I'm working right now and won't be home for another four hours, but I have the next two days off so I'll be able to help brainstorm then.

Leander "Lee" Datchery
21|5'9|B+

A P P E R A N C E

Standing at 5'9, Lee is a bit shorter than the typical male WARDEN, and his somewhat slight build would suggest that he isn't a front-line soldier. He's built more lean and compact than most, having a more agile body instead of the usual bulky build expected of him; speed and endurance is more his style, making him capable of moving more freely. His light brown hair is medium in length and reaches down to his shoulders, but he usually keeps it up in a messy makeshift pony tail that would make most people look unkept, but he somehow pulls it off and makes it look good. His eyes are a bright green, and there is the slightest hint of a smattering of freckles on his lightly tanned face. He's mostly clean shaven, but will let his sideburns grow out a bit when he can get away with it, which is almost never. His facial features could be said to be a bit soft and borderline androgynous.

When not in the WARDEN uniform, he tends to dress fashionably but casually. Dress shirts and smart casual pants, usually in bold blue and black colors with a white undershirt and nice leather shoes. No matter the current fashion trend though, he's always wearing his favorite blue jacket with a white trim.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

An extroverted young man with a mischievous streak, Lee (which he prefers to go by instead of his full first name) is the outgoing comic that every friend group has that is either loved by his friends or easily annoyed by him. His smart mouth has gotten him into trouble more than once, and he has a habit of talking just a little too much at times. He cares more about having fun and amusing himself than anything serious like combat or military tactics, and can be incredibly lazy at times, preferring to procrastinate rather than get any real work done. As a result, he'd often get overall low marks in many of his courses, which is a shame since he's actually quite brilliant. Judging by his disposition, laziness, and apparent lack of common sense, he would come off as an idiot to most, but he somehow would score incredibly high on both academic and physical tests, on par with the geniuses of his fellow trainees. He has a natural know-how to many things, and anytime he manages to actually pay attention to his studies he always remembers it all to the smallest details. Not only that, but he has the ability to think fast and creatively, if the situation ever calls for it. He could be among the top of his class if he wanted, but he just doesn't care for such a position. Besides, he seriously loathes responsibility, and will avoid it whenever he can.

He very much has a "go with the flow" attitude, but isn't one to hold back on giving his two cents if he feels like it, to the point that he can be annoyingly opinionated. However, he likes to make people laugh and feel good, even if it comes at his own expense, and is reliable in the sense that he can be your best buddy if you need him to. If the mood gets a little too grim for his taste, he'll try to find a way to lighten the situation. He's a very playful person and a borderline flirt, though he tends to avoid crossing lines and being obnoxious, very much preferring innuendo and wordplay. His sarcasm has been known to leave metaphorical whelps to any who don't expect it, especially since many of his usual quips aren't ones to sting. If someone ever manages to hit a personal issue with him, he'll try to laugh it off but be unable to hide the bite in his words for awhile. He rarely becomes angry, and has to be pushed to his absolute limits for his anger to fully come out.

In combat, he's still basically the same, but he can be serious if the situation becomes dire. Anytime Lee becomes serious, anyone he's working with just knows it's time to worry. He'll often let others take the lead in battle, and will only try to step up if he thinks it's necessary.

B A C K G R O U N D

Lee was born in a small fishing town known as Trayce. He never knew his parents, having been given up for adoption at an orphanage, Saint Marias', soon after birth. It wasn't something he thought about all that much though, it was just a fact of life for him as much as the fact that the sky was blue and gravity held people to the ground. He was never adopted during the ten years he spent in the orphanage, as he was a particularly rowdy child and was rude to any adults who came by, but that was ok, because Emily was there. She was a girl around his age, maybe a year older though no one was sure since the orphanage never received her birth records when she arrived. She was a sickly girl, bound to a wheelchair and abandoned on the building's front steps when she was about three or four years old. Lee didn't know what exactly was wrong with her, but he didn't care. All he knew was that the two of them always had fun and could talk to each other endlessly into the night. No potential adopters wanted to have to care for a sick kid who would likely die within a few years, so she was fated to have to stay there for all of her childhood years. But at least the two of them had each other.

At least, until they took the WARDEN exams. Emily scored well in the written and mental portions, but of course never had a chance of being recruited. Lee didn't even try to take it seriously, but someone must've seen his potential, as it was decided he would be taken to the Citadel. He of course didn't want to go, but it was Emily who managed to convince him not to struggle against it. She told him it was his chance to finally get out of the orphanage and that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. After all, not everyone had the aptitude to become a part of WARDEN. So he made a promise, that if he went along with it that he would come back after his service was over and get her out of the orphanage and find a place of their own. He didn't seem to understand at the time that he would be gone for a long time, and that they would both be adults by that time, but she couldn't break it to him and simply agreed, for his sake.

And so, Lee found himself in what he considered hell. He didn't like the training, he didn't like the studies, and he was hardly considered popular with the other kids. But he found solace in his pen pal, fortunately, as they wrote letters to each other weekly. Emily was really the only thing keeping him going for the first few years, and his motivation to keep his promise was what made him put in any effort as a WARDEN. But of course, it wasn't allowed to last. As his third year at the Citadel began to come to an end, word came around that a natural disaster had occurred that affected many shoreline towns and cities. A terribly strong tsunami had struck the shore, and caused deadly floods to overtake many of the populated areas. Lee remembered that day clearly, it was a Friday. Communication lines were down, so he couldn't call to hear what happened and if people were safe, if Emily was safe. So, he did the only thing he could do, and wrote a letter. He never received a response. For several weeks, he was just blank and hardly existent. He continued to send letters every Friday, despite never receiving responses, and eventually his mental health was called into question.

And then suddenly, something inside him snapped. He was back to normal, as if nothing had ever happened. Though "normal" may not have been the right word. He hadn't necessarily gone crazy, but anyone who knew him (which at this point, wasn't a whole lot of people) could tell he was clearly and obviously different. He was a lot more social and outgoing, and tended to try to be the center of attention. This change couldn't be explained by the psychological counselors, but they the best they could come up with was that it was a method of coping for him. Though what worried them more was what they considered wasted potential with him. He was clearly smart if one were to go by his test scores, he excelled well in physical courses despite his somewhat smaller stature compared to the majority of his peers, and he appeared to have a strong connection to the Astral Mist. Yet he just didn't care to improve himself, despite all of his potential. He may not have been as anti-social and blank anymore, but even as a goof off he still wasn't putting in the effort his instructors knew he was clearly capable of. He never just gave up, sure, but he would only ever do the bare minimum asked of him. In a word, it was frustrating.

There was one incident in his later years, however, that changed things for him. He and a couple buddies decided they would pull a prank, and of course, they were caught. Though they weren't easily found out, and the only reason anyone they were found out was because Lee stepped forward so that the others wouldn't be punished. But surprisingly to him, he wasn't punished either, at least not severely. Without getting into specifics, what he'd considered a simple prank abled by basic spells, was seen as a tactical trap that wouldn't be out of place on the battlefield. It was this incident that finally helped one instructor realize what was needed to help him realize his full potential: creative outlets. He would be taught the usual courses, but time would be set aside afterward for him to use what he learned. He would be challenged to use his knowledge in unorthodox ways, sometimes in certain ways that only he really understood. His marks improved, but at this point it was too late to get him into Second Class and was set as a Third Class WARDEN. His general aversion to being a leader, past signs of emotional instability, and spending most of his WARDEN career caring more about pranks and jokes than his classes was what ultimately held him back, but wasn't like he minded to be honest. Though he was told that if he performed well on the battlefield, he could potentially rank up the Second Class in due time.

Lee isn't a powerhouse fighter, though he defintely isn't a physical slouch either. Being lean and incredibly agile, he's proficient at being able to move around quickly and strike fast. His weapon of choice is a serrated chain whip, which is connected to a steel gauntlet on his right arm for easy accessibility and storage. An often underestimated weapon, the whip isn't particularly destructive, but in his deft hands it can be deadly. It can allow him to strike at enemies from up to a medium range, keeping him out of typical immediate danger and giving him breathing room in case the situation doesn't go in his favor. He can also use it to constrict enemies and latch onto objects. For a secondary weapon, he carries a sidearm pistol for when his whip doesn't cut it, and he has decent enough skill with it to shoot down enemies from far distances with accuracy.

For magic, he relies mainly on support and minor healing. His spells revolve around phsyics: allowing him to make weapons sharper or duller, armor harder and denser or softer and squishier, and grant allies faster and lighter mobility or foes slower and heavier movement, though those are only basic examples. He has some healing capabilities, but only enough to ease pain and stop wounds from bleeding until a more experienced healer can arrive. One particular spell he's fond of allows him to give people what amounts to an artificial adrenaline rush, though it's ethical use for casting on allies is considered murky, and as such he doesn't use it often, despite being one of his favorite spells. He's dabbled in offensive magic, but never cared to pick any of it up. Let the others cast their fireballs, he much prefers giving others the support needed to unleash their more devastating attacks.

One final skill set of his is the ability to set up traps. Gone are the days where he used this uncanny ability to pull pranks (for the most part), as he now uses them against foes. Give him enough time to plan and set it up, and he'll get it done as long as you let him have fun and go wild with it.

Setzer- Lee has tried to get to know him in the past but could never get a good read on him. He's tried to see how far he can go with jokes and teasing, but there's an unspoken social barrier between them. However, he has a lot of respect towards Setzer for having so much commitment and drive when he can't draw up the same for himself.

Gideon- Their relationship is both complicated and simple. Their shared tactical interests mean that they can work together in unique ways, but they mouth off to each other so much that, to an outsider, it would look like they hate each other. But ultimately it's all in good fun, as there's nothing quite like having a buddy you can talk shit with and not have to worry about offending each other. It's always satisfying to them when a plan of theirs comes together.

Theta- Lee met Theta through tutoring on healing magic. Her quiet and calm disposition meant he never got to talk to her much before then, but he was surprised and intrigued to see her "other" side on the combat training field, and has since spent more time with her outside of studies and tutoring. He's dropped hints that he likes her, though he's almost entirely sure she's never picked up on it (unfortunately).

Galahad- Probably the one person Lee loves to mess with the most. He's constantly trying to get reactions out of him and break his seemingly aloof and analytical demeanor, even if only for a moment. He's even flirted with him on more than one occasion to get a rise out of him, though it's a mystery whether he actually meant any of it or not. He's lost more "battles" than won against him though.

Zimmy- Their likeness has caused something of both a friendship and low-key rivalry between them. If they're not collaborating on a prank or joke, then they're constantly trying to outdo the other in any way they can, and in that way he respects her as someone who can best him. Most of their peers know to be wary when they manage to work together. Zimmy was the one who recommended Theta as a tutor.

Daryll- Lee sees him a jarringly nice and normal guy who seems out of place as a WARDEN. They easily became friends and joke around often, with Daryll being somewhat of his right-hand man when pulling pranks. They have the occasional sparring match, but Lee will more often than not mess around, for instance by turning Daryll's gunblade into nothing more than a foam sword for shits and giggles.

Trent- Trent was one of the few of his fellow peers who noticed his depression, and would always try to cheer him up. Lee was appreciative once he'd had time to move on and get out of his funk, and saw him as a close friend and generally nice guy after that. He recruited him a bit too often for his pranks and would get him into trouble, but with the intention of trying to get him to go out more and have fun. Lee feels a little protective of him at times.

None as of now.

Hoo, CS has been submitted by PM. Now I'm looking at the other characters and seeing the overlap. -.-

I've noticed it as well with my character, haha. I guess it's a good thing that I didn't finish my character right away, it's let me get a gauge on the characters and how much and how little is ok for a character's skills and potential combat prowess.
I see, thank you. I've been looking through some pictures but couldn't really find anything, so it's good to know I don't have to use one. I'll probably have my character finished by sometime tonight, so I'll send it in once I'm happy with it.
Just read everything and it all looks really interesting! I checked the site on a whim after being gone for a while, and I'm glad I did because I definitely want to join this. I have a character planned, but I have a couple questions first.

Do you have to use a picture in the CS? I've never been good at trying to match a picture to the idea in my head, and would prefer just writing out the appearance if that's ok.

And are multiple characters per person allowed? I'm not necessarily saying I want to create a second character right now, but if I get inspired at some point later down the road is it ok to make another?
"Yeah, we should probably head over to the Cafeteria now," Jamie agreed. Ray nodded in agreement as well. With that, the group decided to leave, and began to go over to the Cafeteria.
__________

"Agreed," Andrea replied to Kadian's suggestion, "Let's go." The three girls followed Percy to the entrance, only to see that it was blocked by a large metal door.

"That's right, the Hacker..." Andrea began to speak, "Andrew was his name, right? We should definitely tell him about this during the meeting."

"Could it really be that easy?" Sydney asked, "That dumb bear didn't make a rule against it, but that makes escaping way too easy." She looked around the entrance way, and suddenly gasped as her eyes opened wide. She nudged Andrea in the side, and then pointed at an object hanging quite a bit above the metal door.

"Ah..." Andrea stated simply, "That explains it." The object looked like a machine gun turret of some sort, and one that was likely automated at that.

"Jesus..." Sydney muttered under her breath, both because of seeing the machine gun, and also from wondering how Andrea could be so calm.
__________

"We should definitely let Bryan know. But, are you good to move on your own?" Marcus asked Elliot, "Most people might feel disoriented after passing out like you did. But if you're alright, I have no complaints."
__________

"You're worried about the cameras, right?" Sasha asked Cecelia quietly, eyeing one of the cameras nervously.

"I heard that!" Monobear's shrill voice exclaimed over the intercom, causing Sasha to jump. "I meant it when I said that these microphones pick up everything you say!"

"Jeez, he wasn't kidding about being able to eavesdrop on us," Steven said, shaking his head, "I wonder if there's any place in this school that doesn't have a camera."

"Maybe the others found a room like that," Sasha suggested, "It's getting close to our meeting time, hopefully they'll have some good news for us."
Well, I'm not dead. Hopefully my post is alright, and doesn't mess anything up or seem too overpowered.
Reid never got to hear Red's response. Several groups of demons had descended upon them all, so whatever plan they had now wasn't going to be all that useful. Oh well. Reid figured that at least they were on an even playing field here out in the open. Sure there were buildings nearby, and yes, having some cover would be nice, but being able to see where all your enemies were was still somewhat comforting. And hey, more open space meant more movement. That was perfect for Reid's style of combat.

"Hey Red, let me deal with these, you take care of any that manage to get past me or try to get the jump on me!" Reid called out to her, stepping forward as they did so to face one of demon groups. There were three groups total, with a few stragglers as well. The other hunters were taking care of two of the groups, so Reid decided to take on the last group of five. To be honest, they usually didn't try to take on so many demons in a full on fight, but they felt confident enough that everything would be just fine, thanks to Red providing back up.

Unholstering their two revolvers, Reid took aim at the quickly incoming group, and began firing. Due to the demons being clustered together, they all managed to take quite a few hits, though some shots still managed to miss (hey, dual-wielding revolvers wasn't exactly the most accurate set up), and none of them were killed and at most were just slowed down. One demon who had been least injured took the lead, and jumped up into the air to dive at Reid, claws flared and ready to tear them apart. Reid responded quickly by using a Wind Boost to quickly blow themselves backward and away from the attacker. The demon simply fell onto the ground and stumbled a bit, having missed its mark entirely, to which Reid took advantage of by planting two shots into its skull. Alright, only four left.

Reid didn't stop to celebrate, and immediately began to run and try to strafe around the remaining demons and began firing at them once more. There was once again a comfortable distance between the eccentric hunter and the demons due to the earlier Wind Boost, and the gap between them didn't close as fast this time due to the group being injured and slowed down. Besides, these were Ravagers, they were basically the grunts of the demon species. Though obviously still more powerful than a human, they were still all too susceptible to heavy gunfire. One demon lost use of an arm, another their leg, having taken too many bullets to their limbs by this point to have any strength left in them. One demon eventually took a bullet to the head, finally killing it off. Nice, three left to go.

"Red, think you can finish them off?" Reid shouted back to their team mate. There wasn't a reply. "Red?" Reid risked a quick peek behind over their shoulder to see what was holding the woman up, but saw nobody there.

"Son a bitch tit!" Reid swore loudly. She fucking abandoned them! What the hell!? Where did she even go? God damn it! And now the demons were closing in way too fast, despite their injuries the group was just too desperate for a meal to pass up attacking Reid to instead nurse their wounds. What's worse, is that the hunter couldn't use their Wind Boost spell yet to dodge the group either, as it needed a little more time before it could be used again. Thinking fast, Reid let their right revolver hang at their side, aimed their Grappling Hook at a nearby building, and fired. The hook latched onto the roof, and its owner began to zip away towards it. However, a demon jumped at and grabbed onto Reid's leg at the last second, sinking its claws into their leg. They let out a yell and tried to shake the demon off, but to no avail.

A second or so later, they were flying onto the building's roof. The crashing fall managed to force the demon to let go, but it also caused Reid to get the wind knocked out of them. How ironic. Wheezing a bit, they raised their left revolver just as the demon tried to lunge at them again, and fired a single shot into its head. The demon crashed into them, making them fall on their back, but the demon was pretty much incapacitated now. With a grunt, they shoved the demon's twitching body off of them, and shot it in the head once more, confirming the kill. Great, just two left now.

"Damn," Reid sighed, "That was way too close." They took the brief moment of peace as an opportunity to check on their leg. Fortunately, the demon had mostly only managed to tear into the legging and padding around their calf, with only a slight bloody gash on the underside of it. Though they were going to have to bandage that up soon, it was still extremely lucky, Reid could have easily lost a leg there. The under armor and padding they wore was really paying off. It made them look...thicker, than they really were, but the extra protection was worth it.

Enough of that though, the scratching noises Reid was starting to hear indicated that the last two demons were trying to climb up the side of the building. Limping slightly, Reid holstered their left revolver and brought out a simple pistol as they walked over to the roof's edge. All that was needed was a few good accurate shots, power didn't really matter at this point. Looking over the edge, they could see the two demons struggling to climb up the wall. Reid fired at the one on the left, the first shot narrowly missing its hand, the second piercing its shoulder, and the third finally striking its head, causing the demon to fall off the building. The last demon was near the top, but Reid just fired two shots, one hitting its chest and the other in the head, finally killing it off as it fell as well.

"Whew..." Reid let out a sigh of relief as they stepped back and sat down, "That sucked really bad. I need to find more reliable team mates. Preferably someone who doesn't leave me to die." Speaking of which, now was probably better than any other time to start bandaging up their wound, so they got right to it. In the distance, they could see that a group of hunters were beginning to team up. Reid wondered if they should go up to the group, and decided to just watch them for now to see what they were up to.
Jamie may not have been the biggest fan of bugs, but it made her glad to see Rose smile. The Entomologist obviously loved bugs, but there likely weren't too many others at this school that shared her interests, and that fact seemed to make her sad. But Jamie wasn't going to let her, or anyone else, feel sad or upset if she could help it.

"I don't mind at all," Jamie smiled back, "Well, I love my career, but I also like to sketch and paint. I'm not very good at it, I'm definitely not in the running for Ultimate Artist, but it's fun."

During this, the group had begun exploring the Infirmary. Jamie looked inside the fridge, and found blood bags inside of it.

"I guess it's not a normal fridge," Jamie noted, "The fridge isn't freezing cold, so it's probably just being used as an insulator or something, to keep it at just the right temperature."

Ray meanwhile took a peek inside the bathroom, and confirmed that it was indeed just a regular bathroom.

"I-I think that's everything..." Ray said to the others after closing the bathroom door once more, "D-Did anyone find a-anything interesting...o-or even a secret?"
__________

"Yeah seriously, you're wasting your time Percy," Sydney agreed with Kadian, "There isn't gonna be anything over there. Unless you like looking at locked up entrances or something." It didn't seem to matter though, as Percy still decided to walk off to the entrance anyway. Sydney sighed. It wasn't like she wasn't expecting that.

"...You two can head to the Cafeteria while I follow him," Andrea suggested, "Just to keep an eye on him. Or the three of us can follow him. Or the three of us can just ditch him and head to the Cafeteria. I'm good with any of those three options."

Sydney shrugged. "I don't care either way. I just want to hurry this exploration stuff along already." She looked over to Kadian. "It's your call, I guess."
__________

"You really didn't do this?" Bryan asked Elliot, "How'd this stuff get in here then? Unless, Monobear..." Angela left to check her room to see if it had been set up as well, and when she returned, she confirmed everyone's suspicions.

"Hmm..." Marcus said, a hand on his chin in thought, "Monobear has way more power than we thought."

"Uggghhhh," Bryan groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose "This is seriously pissing me off! How the hell can that little creep even take our stuff like that...Crap! That means he touched my stuff too!" Bryan rushed out of the room and over to his own room after that.

"He...might be awhile," Marcus spoke up, "We've still got time until the meet up. Should we check out the Trash Room?"
__________

"Me? Sick in the head? Whatever gave you that idea?" Monobear asked innocently in reply to Andrew. It flinched (and so did Steven and Sasha) when it looked like Andrew was going to kick him, but Cecelia stopped him in time.

"Y-You should be more careful!" Sasha exclaimed with worry, "Cecelia's right, he's trying to get us angry! If you'd hit him, he might've punished you!"

"Not might have, I would have! Bwahaha!" Monobear laughed, "I have no choice but to punish rule breakers. I can't harm a single hair on your pretty little heads otherwise!" Sasha took note that Monobear appeared to be a stickler for the rules, but didn't say anything out loud about it.

"Either way, Monobear, you need to get out of here already," Steven affirmed what Andrew had told the bear.

"Awwww, how rude," Monobear pouted, "Whatever. I guess I'll leave you losers alone for now. I was just super bored and wanted to talk to four of my favorite students, but oh well." It disappeared after that, finally leaving them alone.

"God, I hate that thing," Steven sighed.

"Ditto," Sasha nodded.
"Th-Thank you, I-I hope I can find it, e-eventually..." Ray replied to Claude, his mood a little better due to their optimism.

After that, it was decided for the group to next head over to the Infirmary. They left the Storage Room, and as they walked, Jamie began to strike up a conversation with Rose.

"You know, I've got a lot of respect for you, Rose," she told her, "It's really nice to see someone so excited about something they love. The way your eyes brighten up when you talk about bugs and insects is quite a sight. I might be a bit uncomfortable about that kind of stuff, but seeing your love for it is really impressive."

As they talked, the group made it to the Infirmary pretty quickly. Ray opened the door for everyone again, and they entered the room. It looked like a typical school Nurse room. There were several beds, a medicine cabinet, a set of drawers with medical supplies, a medical refrigerator, a couple spare wheelchairs, and a bathroom.

"W-Wow..." Ray mumbled, "E-Everything here looks f-fully stocked..."
_____

"Yeah, that's really weird," Sydney agreed with Kadian, "And you're right, we're probably not going to find anything at this rate."

"Well, technically we did find something," Andrea told Sydney, "Regardless of whether or not it's a meaningless small detail, it's still a piece of information we've learned that we didn't know of before."

After that, the four of them went back to exploring the rest of the classrooms. As predicted, there was nothing new in any of them, but it was noticeable that all of them seemed to be exactly the same. Was it all just an incredible amount of attention to detail, courtesy of Monobear? Or was it because of something else, something that they couldn't think of that was realistically possible?

Either way, once they finished with the last classroom, they all exited and stood in the hallway together.

"Well, that's all of them," Sydney said, stretching a bit, "I guess we should head to the Cafeteria now, right?"
_____

Bryan raised an eye brow when Angela suggested that Elliot had decorated his room. "That would mean he'd been here ahead of time," he told her, "That'd be pretty suspicious."

Marcus had the slightest looks of a smile when Angela told him it wasn't a problem to help. Elliot woke up soon after, to which Marcus was glad to see. He personally was hoping this was all just a nightmare as well, though he knew that he wasn't dreaming and that this was all real.

"Don't worry, you aren't a burden," Marcus told him, "It's understandable, what happened back there."

"Besides, anyone can be helpful. You can help us now, actually," Bryan spoke up, "Did you set up all these personal effects? Your room looks very personalized, even though none of us should've been here before now, outside of taking a school tour of course."

Marcus wondered if the other rooms were personalized to each student as well. It was possible that Monobear had done it, but then the major question would be: how did Monobear get their things?
_____

"Whaaaaaaaat?" Monobear dramatically said in shock, in response to Andrew's question, "How dare you accuse me of attempting to poison and drug my students! I would never lay a single paw on any of you or hurt any of you in any way! Well, except for cases where I have to hand out a punishment. Upupupu..."

"W-Why should we trust what you say?" Sasha asked cautiously, having came into the kitchen as well, "You want to kill us!"

"Nuh uh uh," Monobear denied, wagging a claw at Sasha, "I don't want to kill any of you. I just want you bastards to murder each other."

"Is there really a difference there?" Steven asked, eyes wide, "Either way, you want us dead."

"It's the method that matters," Monobear replied, its grin somehow growing wider, "What kind of despair is there in just mindlessly killing helpless kids? You know what's really despair-inducing? Watching the symbols of a country's hope murder each other for their own selfish gain! Ooh, it's getting me in a tizzy just thinking about it!"
