Yep! ;)
Of course, you don't have to go through it.....but I'm guessing we all will!
Name:
April May Norton

Age:
20

Appearance:

Faction:
Civilian

Job:
She works at the town's local IT store (you know, where you buy your TVs, cell phones, etc)

Bio:
April May's parents were both born and bred in the town, and the family have existed there for generations. She has remained purposefully ignorant of the goings on of the town throughout her childhood, instead preferring to concentrate on her studies, despite the subtle hints her parents have dropped to her to start taking an interest in protecting the town from Vampires. She suspects both her parents were involved in actively seeking out Vampire [they were both, in reality, Protectors].
When she left school, she applied and was accepted at a small college, a few towns over, where she studied electronics and computer technology for a couple years. Like most people, she stumbled straight out of college and struggled to find a job, and, broke, she moved back in with her parents.
She had quite forgotten the little 'Undead' problem the town suffered from.
She got a job at the local electronics store and has worked there, ever since, attempting to save enough money to get her own place - far away from this town. Her parent are still attempting to convince her of the evilness of vampires, but she'd rather not acknowledge their existence.

Personality:
April May is a computer geek, through and through. The stereotypical nerd, she often sits listening to conversation, her eyes blinking rapidly behind her glasses, as she processes a person's response and categorising them; you may call it judgemental, but she calls it forming an opinion based on the empirical evidence in front of her.
She isn't very girly - she enjoys her own company and regularly zones out when in the presence of others, unless they have captured her attention. She has a macabre sense of humour and on the rare occasion she cracks a vampire joke, her parents erupt in anger - she doesn't exactly share their sense of humour. She often finds serious situations quite funny.

Family/Relationships:
The usual. Parents. No siblings. Annoying grandparents, that are also against Vampires; in fact, they have stake ornaments cluttering the coffee table. Needless to say, April May doesn't visit them often, despite the fact that they live down the road.

Weapon(s) :
Does her laptop count? She could probably hack a few systems with it.

Other:
She has regular routine; every morning, she eats breakfast at the local café before she starts her shifts at the electronics store. Every evening, she takes her dog - a black Labrador called Jeff - for a walk through town (and every evening, her parents warn her not to stray from the street lamps or go near the forest).
We're close, guys..........
The year is 2030.

The earth is not much different from today - apart from a few scientific discoveries and development in disease treatment and household technologies. Apart from them. Mutants. Beings, who look and act like ordinary human beings, but can do things that normal people could only ever imagine or dream of. Rumours fly around, whispering that they can start fires using only their minds, control metal and even rifle through our deepest, darkest thoughts and expose them to the world. Not much is known about them...only the cause; a mysterious 'X' gene, not inherited from parents, that lies within their DNA.

The discovery came in 2024. It came in the form of Javier Mikelson, who was representing Germany in the Olympic games at the time. He won a Gold medal whilst competing men's 1,000m and while on the winner's podium, he erupted into flames, stunning the whole crowd into silence. Mayhem ensued but Javier seemed fine and was even filmed laughing, as the general public scrambled to escape the arena. Needless to say, the YouTube video went viral.

And so the phenomenon of mutants was revealed to the world. Your neighbour, your closest friend could be one. There was an initial period of excitement; people flocked to see Javier and others, encouraged by the positive reception, revealed their own gifts. But then Javier killed 6 year old Yasmin Codde.

It was an accident, he claimed. The curious child had gotten too close in one of Javier's demonstrations and he hadn't been entirely in control. It was the red light the government needed. Panic ensued and the mutants were quickly viewed with suspicion and fear. They were forced into hiding and the global scare forced governments to develop campaigns to document mutants, tag them, reveal them to the public. The scientist, Ike Orland, invented the first mutant suppressant; a discrete ankle bracelet that supressed the X gene and the powers that came with it.

Once again, the world was safe.

But an uprising is happening; mutants everywhere are sick of being repressed, of hiding in the shadows, of being blamed. Whispers of a rebellion hang thick in the air and the catalyst for such an event is just around the corner...
This RP is takes inspiration from the x-men films but no character from the series will feature in the RP. This purely builds on the basic concept from the series. You will play as one of the mutants (or a normal human) living in this setting and I'm hoping different people will have different views on the action taken by the government.

I am looking a fairly small group (around 10 people) of literate writers who would be willing to participate in this. This RP will be mid-casual so I expect a minimum of a good-sized paragraph per IC post, with decent spelling and grammar. If you have any further question, feel free to post below.

Not very original, I know, but you can't go wrong with a good, ol' mutants RP!
Thanks! ^_^
Pen darted up the flight of stairs and when she heard a couple of pairs of footsteps behind her, she was surprised. She didn't think anyone would actually take her seriously but she couldn't fail them now so she carried on. The stairs curved around a narrow bend and the light from the reception room was soon left behind, in favour of a stretch of shadows. It was cooler up here and cracks were slightly more obvious than in the flawless, polished entrance; paint was peeling at the bottom of the walls and a couple of wisps of cobwebs floated around.

Pen's grin dropped a fraction as she reached a large, imposing door, blocking the top step. Although the shadowed wood of the door itself seemed quite old, the handle was made from gleaming stainless steel and evidently new. She put her hand on it and almost cried out when the cool metal gave under it, swinging the door open. Someone's a little lax on security.

She slipped through it, leaving the door wide open for the others - if they actually follow her - and stepped out into the plain, white hallway, lit by buzzing fluorescents. Her shoes squeaked slightly on the tiled floor. She felt very out of place and a loud remark died on her lips. The corridor seemed empty but she could hear the faint whirring of machines operating. It didn't seem very light or friendly for a rock research centre - it reminded her more of a top-security prison. She walked forward, glancing back to see who was following her but not slowing her pace.
"Is he telling the truth?" Wesley stuttered as Pilot responded as promptly as ever, his vacant gaze unwavering.

Dr Good studied him for a few moments; he had worked with Pilot for nearly a year, now, and he had catalogued each and every one of Pilot's responses, studied them, analysed them. And he never tired of viewing his creation.

"No."

Dr Goode tried to stop the smile from tainting his thin lips - from softening the edges of his commands, which was not something he wished to make a habit of - but he couldn't help it. Grinning, he turned to Pilot, making no move to make the being more comfortable on the table.

"No. Correct. You didn't miss any."

He dragged a chair from a nearby desk and seated himself. He dropped his eyes to his clipboard and scribbled a few notes on Pilot's physique - all ticks. Wesley watched nervously, hovering at the edge of Dr Goode's vision.

"Rather than bother me, get the training equipment set up for Pilot. Pull some of the scientists from level 2 - no one's going to be doing anything in that department today and the kids probably don't even know how to climb the stairs - no, I expect today will be fairly quiet" he scoffed.

Wesley scurried off.

"Now, then Pilot; tell me a little about yourself. Let's start with...your age?"
Name:
Cara Looperson

Age:
25

Appearance (real photos please):

Job aboard the ship:
Cara is one of the space engineers on aboard that helped design and construct the space craft. She had astronaut training and was, therefore, employed on the satellite repair mission.

Background and personality:
Cara is something of a workaholic. She has worked obsessively in the space industry since she left school and has done little else; she has a small flat and no partner. Though young, she has managed to work her way through the ranks to gain a senior ranking - much to the annoyance of her peers - and has headed many large projects. Being a woman, she has had to adopt a harsh, efficient, organised personality to be take seriously in the male-dominated industry.
She instantly jumped at the chance to be part of the repair mission. Though trained to survive in a zero-gravity environment, she has never had chance to put her skills to the test. And the whole enterprise seemed like the perfect way to add another gold star to her list of academic achievements. She signed up - and, naturally, she always gets what she wants.
On a more personal level, she does not maintain close contact with her family. Her mother and father are both doctors and were disappointed that their daughter didn't follow in their footsteps, despite her huge salary and obvious success. They never hid this fact from her and affection was very rare in the Looperson household; arguably leading to Cara developing obsessive tendencies, such as a need to succeed and a discomfort with displays of emotion.
She is the personification of 'all work and no play'.

2 salvaged items from the ship:
(Assuming she's already wearing a space-suit, etc), a small rock with a common fossil imprinted in it - of sentimental value, representing one of her "first scientific discoveries" when she around 10 - and her tool kit for working on delicate equipment. She was using it when the alarm sounded and so merely scooped it up and took it with her.

Other information:
Though she doesn't show it, she sees the mission failure as her fault - after all, she helped design the space-craft.
Woo! Glad everyone's enjoying it!

Not read Maximum Ride - maybe I should give them a read :P - are those the ones by James Patterson?!
Hmmmm....I would say I prefer A or B - but it's ultimately up to you
And I shall grow them!
