The Town of Beginnings was quieter now. Most of the players had advanced up through the dungeons to the higher floors. Kitty sat on the roof of a small building, staring out over the rooftops and the rolling green hills in the background. However the atmosphere here was different now. She remembered the first day, how hopeful and excited everyone had been. How quickly that had turned to fear when they’d discovered the truth. However most had moved on, the weaker left behind. It had been quiet for a long time, everyone finding a kind of content peace down here.

Everything was different now. Recently monsters had been invading the safe zones and people had been dying. People were frightened. Hell she was frightened. Whilst the girl had ventured up into the higher floors every now and then she was still considered a low level player at level 10. Below her she heard a small soft whimpering and the girl glanced down. Below her a small orange and yellow dog-like creature with black stripped markings on its back was looking up at her anxiously. Kitty smiled slightly and jumped back down to the ground. The dog barking happily as she knelt down to cuddle it.

She’d received the companion up on floor six, which was about as high as she’d gone about a month ago and although he was still a puppy and small she'd been told he'd grow to be very big and intimidating if she leveled him up enough even though she was happy with the way he was now. She’d named him Beau and they’d stuck to the lower levels since then. Kitty understood some’s desire to advance, however she didn’t feel she was aggressive or skilled enough to be of any use to the front line. But there was hope. She’d heard that there was a gathering up on floor five asking for higher level players to come down to try and help with the problem. For now all they had to do was survive. “We just have to keep surviving.” She repeated aloud as she ruffled Beau’s fur, burying her face into his fur as he licked her.

Belle practically stopped in her tracks, her body tensing as her ears and tail stuck for a moment before she took a few sharp steps away from him, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. Now she felt like an idiot. It had been so obvious but she’d just missed it completely, too drawn in by the innocent exterior. But all the cuddling… that questions about game sex. “Creep.” She stated loudly before she brought up her menu and quickly logged out. They were within the town boundaries by now, so she didn’t have to worry about her avatar being attacked at least.

Avery bolted upright in her bed, ripping the NervGear off her head and pulling her knees up to her chest, shuddering slightly as she picked up the gear and placed it away in her draw. She’d heard of creeps like that before from other players, people who only played to get some kind of sick sexual satisfaction because they were probably too creepy to foster a relationship in real life. But she hadn't thought it would happen to her. For a while the girl contemplated reporting him, but it was late so she decided to just sleep it off and think about it clearly in the morning.
Alaska declared that they were leaving and South staggered back slightly as the door closed. Outside everything was loud but to her it all sounded fuzzy, like she was underwater. Her eyes were glued to Cal as he lay there in a pool of blood. Iowa had stopped the bleeding but that didn’t stop the images from flashing through her mind. She felt a hand on her shoulder suddenly and looked up to see North. Slowly the girl stood, unsteadily, her brother’s firm footing the only thing keeping her upright as he led her into the cockpit.

“I want you to stay up here, okay?” He knew how distressing it was for her, seeing a teammate injured like that for the first time. However he was surprised when all she did was nod back and sit down, strapping herself in. North was hesitant about leaving her up here, but Alaska was there so it wasn’t like she was alone and he needed to get secured in case they ran into trouble. Making his way back he moved quickly to help Iowa. “We should get him strapped down so he doesn’t move too much.” He said, looking worriedly at Cal.

Theoretically this had been a successful mission, they’d achieved their objective. But if they lost someone… it hardly felt worth it. He felt a small surge of anger bubble up, but quickly suppressed it. Apart from situations involving his sister North rarely let anger cloud him. It rarely helped anything. “You’ll be alright.” He said softly as they got Cal secured. There wasn’t much to do now except sit around and wait. There was this ominous silence that filled the hull as they made their way back to The Mother of Invention.
I'm going to be away for the weekend, i'll post tomorrow morning to cut lose ends, if i can.

I think we can wait for you ^_^
The Mantis is Freckles isn't it?
South felt a small wave of relief when she saw Team Two appear at the hanger door, this quickly vanished when she saw the fire they were under, however fear took hold of her and she could do little more than stand there as they made their way aboard and Cal was pulled aboard the ship bleeding heavily. Everything seemed to move slower for her, her eyes fixed on the man as blood slipped onto the floor. Bullets were still flying in their direction and all she could do was stand there, useless.

North turned his head slightly as the room behind them exploded with noise. He looked back to Alaska for a moment and nodded his head at her. “I’m gonna go help them.” He informed her as he left the cockpit, trusting Alaska to do what she did best. She was more than competent to get them out of there. He grabbed his gun as he made his way to the entrance of the pelican and did what he did best, though he was limited by the reload time of the sniper even his accuracy wasn’t making more than a small dent in the enemy. However he was hoping it was enough to give the rest enough time to get to the ship.

At her brother’s appearance South finally drew herself out of her shock and slowly tugged at the gun at her hip, cocking it and aiming at the men at the other side of the hanger. Out of the corner of his eye North noticed her movements and turned to her for a moment. “What are you doing?!” He demanded.

South turned to look at him for a moment and then back at the gun. “Helping.” She said, though she sounded uncertain of herself, as if she didn’t really know what she was doing. “You know my accuracy is almost as good as yours.” She said, trying to reassure herself more than anything else. Raising the gun again she put the enemy in her sights, her finger tensing over the trigger, however she couldn’t bring herself to shoot.

North was suddenly on her and he pressed her down, his body over the top like a shield as a shot flew right past where the girl had just been. Both of them remained silent for a moment as they looked at each other before North turned away and resumed shooting. “Stay down.” He told her, the voice sounding soft all of a sudden. "Come on Penn!" The softness was gone as her brother's voice roared across the hanger.
Kaya looked at him curiously, shaking her head slowly as he spoke. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but waited as the waitress returned with their food. She thanked the woman and then looked up at Bryant again curiously. “You have the strangest sounding friends.” She said, still trying to work it through in her head how Bryant fit into that group. She figured maybe it was more the individual relationships rather than the idea of a group that held them together, which she eventually decided sounded the most logical. They were a number of individual friendships who grouped together for convenience.

As such Bryant’s attraction wasn’t to the group as a whole, but the individuals within, despite his constant complaints about them. She eventually shrugged and turned her attention to her burger, peeling off the top bun as she began placing fries neatly onto the burger before putting the bun back on and taking a big mouthful. She glanced up at Bryant as she chewed and eventually swallowed and pointed a finger at him. “Don’t judge me.” She warned before smiling and taking another large bite out of the burger. He was right, they did make really good burgers here.
North nodded slightly to Wash and then again with Alaska told them where the evac location was. He turned to South who pulled a small device from the computer as the door opened and she turned to the unconscious men once more. She turned to the small panel on her arm and pressed a few buttons before her amour began changing colour until it matched the guards of the ship. “Ta-da!” She said as she quickly hurried after the boys as they made their way to the hanger. Whatever Group Two was doing, it was working well enough.

They made it to the hanger without any other encounters, South returning to her normal amour colour to avoid confusion and potentially being shot at by her own team mates and North quickly made his way up to the cockpit to check in with Alaska. South stayed close to the entrance of the ship, watching out anxiously. She could hear loud sounds outside the hanger, no doubt results of the chaos and distraction Team Two were causing. She hoped they were all okay.
