, we won't have anyone watching our backs anymore." He said, and then sank on one knee and started rummaging in his backpack, throwing Kiyomi a small but sturdy package. "Fire these when you need help." He knew that the flares wouldn't really reach him, but it would make quite some noise in the confined space and more importantly, create smoke and reflections of light on the walls they might notice. That aside, if any of them would encounter anything bad, they had the earphones and he would probably sense any large form of killing intent even that far down. "Good call Kiyomi. I don't really see Arashi climbing down that manhole."
Opening the door he stumbled on a wall of stench that even made his eyes water, before pushing on. Once more he inspected the room and jumped for the ceiling as he saw nor noticed anything living in there, and set his earphones on channel C so only Kiyomi could hear him. "Why?" He whispered, expecting a decent explanation of her plans and/or reasons. He knew Kiyomi and expected no less than a convincing argumentation, but knew that the girl had the urge to make rash decisions sometimes.
Ezuri followed Kensuke without hesitation. Although he felt a little bad for leaving Hayate, and especially Kiyomi, behind. But he also know Kiyomi-sensei and Hayate-senpai could take care of themselves really well. Now that they didn't have anyone covering their back he offered to take the place at the end of the line and let Shisen and Arashi go in front of him as he, with his byakugan, could sense danger coming from behind more easily than them. He hoped Kensuke would be able to detect as much as he did, as he was no longer there to scan the room for traps or chakra signatures immediately after Kensuke opened a door.
Shisen allowed Ezuri to fall back behind them even as low growl escaped Arashis throat, she did not like this at all. But Shisen knew it was for the better and so she did not say anything, the scents kept getting stronger even though they had stopped moving. Moving herself behind Arashi, she kept the uneasy ninken at bay and in control for now. Although the longer Ezuri was behind them both, the harder it would become for Arashi to control her unease at the situation and she also kept silent when Kiyomi said they were going to split up, not really interested in why that was at the moment because of the scent increasing as the newest door was opening. Shisen tried not to cough but the scent was suffocating to her, so for a second, she stopped concentrating her chakra to her nose to lessen it for a moment before sending it back to her nose.
Catching the package, Kiyomi heard what it was. At first she wanted to argue and throw it back. In her opinion, she wouldn't need it, but accepted to make sure that there wouldn't be an argument between her and Kensuke now. It wasn't the place nor time to start a discussion over something like that. Starting to place the package in her own backpack, Kiyomi would wait until Team 7 was gone. With the package that Kensuke had given her earlier, Kiyomi heard Kensuke's question. Switching the channel of her earphone, she made a few signals with her right hand. Hayate didn't waver or argued as he knew what she wanted. Ruffling through his pouches, Hayate would place explosive tags around the manhole while Kiyomi would give Kensuke an answer. ''You have two genins to look after. I only have one and he is a lot more experienced than those of yours are now, in my opinion. And if things may go hectic, I can call the last member of my team.'' Kiyomi paused. ''I bet he wouldn't mind it to be in a dark space. He is used to that.'' The tone would make the hint of what Kiyomi meant only more clear. After Hayate gave a signal that he was done, Kiyomi walked to the edge of the manhole. Crouching, she stared into the darkness that was waiting for them. ''Besides, I prefer to fight without needing to watch over people.'' With that said, Kiyomi would slide down the ladder. It took quite some moments before she landed on her feet. Increasing the lightning at her left hand, she was able to see more due the increase of light in the room she was in. Only a moment later Hayate would drop next to her. ''Also, just in case...'' Kiyomi didn't finish her sentence as she would switch the channel of her earphone so that she was on the same as Hayate. Nodding to her student, the tags would go off to seal the manhole. By the time that some rocks were falling down, both Kiyomi and Hayate were walking towards the next room.
