Can't beat my own demons, so I beat up fictional ones instead. It's fun!

Luminosity
Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. I'm Luminosity, but feel free to call me Lumi or Lum. If you're here, I suppose that means you have some interest in me, my writing, or in roleplaying with me. Here's a bit about me and my preferences. In general, if you want to talk, about RPing or anything else, just shoot me a PM. I always try to make time for new friends.
About Me
Basics I'm in my 20s, female, and currently trying to figure out how that whole "being an adult" thing works. I've been roleplaying on this site for a while off and on, but in general I've been roleplaying for over ten years, here and there. I'm on US Central Time currently.
Writing Level My writing level on this site varies from casual to advanced, though the sweet spot is usually around 3-5 paragraphs per post. If I'm feeling inspired I tend to write kinda long posts, so be warned. I've never been a free-level roleplayer, and writing that little per post is typically something that makes me lose interest.
Activity I love RPing, but I am busy quite often, and so my posting rate will vary. Sometimes I'll be able to post multiple times a day, and sometimes I won't be able to post more than once a week. Please keep this in mind if you'd like to RP with me. Also that more applies to 1x1's, I do my best to be consistent if I'm joining a group RP. My normal writing times for RP are first thing in the morning or somewhat late at night, but sometimes I can squeeze posts in during the afternoon.
Preferences I'm mostly into fantasy RPs with a good dose of adventure and action, especially dark fantasy settings. In terms of mature content, I prefer a certain level of realism, and I'm totally fine with language and gore (I actually really like writing fight scenes). I'm happy to write romance, but I really prefer not to force it or have it be the main focus of a roleplay, but rather something that happens naturally if it feels right for my character. I've never written smut/sex scenes without fading to black, and it's not something I'm especially interested in trying. I enjoy group RPs as well as 1x1's, and while I've GMed in the past, I don't do it very often now, due to stress and time constraints.
I really only RP as female characters here, as that's just my personal preference. I write all kinds in lots of genres in my personal work, but I RP here to simply write what I enjoy most. I'm fine with taking on minor characters or NPCs of any gender if the RP needs it, though.
Games
Do You Play League of Legends? I used to! You can probably guess who my favorite champion is. I haven't played in a long time, though, since I was never very good and ran into one too many unpleasant online experiences. I still follow the game for all of the amazing art and characters it produces, and I'm interested in the upcoming titles in that universe that aren't MOBAs.
So What Do You Play? Lately? Apex Legends, Mortal Kombat 11, Final Fantasy (VII, VII Remake, VIII, XII, a real FF trip lately), and Resident Evil 3. Honestly, not a lot lately, just haven't had the time/interest in anything for a bit.
That's about it! Thanks for the interest, and if you want to get in touch, don't hesitate to send a PM my way. See you around :)
Freya's kick blasted a few teeth out of the nasty green creature, but still it grasped at her, long fingers closing around her ankle. She panicked, trying to take a step back but tripping and falling backwards. She hit the mud with a splat, but getting dirty was the last thing she cared about right now. The goblin was trying to grab her legs now and climb on top of her, and Freya frantically kicked at its face until she was free.
The boy was gone, a horrific horse-like creature replacing him. Brenton tried to fight it before shouting to run, and Aubrey called for iron or steel. Freya crawled backwards on her back, but she thought of little. Maybe her belt's buckle would work, but she didn't like her chances using it as a weapon. She had to agree with Brenton: they need to run.
Aina went down, her twin shrieking for help. Freya was closest, scrambling out of the mud and quickly getting to Aina's other side. "I've got her, come on!" she urged, taking half of Aina's weight under one shoulder and hoping Hannei could handle the rest. "We have to get out of here!"
It was a lot to take in. When she'd entered Zion earlier, Fiona hadn't expected to end the day rooming peacefully with seven others without once using her sword. Her years of training with her family had led her to believe she was ready, as ready as she could be at least, and so when she arrived she expected the wait until the fight began wouldn't be long. A month... it was a relief of sorts, but also a new weight on her shoulders. She needed to refocus, to find more patience, and drive away the anxiousness she felt creeping up. It would only get worse as the day drew nearer.
The group exchanged introductions in the hall, so she added her own. "I'm Fiona. It's nice to meet everyone." She didn't feel much else needed adding. Some of the others mentioned their roles in combat, but Fiona felt hers was fairly obvious: she was a girl with a thin sword and barely any armor, best at striking demons and not getting struck in return. She could burn them as well, but Heaven's Fire wasn't something she dared to demonstrate indoors. She barely trusted herself with her powers, and wasn't about to show off.
Her family name felt like something best left for later, as well. She wasn't sure if any of the others would know it, but more and more Fiona was becoming self-conscious of it, wondering if she'd been chosen because of her blood and not her ability. It couldn't be true, considering how green some of the others looked, but doubt was a tricky thing to get rid of.
Fiona nodded in agreement with Alistair and Braska and went to get settled in the rooms. The men and women looked to be splitting as Virgil had suggested, so she followed Braska and claimed a bed. She unfastened her sword belt and removed her breastplate to be more comfortable, but she soon found herself unsure what to do. She wanted to train, to go over her sword skills again, to hone her magic, but it wasn't the time. She needed to save her strength for tomorrow, and the days to come.
Her sister had mentioned that it was common to stay inside at night, though she herself often disregarded that. Fiona was not as much of a troublemaker as Sophia had always been, so she had no intention of wandering the streets.
Alistair eventually solved the problem, however, when he invited them to evening prayers. Fiona imagined the relationships with God in this group were as diverse as their fighting styles. Her own thoughts on the matter were... mixed, and perhaps troubled, but she had no qualms going through the motions for the sake of appearances and cooperation with the group.
"I'll join you." Her prayers would likely be as silent as God's answers, but it was useful enough for finding her center. Her strength had always come from peace and focus, and she'd need all of it for what was ahead.
Freya jumped at the yowling of the cat, and exhaled an annoyed breath. Great, let's just start throwing rocks at everything... She really wasn't sure what to make of most of her new companions. They didn't seem like people she'd be friends with normally, but then again, Freya hadn't had much luck making any new friends lately.
Aubrey seemed level-headed enough, though, and Freya was in full agreement with her decision to get a move on. She caught up and fell in a half-step behind on Aubrey's left, slowing to match her pace. "Not sure that cat was tame..." She shook her head, wondering why she'd led with that. "Um. I'm sorry about your sister. I'll try to keep an eye out for her." She didn't know how many of the others were simply going to look out for themselves. Most, probably, and it'd be the smart thing to do, Freya guessed. Not her way, though.
A few moments later, a cry cut through the air, a young person's. Freya exchanged one glance with Aubrey, and then she was off, accelerating to a run and expecting that at least a few of the others would be behind her. Were there more of them, scattered elsewhere? Was it Aubrey's sister?
No, as it turned, it was a young boy, trapped on the muddy bank of a lake. The greenery surrounding it was far more than just green, but Freya was distracted by the green-skinned creatures harassing the child. "...what the fuck?" Freya said breathlessly. There was no time to question it. They looked like vicious little shits, and the boy seemed terrified. Freya wasn't the most imposing of the group physically, but she was the first to arrive, and wasn't just going to stand there.
She'd played soccer when she was little, and it was those memories that she channeled as she charged forward, boots sinking an inch into the mud with each step. She wound up, and made to kick one of the goblin-things right in its pointy teeth.
It was hard for Fiona not to feel small as she was carried along in the stream of recruits headed for the castle. Many were taller than her, broader, and more heavily armored. Some were grizzled veterans of crusades, others fresh-faced like herself. They all had to feel the excitement of the moment, though, surely. This was what they'd been working towards all these years.
Her small size did have one advantage, as Fiona was able to linger in the shadow of a much larger, armored man while the announcements were made, the sergeants were introduced, and the names were called. She couldn't imagine enduring this heat for long wearing so much metal.
Names were called, and called some more, and the area steadily cleared out, though thankfully Fiona's pillar of shade was one of the unlucky few that had to stand around through the whole process like herself. She stood at attention the whole time, hands clasped neatly in front of her, but the de Valencourt name was never called.
For a specific reason, it seemed. She followed the man Virgil into the relative and welcome cool of the castle interior, trying not to get too distracted as she walked by the marvels of the architecture.
I was... chosen? A moment of doubt seized Fiona when she heard and comprehended the reason, that she would be among the very first few to venture an organized mission into the Abyss. Why me? Was it because of her family? She didn't feel exactly qualified for the honor, even if it was the sort of thing her training had been for. She forced the thoughts to stop. It didn't matter why. All that mattered was the duty that had been asked of her.
"I will," she answered, firmly, and suddenly aware that she was the first to do so. She glanced around at the others in the group really for the first time. Some looked far more experienced than her, but not all. They were a diverse group of fighters, by the looks of them.
Fiona had a thousand questions she wanted to ask, but it didn't seem like the proper time, so she held her tongue, and nodded at Virgil.
Mari's a slim girl, undoubtedly still a little small for a fighter, but she presents a striking image all the same. She looks far more human than elf, though she has the blood of both, and the lasting youthfulness and perhaps beauty of her elven mother's side.
Her auburn red hair is cut shoulder-length and often partially braided, side-parted and framing bright eyes of a sea blue-green. Her skin is, of course, quite pale, but despite that Mari gives off the look of a young woman still full of life and energy.
Witch of the Waves
Skill Set
The soon-to-be Ninth Daughter of Rán has a great many skills tucked under her belt, but she's a master of none of them. Mari is resourceful and cunning, skilled at sneaking and theft and lockpicking from her years growing up alone.
Since joining her new sisters Mari has begun to hone herself into a proper warrior, but this is a work in progress. She has some skill with blades, shields, daggers, and bows, and doesn't lack for courage, but she's not yet the most formidable opponent with any of these.
Equipment
Heavy armor is a death sentence in the sea, so Mari wears only a little metal. Lots of leather and cloth make up her outfit, offering her only meager protection in a fight. From her necklace and belts hang symbols of Rán, identifying Mari as one of her Nine Daughters.
Typically Mari carries sword, shield, bow, arrows, and several daggers, but of these, all but her daggers were lost in the fight aboard The Grey Maiden.
Personality
Mari is fierce, bold, and passionate, and a genuinely good woman at heart. She feels she has a great deal to make up for from her youth, and believes fully that the Daughters of Rán are her way to redemption.
When working Mari is serious, focused, and efficient, and though at times self-doubt can slow her down, she has enough courage to forge ahead even when she suspects she might fail. Recently she has found meaning and purpose in helping others, and will gladly take up a worthy cause even at risk to her own safety or fortune.
In quieter moments, Mari is fully capable of relaxing, unwinding, and sharing a drink and stories. She's not secretive about her past or her feelings, and finds that she connects with and empathizes easily with others.
Background
Mari remembers little of her time before the Free Isles. She remembers fleeing along the coast with her parents as refugees when she was eight, and the constant terror. She remembers the ship she came to Umalla on. Somehow Mari made it through, but her parents were left behind. She knows not what became of them.
The half-elf girl grew up in the care and service of one Lukas Rawls, a crime lord more commonly known as Smoke for his most persistent habit. He was not kind to Mari, but he did give her a roof to sleep under and a feeling of safety at night she had never known, and for that she stole for him, spied for him, eavesdropped, whatever she could to earn her place. As she grew older she graduated to other work: extortion, intimidation, other things that she is not proud of.
Her life changed at 18, when she was caught stealing from a woman named Asherah, First of the Daughters of Rán, a small but respected and even feared group of women sellswords. Often known by other names such as Sisters of the Sea or Witches of the Waves or simply the Sirens, the Daughters belonged to the sea-goddess Rán, a clever and cunning natural goddess that had yet to succumb to corruption. The gifts she granted her Nine Daughters were not extraordinary, but it was believed that the presence of a Daughter aboard a ship could well be the difference between a smooth voyage and a death at the hands of a passing leviathan or vicious storm.
Asherah held Mari's life in her hands, but for reasons unknown took a liking to the young woman, and after some time offered her a new path: Rán always had Nine Daughters, and currently there were but Eight. It would not be an easy life, but there were no easy lives anymore, and this way Mari could serve the people and better herself.
Knowing she would make enemies by betraying Smoke, Mari accepted all the same. With the protection of the well-respected Daughters he dared not go after her, and for the moment Mari was free to train in peace. Asherah and Mari's new sisters began the process of forging her into a warrior. She learned slowly and with many mistakes, but learned all the same.
Two years later, Mari reached the point in her training that Asherah found acceptable, and after a small test of her skill and professionalism, she was set to make her vows to the sea goddess, and become a full-fledged Daughter of Rán. Her test was to guard a trade ship, The Grey Maiden, and follow Asherah's lead. Upon returning to the Free Isles, she would become the Ninth Daughter.
But the voyage was doomed. No sea beasts attacked, but pirates, an overwhelming force. Mari fought well, but suffered a blow from a mace to her side, and toppled overboard, where she quite nearly drowned. She has no knowledge of what became of the ship or of Asherah, though her leader was alive and well last Mari saw.
Injured, alone, and without most of her weapons, Mari's goal is to find a way back to the Free Isles, and pray to the goddess that her mentor survived the battle.

Race
Half-Elf (Silvari and Norgardian)
Appearance
Mari's undoubtedly a little small for a fighter, but moves with the grace and poise of someone who has had thorough training, if not a great deal of experience. She can easily pass for human even if her auburn red hair isn't covering her lightly pointed ears. Her eyes are a bright sea blue-green, and she typically gives off the look of someone still full of life and energy.
She wears light armor, mostly embossed and studded leather that's probably more decorative than it is protective, with a minimum of cobbled-together plate. It's in Mari's interest to stay lightly geared, considering how often she finds herself on open water.

The Ninth Daughter of Rán
Background
~Aspiring Mercenary Priestess ~Lower Class, Criminal Background ~Daughter of a runaway Silvari noblewoman and a Norgardian smuggler
History
Mari is the result of a love story that ended in tragedy, the child of a young High Elven woman forced to flee from a political power struggle and a common smuggler that long since left the north behind. She grew up in the Sea of Swords, and her parents were both killed when her mother's family rivals caught up with her.
Her father's debts were passed down, and Mari found herself in the indentured servitude of a criminal and pirate lord, an Izyrian named Ihsan. She worked for him and his crews, hopping islands and pickpocketing, thieving, spying, eavesdropping, anything to earn her place and keep a roof over her head. As she grew, she graduated to more direct assistance, and took some part in piracy and raids.
Her life changed at 18, when she was caught stealing from a woman named Asherah, First of the Daughters of Rán, a small but respected and even feared group of women sellswords. Often known by other names such as Sisters of the Sea or Witches of the Waves or simply the Sirens, the Daughters belonged to the clever and cunning sea-goddess Rán. The gifts she granted her Nine Daughters were not always extraordinary, but it was believed that the presence of a Daughter aboard a ship could well be the difference between a smooth voyage and a death at the hands of a passing leviathan or vicious storm.
When Asherah unexpectedly took a liking to Mari, she felt the Goddess had guided them together. Rán's Daughters always numbered Nine, but recently one had passed, opening a place for Mari if she wanted it. Even knowing she'd make an enemy of Ihsan by betraying him, Mari accepted, and began two years of hard training with her new sisters, who protected her while she prepared to join their ranks. She learned slowly and with many mistakes, but learned all the same.
Now at the end of her training, Mari faces a rite of passage: venture into the Blackwood, alone, and make her way into the forgotten places with Rán's guidance, to find her hidden temple, a place supposedly only accessible to the Nine Daughters. There she will pray and accept the gifts the Goddess offers, seizing the power she feels she needs to fully make amends for her past.
Motivation
Mari must find the Hidden Temple of Rán, hidden somewhere in the Blackwood, and complete her initiation into the Daughters of Rán. After that, she can follow where the waters take her, and sell her sword and skills to those she feels need it most.
Witch of the Waves

"Valerie the Bug Slayer? Gotta start somewhere. I know I can do this."
Personality: Freya's quiet on the surface, and not the easiest girl to open up. She'd much rather listen to others than talk about herself, and at times can seem secretive or sly. She may enjoy writing, but she's not the best with words when put on the spot. She's never made friends easily, something she's actually quite hard on herself about.
Despite her enjoyment of archery, Freya is not violent at all, practicing it at first as a way to spend time with a friend and later as a way to find some inner peace. She'll resort to violence only if she feels she has no other choice. Bravery is not something she lacks, though, and she'll jump at a chance to help others, so she can make ties with actions rather than words.
Freya has been looking for a fresh start around new faces for a while now. This is not exactly what she had in mind.
History: Freya grew up the younger of two children in a fairly well off family, spending most of her childhood in a moderately sized Pacific Northwest town. She had a stable, normal life for the most part, finding her interests in school in things like art and writing, and beyond it in activities like archery and rock climbing. Freya wasn't the most popular or outgoing girl, but she had a steady circle of friends and a healthy home life.
Her world was turned upside down at the age of 16, however, when she and her best friend were hit by a drunk driver while Freya was behind the wheel. She made it out with only a broken bone in her arm, but her friend was killed. The trauma from that is something she still hasn't properly dealt with, and over her senior year of high school is proceeded to deteriorate several aspects of her life, the social parts more than anything.
She withdrew into isolation for a while, but near the end of her senior year her friends convinced her to skip school on a Friday and take a camping trip. It proved to be just what she needed, and started the process of turning her spirits around before she heads off to the east coast for a fresh start at a university.
But she never made it home. Freya got separated from the others on the road back, and pulled over to look up directions. That was when she felt the dizziness set in, and a few seconds later she slumped back in her seat. She woke up somewhere completely different.
She's a little on the slim side for a fighter, but Fiona's plainly in excellent shape, with a poise and grace in motion only achievable through years of training. Her skin is fair and mostly unblemished or scarred, giving her a very "green" appearance as far as warriors go. She wears her strawberry blonde hair mostly loose, but partially braided behind her head into a ponytail.
Fiona feels the pressure to carry on her family's legacy, even if that's somewhat self-inflicted. She's eager to prove herself, and can be reckless at times, but it ultimately comes from good intentions. She doesn't want future generations of her family to need to sacrifice like the past ones have, and quietly dreams of a peaceful life in a world she's helped heal. She doesn't enjoy battle, but she'll dive into it head first if it needs to be done. She's quite hard on herself for her failures, particularly if it was someone else who paid the price for her mistake.
She can be a little too serious at times, always focused on the task at hand, but with a little persistence she responds well to the personalities around her, and adapts well to social situations even in tough times.
Biography
The de Valencourts have won great renown in the wars against demons. Fiona's grandfather was among the first to make use of God's Gift for warfare, and his descendants have carried on his work, one after the other accepting the gift and devoting their lives to the struggle. The weight of expectation was always on Fiona and her older sister Sophia, and they both accepted their fates without much in the way of hesitation.
They had more advantages than most growing up, as the de Valencourts earned a significant amount of power in multiple northern nations for their work, which meant Fiona was able to devote her time to training and preparation as a teenager. Never able to match her older sister, she nonetheless grew skilled and capable, all while the crusades raged on, up to the creation of the fortress at the edge of the abyss.
Times have changed, and now warriors have begun to descend into the abyss, to battle demons and face the complete unknown. Sophia was one of the first to venture down, and she hasn't returned. Now it's Fiona's turn. Optimistic but nervous, she hopes she can locate her sister, or at the very least make a difference in the grand scheme of things.

de Valencourt Sword || P: +2 S: +3
A thin, one-handed straight sword, double-edged. An elegant, well-balanced, finely made weapon, it serves both as Fiona's tool for slaying demons and as a symbol of her family's relative wealth and power compared to much of the world. It was a gift from her mother, upon the completion of her training.
de Valencourt Spellsword's Attire || S: +2 R: -3
Fiona wears a personalized uniform in her family's colors, clean white and solid red, the fabric thin and light and comfortable, well suited to the hot southern climate. The material and the expert tailoring mark her status somewhat, as does the gleaming, polished steel breastplate she wears. It serves as her only piece of real armor, leaving her light and fast in battle, but also more vulnerable to damage.

Please keep this in mind if you'd like to RP with me. Also that more applies to 1x1's, I do my best to be consistent if I'm joining a group RP. My normal writing times for RP are first thing in the morning or somewhat late at night, but sometimes I can squeeze posts in during the afternoon.
Preferences
I'm mostly into fantasy RPs with a good dose of adventure and action, especially dark fantasy settings.
Lately? [s]Apex Legends, Mortal Kombat 11, Final Fantasy (VII, VII Remake, VIII, XII, a real FF trip lately), and Resident Evil 3.[/s] Honestly, not a lot lately, just haven't had the time/interest in anything for a bit.
That's about it! Thanks for the interest, and if you want to get in touch, don't hesitate to send a PM my way. See you around :)

About Me

Basics
I'm in my 20s, female, and currently trying to figure out how that whole "being an adult" thing works.
