Hey there, not too late to join this one is it?

(Also, is it possible for characters to learn new skills like magic as they progress through the story?)
Well, what do ya know? I've just finished reading a load of Warriors books myself, and I've always loved to see the canine equivalent (I'm not sure how one would get an african wild dog and an artic fox to inhabit the same area, but I'll guess I'll just wait and see how it plays out)

Interested
Marissa paced on, trying not to think about the dead cub. Trying so desperatley hard, but Bo's story had the same underlying themes to it. Why was it always the youngest ones that had to die?

"Everything ends eventually..." she said, half to herself and half out loud. Marissa understood Bo's want to be brief over such a sensitive matter - she left out many key events in her own story. "Whether it be a wolf's soul, or the family pack... but eventually, this winter will end too. Then it will be the end of death. And sorrow..." Until the entire process started over again like a never ending loop

Her ears pricked up at Bloody's arrival, and the fresh scent of an unusual kill. Hang on, didn't Aurora say he was going hunting? She could have waited instead of making herself ill with the hare!
Even though his muzzle was splashed even further with blood stains than it was before, the large white wolf seemed somewhat more humane this time round. Marissa even caught herself wanting to befriend him, but she couldn't get the images of his crazed and insane face from moments ago to pass. What had happened to him, had the hunt cooled his temperament down?

She wanted to approach the fox, but didn't want to be the first person to do so. Besides... she could wait a little. A tiny bit longer... could she really?

"What about you, Bloody..." His name still felt weird and ominous to pronounce. "Have you eaten as of late?" Marissa remembered something vaguely in her old pack about an order and heirachy aas to who got to eat first, but it was a very long time ago. Did this situation count as well?
"Yeah, I don't think it was great either... on the plus side, I'm not going to be eating for the next three days or so."

Marissa thought Bo's offer was sweet, but there was very little chance that he could follow through with it. She'd help with the hunts anyway, she needed practice working with a pack anyway.

"The puppy... I don't know. I'm not sure if we can save him. If he's in too much suffering, we should put him to sleep." It pained her to say these words, since killing youngsters completely went against her grains of morality. But then so did watching them suffer.

"I've been alone for... a year? Two summers now?" She said somberly. "These parts of the forest are new to me. I've always kept on the move, trying to get as far away from my original pack as possible. In short, I think it's a fairly silly idea, since they might not even exist by now. I've just been steadily running away anyhow - and hence, I have ended up here. What about you? You look a little young to have left the safety of your parents already"
"Aurora, do you remember the time when we sensed another wolf around the time we found that puppy on your back? Well... this is he. Bo, my name is Marissa, and this is Aurora."

She nudged the hare with her front paws first, and then her muzzle. Would Marissa regret eating this later? She would preferably liked to keep her energy levels higher than the others in case a fight broke out, but eating the whole thing would be a risk in itself.

"I don't mind sharing. It'd be a shame for it to go to waste anyway..." Marissa bit into the lower half, ripping it cleanly in two. Argh what the hell, it tastes even worse than I thought what is this... Half coagulated blood slowly dripped down her fangs. Okay, eat it fast ah... Marissa swallowed the whole thing in one go, in an attempt as to not let any of it touch her tastebuds. And yet, her whole mouth still seemed to flood with a sour stench.

Saliva started pouring openly from her jaws in reflex. "Ok. I'm fine. I'm absolutely fine. I am."
Darn you and your American time zones! It's almost 8 am here :P
Marissa turned round at a faint and unfamiliar voice behind her. Her vision was greeted with a familiar sight of tan.

"Oh ho! So you really were alive all that time!" She said with a smile. Her tail swished back and forth once, and she stopped for a while to let the wolf catch up with her.

She frowned at the sight of the Hare though. It looked old and stale, not even quite safe enough to eat. Plus, she had no idea how the other wolves would react to seeing meat in the vicinity... no matter how poor quality it was. Marissa decided not to draw any additional attention to it.

"How about you come with us? Not totally sure where we're going yet, but there's a large group of us now. Albeit, not as big as a proper pack, but you know what they say about safety in numbers"
Really got complicated when...

Marissa didn't speak, not even once. She understood that she wasn't meant to be wary of the white wolf just yet, but where they supposed to just wait until he decides to methodically kill them all in their sleep when something just didn't go their way? Was this really safer than being alone?

Either way, the arrangements were temporary, and should only last for the winter. They could last a couple of months together... right?

But it was when that wolf Bloody (surely, that had to be a sobriquet?) Offered his help that Marissa got angry. What, did he think of himself as a charity case, and the two females as irrelevant? She growled loudly and abruptly, before turning round and sulking away.

Her mind wondered back to the golden wolf she left behind... and wondered if he was doing okay. Whether he himself had been encountered by crazy wolves in her absence. Then Marissa realised that out of anger, Marissa had left Aurora alone with a pup to protect among two other males. Yeap. Smart.

She came back at a brisk trot, noticing that the crazy white wolf had gone, and now they were left with the grey one, that Marissa hadn't quite formed an opinion of yet. They seemed to be getting along okay, was the situation civil?

"Aurora! I don't think I've mentioned this before... but my name is Marissa." She slowed down her pace as she walked up to the remaining male, feeling a lot more confident now that Bloody was gone. "Hello there... who are you, and where might we be going?"
...Maybe he is dead already?

Marissa moved in a little closer to inspect. To her, the young-un still seemed to be asleep. The rise and fall of his chest wall was still there though, however fainted. His ear twitched in his sleep.

That was one thing Marissa missed about her old pack - taking care of the younger wolves. Even though it was never strictly her role, she always took the opportunity to play around with the pups and guard them. When they were still alive, that was.

Anyway, this one was quite a deep sleeper. Marissa brought the dead bird closer to him, so it was unlikely that any other animal would steal it in case she had to leave. And that's when she heard the distress call.

She was almost certain that another wolf had turned up, even if she couldn't quite sense it yet. As she ran back to Aurora, she made a point of leaving a trail of disturbed foliage behind her, and passing through trees so that her scent stuck to them, in case the pup wanted to follow.

Marissa broke into the clearing already snarling, but was completely taken aback by the "intruder"s size. And those blood stains. In fact, his entire monstrous appearance was alarming. Would she even survive a fight with that thing?

"Aurora... What is this?"
