I think I might be interested in this, was considering either a researcher who has "seen some serious shit" and is left a little bit...off...or playing some kind of memetics specialist who has had psychological "surgery" in order to protect himself from memetic attacks. The Psycho-surgery left him with some serious side effects however.
Far above the gas giant "Nexus Prime" orbited an enormous lotus-like structure comparable in size to a large asteroid, The Chi'vakos. It was on this station that staging had begun for the diplomatic mission to Unity Accord Space. most of the crew had already packed themselves into efficient storage cubes. One of the still active passengers floated through one of the pressurized domes. This room was, to the untrained eye, a bland off-white color, a few cybernetic beings wandering aimlessly across the room with a couple of mannequin like robots. Gaimisa had seen this before on many stations, Being a spacer could be lonely, most had left some people behind. Many social animals had social needs, and the Space-Stations of the Amalgamate were designed with the needs of the people in mind. The Station knew how to comfort spacers who had a hard time adjusting to interspecies interstellar living.
A few of the Beings had tight privacy settings, and Gaimisa could not eavesdrop on them others were a bit more open with what they did in their spare time. A few of them even charged, from what Gaimisa had experienced, these glimpses into the private thoughts of spacers rarely were worth the cost. Gaimisa had a heavily augmented sensory system and could handle multiple different simultaneous sensory imputs without any-kind of problem. Many of the spacers saw themselves in environments that to them were familiar alongside people they had not seen in years...or in a few cases, centuries.
Watching these spacers cling on to old things reminded Gaimisa of ver own sentimentality, ve remembered the first stories ve reported, very poorly as ve remembered. Gaimisa had always at least pretended to be a journalist, now ve was one, and not just plagiarizing stories and rewriting them to fit different points of view, or outright making stuff up.
The Nexus was, as always, a bustle of activity, billions, perhaps even trillions of minds scattered across the moons, to those unaccustomed to the digital cities, everything was chaos, but with the proper filters in place the maelstorm of data could be navigated. Most people lived in symbiosis with numerous programs designed to sift through information, translate other languages and detect malware. Such was life in the Amalgamate.
Gaimisa posted a story containing various pieces of speculation ve had gathered on the Diplomatic situation between the Unity Accord and the Amalgamate, to the majority of Amalgamate citizens, none of this really mattered, but Gaimisa had an audience of political analysts.
Emperor Yakateh:The exact nature of the Emperor is debated among the peoples of the Amalgamate, some think of him as a lesser god, others as an egocentric megalomaniac, a few as a means of propaganda, to the uninformed he is a tyrant. but to many he is an entertainer, they look forward to his antics. The Emperor is extremely rich and likes to flaunt his money. There is more to The Emperor than meets the eye. The Emperor does not have much actual political power but does have a military which has caused controversy.
Representitive Ison: A diplomatic cyborg the size of a whale, Highly experienced.
Dominion "Eye of the Market": One of the Dominions which helps "manage" the economy of the Amalgamate
Dominion "Heart of the Storm": Can be thought of as admiral of the Angel fleet
Dominion "The Republic": a major representative of the peoples of the amalgamate
The Library: Now it mostly lies in ruins, but the library once contained vast databases of information on every topic, however its automated defense systems now leave the information difficult to access, Brave Treasure hunters/hackers search the ruins of the planets infosphere for secrets. The planet itself has a thin atmosphere but biodomes dot the surface. it has a large population but a large portion of it lives inside the archives as infomorphs, the outside world not having the same appeal as the knowledge within
The Nexus: Contains multiple warp-gates, Tightly controlled by the Gateway defense fleet, The Warp-Gates are in orbit around a gas giant with many moons. It is a nexus of interstellar trade and communication in the amalgamate, and thus, the capital.
Installation 13: Different cultures have different names for this structure, a product of the Golden age of the Amalgamation. An artificial world of bustling cities and cultures.
The Amalgamate was founded outside the territory of the Empire, Originally starting as research and trade agreements between species it soon evolved into something more. The races of the First Amalgamate dominion embraced cybernetic technology which was often used to facilitate communication. Supercomputers played an important role in government, some say they were pulling the strings. Even now, cults exist to various ancient automated systems. The Amalgamate never reached the same level of unification the Empire did, and that was just how they liked it.
The Empire and Amalgamate had many disputes once they met, They both had completely different ideas on what makes a person, on what is ethical, and on the nature of Intelligence. For a while however, they left eachother alone. at some point, long ago The Empire and Amalgamate engaged in an information war, using viruses, social engineering and other non-violent techniques to create havoc in the enemy government. The Amalgamate entered a short dark age as a result. While the higher government had fallen apart many planets formerly in the first dominion experienced cultural renaisances during this time. Eventually, not long before the war of retribution, The Dominion was rebuilt, this time, less centralized. while they have not yet rediscovered all the technology the civilization once had, they are on a road of progress, not decay. During the War of Retribution The Golgotha declared the Amalgamate Infedels and crimes against nature. The Amalgamate saw the Golgotha as a form of cancer upon the universe. For this reason the Amalgamate fought alongside the outer alliance.
The Amalgamate has a shaky relationship with the Peacekeepers due to the use of Controversal technology and the stockpiling of weapons of mass destruction from a bygone era.
At this point, there is no primary species, the species that originally made up the Amalgamate were a diverse lot, Including a herbivorous herd based group mind, Biotechnological Sea Creatures who experienced plural conciousness, Eusocial "mole people" and Insectoids who by the time they joined the Dominion, 90% of the population was cybernetic. Now they have even more species and with genetic engineering and cybernetics, staggering diversity. They prefer adapting to alien environments rather than terraforming as terraforming can hinder biodiversity.
The Amalgamate is highly critical of the unity accords and has not signed it, it hardly considers them a legitimate authority at this time. They are willing to engage in joint ventures on occasion but on other occasions they enter diplomatic conflicts.
Mostly information based economy, most manufacturing is at least partially automated, but designs for things to be created are usually designed by sentient beings. Most of the Amalgamate is capitalist but some regions use different economic systems. While Slavery is "technically" legal but it tends to be bad business to attract the ire of emancipation organizations.
Most planets have their own planetary defense force, and some of the richer members of society have PMCs of various qualities. many people can afford a few defense drones, though the legality of this varies. Some trade unions and Civil Rights organizations also have armies...which can get interesting. Gateway Defense Fleet: Specially tasked with defending dominion warp gates. Expeditionary Force: The main military branch of the Amalgamate, explores possibly hostile locations and determines threat level. Public Defense Force: An Elite Police force who ensures that all the little private armies play nice, and deal with other domestic crimes that cannot be handled by local government. Cyber Army: Deals with Cyber and Memetic warfare and spying. Angel Fleet: Advanced pre-fall starships alongside the most advanced ships of the modern era, they are Interstellar warfare elites. Special Circumstances: A special forces organization.
I was thinking of that concept, Pathfinder mentioned mortals, not humans.
Anyway, when and if I get to the humans (Eshe will always be watching her children), maybe I'll pull through with self aware plants. Maybe "aliens". At the moment I'm trying just brainstorming. I'll probably post by tomorrow as currently I am busy.
I am considering making Magic, Daemons, and Angels soon (daemons not being evil, more like disembodied spirits)
Nothing lost really... I mean all Death was doing was making giant stupid lizards.
I also feel like mention something; We can make this world in whatever manner we wish. It doesn't have to be our version of Earth... or even Earth like in general. Which is why while some gods are working on apes, Farxus is going to be ascending Crustaceans. If Farxus has his way, humans will not be the major race on this planet... at least not the only one anyway.
I only gave language to humanity because everyone was working on apes, and as god of mind and soul, it kinda is Nous responsibility. Of course, now it will work on creating different kinds of for different kinds of creatures, I am planning on having Nous make "spirits" and "angels"
