Post IC and be polite enough not to use eachothers' stuff for metagaming, or post via PMs and have me acting as a middle man between the groups?

I think I would prefer posting IC as well. I'm a polite person, I can handle it :D

• The School Cafeteria •

Mallory was about to return to her food when another person intervened, displaying their magical ability for the whole cafeteria to see. Although the boy was probably doing it to stop the conflict altogether, his use of magic made her wary. Mallory was joking when she told the students in front of her that the whole fight might end up in a few bruises to the face, but now she was a bit more on edge when the fourth boy to arrive decided to bust out some magic. It could have gone extremely downhill from there.

Then, everything in the cafeteria came to a silent halt as one of the Professors stomped in.

The conflict had been resolved, for now. Mallory would find herself in a mini lecture as the imposing woman explained the source behind the previous boy's magic, as well as giving a good telling off to the rest of the boys in front of the entire cafeteria. Mallory snorted, taking the last bite of her bread.

Well, they totally had it coming.

• Classroom Exams •

The revelation of written exams weren't much of a surprise to Mallory. This was a prestigious school for professional mages after all; written tests like this, Mallory thought, were inevitable to come across in the first few days of the school year. Mallory wasn't incredibly intelligent by any means, but she considered herself smart enough. Had her parents not been the incredibly intelligent people they were, she wouldn't even have the slightest sense of what half the questions on the paper meant. The next time she went home, she would have to thank them for that.

Mallory answered what she could. But then came the time to start writing up her essay on why she aspired to become a professional mage. At first, her mind went completely blank. She had agreed to attend the institute for the sake of honing her powers as a mage, more so to gain good control and understanding over them. The more knowledge the better; her parents couldn't stress this enough, especially after what happened when Mallory decided to do a little 'experiment' on the one day she was left home alone. However, just recalling those memories all the way back to the first time she discovered her magical affinities struck a chord in Mallory. With that one idea in mind, she began to write.

Magic is a wonderful thing, but the more you know, the more fascinating it becomes.
• An Old, Burned out Town •

For some reason, Mallory felt a bit drained after the written exam. Scribbling away on sheets of paper for an hour and a half in complete silence wasn't something she particularly enjoyed. But now it was time for the practical exam, which everyone else seemed more enthusiastic about. During the thirty minute bus ride to her next location, Mallory restrained her mischievous mannerisms (she didn't have the energy to play 'who can out-insult the other person' at that time) and decided to quietly rest up for the entire journey. Perhaps there were some short conversations in between, but Mallory made sure she was mentally and physically relaxed before the practical exam begun. She would definitely need it once she got off the bus.

Full-force, objective based combat test. Mallory was ecstatic.

The whole group sorting thing was pretty chaotic. Everyone was scuttling around in desperate search for decent partners, and Mallory could only let herself flow through the crowd in order to not get trampled on. With only five minutes left and having just escaped the more concentrated area of students, Mallory still had no one else to team up with. Her thoughts went back to the magic card boy from a few hours back, but in this large crowd she had no such luck finding him. She didn't have any time to thoroughly do so.

Somehow, the flow of the crowd had swept her towards the few people she did recognise. It was the victim and the peacemaker; two of the four boys from the cafeteria incident. Another, shorter person was there too, not looking very amused by the boy that stood over them. From what she could hear, harsh rejection against the boy followed soon after. Luck just wasn't on that boy's side today.

Luck just isn't on your side today, is it?

Mallory waited for an appropriate moment to approach the boy with that statement, preferably when he wasn't standing as close to peacemaker boy and his shorter comapnion. She thought it was likely he would take the opportunity to group up with her after being turned down by someone else, and the closer Mallory was to a full group the less likely she would end up with someone less tolerable. This kid seemed nice enough at least, better than she had come across so far.

You know, I think the both of us could do with an actual group.

• Mordhaben's Institute, Courtyard to Cafeteria •

The boy proceeded to give an actual demonstration, which surprised Mallory. Perhaps he was the type of person to not be shaken by the words of others, however harsh or crude or overwhelmingly sarcastic. The type of person Mallory could dish out playful insults to, knowing that neither of them probably didn't care. That's what she assumed, anyway.

The cards in the boy's right hand seemed to fly into the left, all in one flawless move. Again, unexpectedly, Mallory found herself in awe at the smooth motion. She had the feeling that this was likely one of his simpler stunts; maybe investing time in perfecting card tricks wasn't as strange as she had thought.

"Just like that. Got it? The trick is to not be an idiot, and a bit of magic, but mostly not being an idiot," he said.

But before Mallory could say anything back, the opening ceremony decided to start.

Ooh, it's actually starting! she squealed, knowing that the faster this ceremony went the quicker she could get out of this terrible rain.

After the odd introductions from the administrator and his assistant, a short film began to play against a canvas screen. What started off as an observation of a peaceful society descended into a film about the horrors and tragedies of war. The shift in tone was alarming, and Mallory could see that in a few of the faces around her. The scene with the blackened town specifically seemed to draw out a few gasps, the horrifying screams of the dark orb in the town square made ever more mysterious from the crackling audio quality. The film would soon come to an end, some people still with their hands clasped over their mouths.

Mallory said nothing.

"Got something interesting to do? Or do you just plan to stand here, looking dumb?"

Looking as if she had just been shaken awake, Mallory snapped her neck around to face her so-called 'teacher'. She turned around so fast that she was sure she heard her neck crack.

"That does seem like a talent of yours, dearest."

I plan to get out of this depressing rain and get myself a long awaited meal, actually, she smirked. I guess I'll find the time and effort to do some cute card tricks some other day, because my stomach is not waiting for anyone.

Mallory was not going to stand around while the other students filed into the cafeteria. The girl skipped away, waving a hand to her conversation partner before she was swept into the crowd.

Until next time then, dearest.

The second time Mallory snapped her head around to look at something was when she found herself within earshot of a minor catastrophe. She was walking over to a table to sit down and eat, minding her own business for once, when a rather unhappy student a few metres away started having a go at another student. He looked so angry that Mallory thought he was going to explode right then and there, either emotionally or physically. Or maybe even both. Some of the surrounding students seemed to think so too, and some even tried to intervene before the unhappy student was pushed over the edge of sanity completely.

Mallory simply raised an eyebrow, watching the whole spectacle unfold from a safe distance as she sat down and bit into her bread. She looked towards the two students that sat near her, looking slightly confused about he whole ordeal.

That looks kinda bad, doesn't it? she said, wincing at the student on the receiving end of wrath itself. Mallory glanced at the students before her; what appeared to be a Chimera and what appeared to be a human.

I'd gladly stay to watch some stupid bickering between stupid people any day, but that over there looks like it's going to turn into a riot more than anything! she continued, letting out a low chuckle. Mallory would stay put for now, because honestly, it didn't seem like the best time for anyone to jump in and intervene. And considering the type of person who appeared to be causing all the trouble, getting involved probably wasn't the smartest idea.

In the meantime, I guess:

• Mordhaben's Institute, the Courtyard •

Mallory cackled.

It was one of those moments when Mallory hadn't actually intended to provoke anyone in the first place; she felt sincere curiousity towards this person's strange pass time activity, though her way of speech seemed to have directed the conversation into more hostile territory. The boy didn't look unsettled by her comment at all however, eventually retorting back with his own sense of wit. So he was going to play that game, Mallory thought. Well, it was much more entertaining than standing in the rain with nothing to do and no one to talk to.

Maybe you should put yourself to the test, then, she chuckled, her smile now looking genuinely devious. Teach me your cultured ways, O great and honourable teacher.

Mallory wasn't sure if she even wanted the opening ceremony to start now. Or about what grey matter even was.

• Mordhaben's Institute, the Courtyard •

Mallory hated the rain.

What a way to set the scene, she thought; of all days, it just had to start pouring down on the day she was officially admitted into Mordhaben's Institute. Although the clouds were not as grey and the rain was not as heavy, eventually Mallory's hair would go from extra fluffy to extra damp from all the rainwater that it had collected. She was frowning all the way through her walk to the school courtyard, regretting the time she had spent to make herself look more decent and less dead than usual.

But then again, Mallory's hair was really just a bunch of dead skin cells that formed a strange white mop on her head. In an interesting school full of very interesting people, something like that was the least of her worries. She was excited; meeting all of these diverse people in an environment she had never experienced before was certainly something to look forward to. Mallory smiled, the accidental hint of maliciousness on her lavender lips likely scaring the few people who happened to catch sight of the look she had on her face at that moment.

The entrance ceremony seemed to be taking quite long to really get started, and Mallory was stuck in a crowd full of people she didn't know without anything to do to pass the time. Although she had zero problems having conversations with other people, as of now there was really nothing interesting she could talk about. But as she attempted to fish out some conversation starters from her head, Mallory caught sight of someone who did have something interesting to do to pass the time. Without a second thought, the girl bounced over towards the person shuffling cards in their hands.

That's a skillful hand you've got there! Mallory interrupted, that unintentionally shady smile creeping onto her face once again. You must be very committed, 'cause I sure wouldn't spend my time perfecting something like that.
