So apparently, business shorts are a thing that exists. All I can say is... why?

Been busy lately, courtesy of the guy who thought that it was a good idea to have 3 assignments and a test due in the same week.

Bio

Anyone remember the period a little after guildfall, when the site didn't have a lot of work put into it, the servers went down pretty often and people were moving out? We waited and waited until boom, Mahz made America the guild great again. That was about where I left off.

My mistake was trying to take on everything at once (and being cringy as hell but I mean come on). Well now I'm back, and better than ever.

And I'll be damned if I let anything get in the way of having a good time.

Nikola had roughly a quarter of his breakfast left when the noise level in the cafeteria rose significantly. The boy looked over int he direction of the commotion. Sadly he wasn't tall enough to see the whole picture, but he could see - surprisingly - what appeared to be an armoured dragon running amok. He had been at this academy for long enough to see many strange things but this was truly outside of his expectations. A part of him wanted to go somewhere quieter to finish his breakfast, but the rest of him was curious.

The boy looked down at his plate; it had some bacon, some eggs, a single half-sausage, and half a piece of toast left. Though he had gone through most of it (with assistance from his fluffy companion), he wasn't confident he could finish the rest in a timely manner. The boy frowned. There was nothing for it, he would just have to eat as much as he could. He stuffed some bacon, the rest of his eggs, and the toast into his mouth, chewing and swallowing quickly. He gulped down the rest of his juice, then he wrapped the sausage in the remainder of his bacon and gave it to Kitten. The small dragon crowed in satisfaction as it chewed. The boy quietly cleaned off his area before scooping up the fluffy beast, slowly chewing on the treat he'd given it, into his arms.
"Ah, Kitten, please keep yourself clean..." Nikola sighed, wiping the area around the dragon's mouth with a napkin.
His pleas fell on deaf ears as the dragon mercilessly chewed on the meat.

The boy began to walk to the source of the disturbance, carefully pushing his way to the scene of the incident. As he arrived he noted the armoured dragon he'd seen before, as well as 2 massive cats and the people who appeared to be their masters. One master he knew well enough, a somewhat infamous house dracona student he'd heard much of through hearsay. The other was a boy his age who he didn't know at all. At a closer glance he recognised the boisterous girl's dragon as a land dragon, which he'd read plenty about in class and in the library of the Drakengard estate. As for the other summoner's cats, he was entirely unfamiliar with them. The boy watched from the sideline as his dragon companion chewed obliviously. He wasn't sure what would happen but he would be there to witness it.
The airship was a marvel of modern technology, perhaps the most advanced of its kind. Outfitted with all kinds of machines, transporting mankind place to place faster than they had ever gone before. Somewhere in that brass behemoth, a little distant from the throng that occupied it, in a quiet corner with few people around it sat the boy. His pale blond hair and clear blue eyes were quite eye-catching, and he was dressed in as fine clothes as a boy his age could claim. Yet there was an air around him that barred interaction. Perhaps it was how intensely focused the boy was on the massive book splayed across his lap. Perhaps it was the way that he muttered to himself every now and again. The boy sat in his quiet corner, oblivious to his surroundings. Just him, his book, and...

Cramming last minute like that ain't gonna help you now, kid.
The boy's face twisted into a frown of annoyance. Sensing the boy's shift in mood, the voice in his head continued.
Just great. You've been sitting here for what, 3 hours? Amazing.
"Yeah, sure. Just great, Mort." The boy grumbles quietly. "Say another word and see what happens."
In his mind the voice chuckles, and speaks again in a pompous, mocking tone.
I'm just trying to look out for my poor, talentless master. Nothing wrong with that is there?
"You'd be a lot more useful if you shut up." The boy retorted. "Besides, I've been making progress."
At that proclamation the voice erupted into laughter.
Yes, 3 hours of work later and you can read your book slightly faster! Truly a feat only the great Richard Ashfield could accomplish!
The boy slammed the book shut.
"Just shut up Mort." The boy growled.
The voice in his head chuckled mischievously.
Oh my daft master, don't you know? Demons don't wait to be let out.

Richard ignored the voice. Of course the boy knew that closing the book wouldn't silence the voice, and he knew the voice knew he knew. Nevertheless, he'd lost focus so he had no need to keep the book open. The voice had a point - he hadn't made much headway into understanding his parents' book in the 3 hours since he'd begun, and he was sure that he wouldn't receive a sudden revelation in the time it would take them to arrive at their destination. He'd studied the tome for the past 3 hours because he needed every edge he could get, and it was about as much as he could do for now.

Richard got up and dusted himself off. He picked up his bag from the ground and slung it over his shoulder before tucking his book under his arm. It was rather heavy but he'd long since gotten used to carrying it.
Finally, my master heeds my suggestions for productivity. The voice remarked sarcastically.
"If I could reach your throat right now I'd throttle you." The boy muttered.
The voice chuckled, Richard ignored it.

Things were getting louder in the throng of strangers, and he was sure he knew why. The blond boy pushed his way to the front of the group, arriving at one of the airship's windows. It revealed to him the shape of what would be his life for the next few years. Arkus academy, a stepping stone to his ambitions. Richard clenched his shaking fist, trembling not with fear but with excitement.
"We're getting closer." He muttered to himself.
The boy was getting closer to destiny. Closer to somewhere he hoped would help him decipher his book, and eventually help him to find his father. The voice harrumphed.
Finally in the right mood for it, hm? Well then, you best hope you learn faster than you study. Otherwise you'll be there for 8 bloody years.
The boy's smile turned into a sneer.
"Then you'll be here right next to me for 8 years, won't you? Oh Great Demon Mortimer."
The demon's voice cackled in the boy's head.
Of course, my glorious master. The voice said, dripping with sarcasm.
Richard couldn't see the demon in his head but he imagined the purple demon with an ear-splitting grin.
This lowly demon will stay with you until your end.
@DrowsyPangolin Turns out I forgot to mention how Richard got to the academy, so that's there now. Please tell me if it's ok to move to the character tab.
@Timemaster It's all good on my end.

@Timemaster You ok with my demon sharing a name with your second character?
Also I was trying to make a reference, I didn't even notice we had another Mortimer... I can change the name if you like.
@DrowsyPangolin
Mort hasn't actually done anything he said, he was just talking a lot of shit. I'll fix up the details though.
Right, here he is. Maybe too many spells, but anyway, feel free to tell me if something's wrong with the sheet.

Oh yeah I just remembered. Since this is steampunk does that mean there's trains and stuff?
