Martha & Annie
" I suggest you take a few steps back, 'less you wanna spend the better half of yer evenin' puttin' yer face back together."
Martha is not the buffest or tallest of women, but she does hold quite the height, standing in at around five-foot-ten. She prefers utility over beauty, made clear by the raggedy old clothing she can be seen wearing most of the time. While her boots may be tattered and worn through years of use, they're gotten her through the days, and that's more than she can say about any newer pair of heels she's bought, per the request of her younger travel buddy. Annie has a much cleaner way of dressing herself. She can oftentimes be seen wearing a white dress, the sleeves short and puffy. Martha has made it a point to keep Annie as comfortable as possible, the quality of the little girl's dresses showing that. When they stand side by side, it's like a beautiful, porcelain vase set next to a.. Cracked and ancient clay pot.
Age:
30s ( Annie is around ten-twelve )
Gender:
Woman
Occupation:
While Martha is currently ' unemployed ' and lives simply off of crimes, She has had her fair share of jobs in the past. From a store clerk, all the way down to a farmhand. She isn't a stranger to getting paid to do things. Are you runnin' for office and need competition eliminated? Leave the money on the counter. Need protection for your child? Yes sir. Need her to steal money that you felt was rightfully yours after your sibling inherited it in your mothers will after her death? Well.. You get the idea.
Abilities:
N/A
Skills:
Her job as a farmhand wasn't just for the money, but for the experience. Without knowin' it, her boss basically taught her everything she needs for her life of crime. How to rope animals, now used to rope people. How to use a gun for huntin', now used for burglary and other things. While the majority of her skills lie in causing hell for others, there are some talents she picked up from caring for Annie. How to cook, clean.. How to.. Knit.. Even learned how to sing. Is she a bit rough at it? Maybe. But anything sounds good with a country accent, bottle of whiskey and a guitar.
Personality:
Martha is very a cold and dangerous outlaw, who often resorts to threats and violence as a way to get what she wants, and has very few second thoughts about killing. She can be completely emotionless and unsympathetic to the people she harms when at her worst. Despite being capable of committing such violence, She does have a more playful and humorous side to her personality that comes out when she's around Annie. She isn't above cracking a few jokes, making sarcastic remarks, or anything else that a not-murdery person would do.
While she is able to commit great acts of violence without remorse, Martha does have her own moral codes and rules. If anything she is about to do could possibly cause Annie to be in harms way, she will most likely avoid that act. It is clear that Martha isn't a total monstrous person, as she will avoid harming children, anyone with children, or anyone around children.
Their appearances aren't the only contrasts between Martha and Annie, as they couldn't be any more different personality wise. Though the little girl is unaware of how truly awful her caretaker can be, if she were aware, it is to be assumed she wouldn't agree with Martha's way of ' gettin' stuff done. ' Annie is a very caring, happy and charismatic person, as to be expected of a twelve year old girl. She can come off as naïve, gullible and easily trusting, as described by Martha. While this may be the case, Annie isn't stupid. She is a very intelligent little lady and it's clear Martha has taught her right.
Biography:
Not much is known about the woman's backstory, as she prefers to keep her private details.. private. However, the legacy she left is known throughout her hometown. An infamous outlaw by the name Martha Lee Dunn. The folk of her town have taken to calling her ' Calamity ', a title fitting of her dangerous reputation. More often than not, Martha will be seen travelling along side a young girl, a brunette named Annie. It is unknown whether they are biologically related, however the motherly nature exhibited by the outlaw when around Annie is clear to see.
Now.. You might be askin', " Why is an outlaw walking around with a child? " For that to be answered, you just got to ask Martha yourself.
Likes:
Given her moral code, it is to be assumed that Martha might have a sort of motherly liking towards all children. She can often times be seen going out of her way to do little things for them, such as provide them with breads, some money, or even the clothing off her back. The only thing that matches her motherly urges, is her urge to splurge. Whatever money she gets from jobs, likely goes towards stuff for Annie; Clothing, food, toys, the such. However, there are times where she does enjoy treating herself, visiting the local saloon every weekend.
Dislikes:
Lots of things.. Most of which revolve around her protectiveness of Annie. Martha will most likely chop your fingers off and serve them to the homeless if you are to even try and touch Annie. This dislike goes for herself as well, as she can often be seen physically recoiling in sheer ' the fucking audacity ' and disgust when touched by strangers, or even people she knows. The only person who can actually get close to her is, obviously, Annie. And maybe whatever lover she somehow picks up. Also snakes.
Fears:
Despite giving off that ' I fear nothing!! ' vibe, Martha fears a lot. Anything that the caretaker of a child would fear. Scared of not showing Annie enough love. Scared that Annie will grow up to be a horrid person like herself. A fear that doesn't have to do with Annie is the fear of snakes. She was bit by one when she was younger, and has held a grudge ever since.
Weaknesses:
Martha pretty much has the same weaknesses as every other human. Not incredibly strong, so she can easily be overpowered by someone stronger. Not incredibly fast, so she can be caught if she's not careful. Though her physical weaknesses are plenty, there is one weakness in particular that could easily break her. It's tied to her love for Annie. A scenario might make this easier to explain. Say you're holding Annie for ransom, threatening to kill the girl if Martha comes in guns blazing. You now have the outlaw at your mercy, as she'd do everything you wanted for Annie's safety.
Other:
I will be roleplaying as two characters most of the time when using Martha, but I will make it distinguishable by using colors for the characters. For example, Annies actions and words will be like blue. ( I.E: Annie quirked a brow and leaned in. " No bitches? " ) I might not use a color for Martha.
Theme Song:
" Gunpowder And Lead " by Miranda Lambert
