Tokiko was chilling out at home. Since she had taken her exams, there was no need for her to go to class. Her father, an English Teacher, was home as well. Her father was making some lunch and Tokiko kept glancing out the window.

"The mailman isn't going to come any faster, sweetie." He said, sighing.

"I know, but I just want to get a letter...THE letter." Tokiko said, slouching in her chair. Her father ruffled her hair.

"I know they're going to let you in. It'll be fine." He said. He hummed a little, dreads swaying as he put together a salad.

"I agree," Nozomi said, putting on her trademark trenchcoat. "You've honed your skills as much as you can. I'm sure you made it in."

"Hey, did you cash that check? We need for the- um...important thing." Tokiko's father, Will said. Nozomi shot a glare at him.

You know you can't talk about surprises around her! Geez...

"What's the important thing?" Tokiko asked.

"It's...car insurance. Your father forgot to pay the car insurance." Nozomi said.

"Yeah! Car insurance!" Will said, a little too enthusiastically. Tokiko raised an eyebrow at her father, who was laughing awkwardly. Nozomi smacked her forehead.

Damnit, Will...

"Anyway, I'm going to the bank to pay for the...car insurance," Nozomi said moving towards the door.

"I wanna go too! There's a new sports store over by there, right? I need some new weights." Tokiko said, running after her.

"Fine, fine," Nozomi said. "Just hurry. I have a shift at the station after this, and I want to do this and make sure to have some of your father's lasagna before I go."

Tokiko nodded, and the two hopped into her mother's car to OraOra bank. When they pulled up into the parking lot, it looked busy, as usual. Nearby there was the store Willie's Sporting Stuff.

"Meet me by the car in 30 minutes, alright?" Nozomi said, getting out of the car. Tokiko nodded, and got out, running towards her favorite store.

I wonder if they have any new weights? Those 20-pound ones aren't cutting it anymore...I wonder how much a new one would cost...

Tokiko wandered throughout the store, admiring the workout and sports equipment.

It's almost time to meet up. Let me get my things and go...

Tokiko paid for a 30-pound kettlebell and carried it out. As she went towards her mother's car she heard a voice over a megaphone.

This is the Mustafu police department. Please come out with your hands up. I repeat, please come out with your hands up. You...and the Vigilante.

What's going on? There's police around the bank...No, no, no, no.

Tokiko took off her eyepatch.

S-surely she's back at the car, r-r-right?

Her left eye saw that her mother's car was empty. Her eyes widened, and she dropped the weight.

She's inside.
"Toki...Toki...Toki!"

Tokiko woke with a start.

"I'm up! I'm up!" she said, waving her arms around. When she looked she found her mother, Nozomi Chronos, in front of her. She was dressed in her usual black turtleneck, black pants and brown trenchcoat. Standard fare for a detective.

"Toki, you really shouldn't be falling asleep in public like that. W-What if someone tried to carry you off? A villain just attacked yesterday, for goodness sake!" her mother said.

"I didn't mean to...tests are draining..." Tokiko said sadly. Nozomi sighed and sat down next to her.

"I know, sweetie. I just want you to be careful. Its dangerous out here. Villains are everywhere," Nozomi said. "I just...I just don't want to find you while I'm working."

"I'll do my best to stay safe. Besides its hard to catch someone who can see ahead." Tokiko said, pointing to her eyepatch with a grin. Her mom chuckled and ruffled her hair.

"This much is true. Now...where did you get that jacket from?" Nozomi asked, pointing it out. The jacket had fallen next to her as she woke up. Tokiko glanced at the jacket.

"I...I don't know. Maybe a hero put it on me?" Tokiko replied. Her mother raised a suspicious eyebrow and held the jacket in her hand. It was a tan trenchcoat, with a few stains on it.

"Considering the size of this, it probably belongs to a student," Nozomi said, taking them out. She went through more of the pockets and found a dropper, a magnifying glass, and a folded piece of paper. She opened the paper, and quickly closed it, blushing a little.

"What's with kids these days..." Nozomi muttered, putting it into her pocket.

"What was it, Mom?" Tokiko asked.

"N-nothing you need to see dear," Nozomi said nervously. "Get your things and let's go home. Your dad's making dinner."

As Tokiko packed her bag, Nozomi's right eye began to have a silver mist come off of it. She stared at the bench, and Tokiko, and saw part of what had happened in the past 30 minutes, and how her daughter slept through it all. She scowled.

I really don't like the looks of that...Good thing she was asleep.

"I'm ready to go!" Tokiko said. Nozomi turned her quirk off and smiled. She picked up the lab coat off the bench. The two walked towards through the gate of UA towards their home.

"Hey Toki, whenever you find out whose coat this is...bring him over for dinner. I'd love to meet him." Nozomi said.

And interrogate him.

"Why should I invite some random guy over for dinner? That's weird. Weren't you just talking about staying safe?" Tokiko replied.

"Fine, fine. Then just introduce me. I want to meet the gentleman who put his jacket on the fair maiden. Who knows, maybe he'll be my son-in-law someday." Nozomi grinned, running towards the house. Tokiko chased after her.

"MOOOOOM~!"

Tokiko put her eye patch on and looked at her test. Everything had been answered properly and looked over again. She glanced around the room and saw many students still working.

Looks like I got done a little early. Only time will tell if that's good or bad.

She handed her test to a teacher and walked outside into a hallway. As she strolled by the window, she took in the scenery. Trees swayed in the breeze, and it was sunny outside.

Its really pretty out here. I hope I make it i-Who is that?

She noticed a bikini-clad hero, standing near the test room. She seemed to be guarding the area, after the chaos from the day before.

So she's what that guy was breathing hard over...Ugh.

Tokiko shook her head.

I wonder what her quirk is though...Well, if she works around here, I'll find out eventually.

Tokiko went outside made her way to the entrance and stopped.

Oh yeah, mom and dad wanted to pick me up today.

Her parents were quite concerned when they saw the newscast on TV. While Tokiko was more or less fine after the practical exam, they were worried about her safety. Her parents wanted to both pick her up and drop her off from school, but she had managed to convince them into letting her walk up there.

It's about 30 minutes before my family comes...

Tokiko sat under a nearby tree, looking out at the entrance.

You almost wouldn't believe they were attacked yesterday. It's just so warm and sunny and nice...

Tokiko's eyelids lowered, and she began to sleep.

Tokiko entered the test exam room, which already had a fair number of students inside. She scanned the room, looking for anything out of the ordinary. Some seemed relaxed, while others were desperately going over notecards. Tokiko herself felt at ease.

Tests are predictable. Robots aren't.

As she walked into room, she noticed a few eyes on her, and someone even pointed at her while whispering.

...the hell?

She lifted her eyepatch for a moment and looked at the whispering students. They quickly noticed and looked away.

What's that about?

She walked towards the back of the classroom to sit down. The back part of the room was sparse, and there was a young man staring out the window, breathing heavily. Tokiko sat near the middle of the row and looked at him, with mild curiosity.

What's out there? ...Do I even want to know?

"I bet she's reading that guy's mind! She did it on the news!" a voice nearby said.

Mind reading? News? How di-Oh. Oh no...

Tokiko put her face in her hands and remembered what she had done.

Yesterday, after completing the test, Tokiko limped out the front gate and soon found herself surrounded by a group of reporters.

Can't a girl limp in peace?

"Finally! A student! What did you see in there?" a reporter asked, shoving a microphone into her face.

"What?"

"There were reports of a- what are you doing?"

Tokiko took off her eyepatch. The misty aura coming off her left eye looked a little stronger than normal. The camera crew looked a little startled.

"Well...I didn't see too much. People were angry, and it was weird, so I went away from them. There was some song playing while it happened, too. I didn't know it was a villain, and I didn't see them. I was focused on the test. Oh, and I'm not injured, I just like wearing an eyepatch over my quirk. So Barbara, do you have any more questions?"

"N-no? But how di-"

"Alright. Have a nice day!" Tokiko grinned at the camera and waved as she walked away from the crew.

I thought they wouldn't have aired that.

Soon afterward, a teacher came in and began to explain what would be expected of them during the test. Tokiko took her eyepatch off.

2 hours, 100 questions...no problem.

She got her test a smiled a little. There were questions on hero history, quirk usage, as well as basic math and English questions. She took her time to do all of them. Then she saw the last question: What does it mean to be a hero?

Hm...to be a hero is to represent both peace and justice...

She scribbled her answer away on paper, and felt confident in her answer.

As the voice finished up explaining the last of the rules and guidelines, Tokiko rubbed her chin.

Villian robots would be impossible with my quirk, and I don't have a weapon to try ninja robots. Common robots it is,then.

Ok students. 3! 2! 1! BEGIN!

The other students ran ahead of Tokiko in the simulated city, quirks going left and right at the robots, breaking them with ease. Tokiko looked at the other students breaking the robots and noticed many students hitting their heads and arms, while others were literally ripping them apart. She scanned the area for what she had seen earlier.

Where is it...where is it...aha!

Tokiko found a couple of broken robots with their arms ripped off. She picked up the arm of a broken common robot and the arm of a ninja robot. The ninja robot arm was lightweight, like a baseball bat and the common robot arm had more weight to it, making it harder to swing. She tied the common robot arm to her back with her jacket and kept the ninja robot arm out to use.

Tokiko took off running into the crowd of students, hoping to break through to a clear area. As she went through, she noticed a few students looked like they were hitting...each other? There was some strange song playing over the intercom as well...

I know this is a competition, but...I'm pretty sure that isn't okay. Let's just get out of here befo-

Tokiko rolled out of the way of someone swinging at her, and they hit a robot instead.

"Hey, watch it!" She said, getting up and dusting herself off. She leapt out of the way again, as fire hit another robot.

"What are you doing? Hit the robots not me!" She said as she moved. A few students around her looked in her direction, but there was something unsettling about them. Something...she probably shouldn't deal with.

Time to get out of here.

She sprinted away, dodging a few quirks here and there, and eventually got to a less populated area.

Now...where to go?

She stepped towards the left, where she saw fewer students.

If there are no students, I can get all of the points for my- NOPE, NOPE NOPE! Not fighting one of those!

She went in the opposite direction, finding a few students destroying robots around. A common robot noticed her and moved towards her.

3...2...1...

Tokiko dodged the robot, and it paused a second to try and find her again.

CLANK!

She smacked the robot's camera, breaking it. It began to flail about, attacking her previous location.

CLANK! CLANK! CLANK!

She smacked the robot with the arm enough for it to break its head, a puff of smoke coming up as it fell over.

One down, nineteen more to go. But...that took way too long.

Tokiko glanced at the robot arm she initially used. It worked, but now it was bent out of shape. She pulled the second robot arm out from behind her, tossing the other one at another common robot.

3....2....1...

She narrowly dodged the new robot and swung the arm at its head. The camera and robot broke in one swing, falling to the ground.

Perfect.

Tokiko lifted the robot arm high and charged into a crowd of common robots, striking each one down in one blow.

Five more to go... with three minutes left. This isn't so bad.

She took the mangled robot arm tried to use it to detach an arm from another robot when she paused, diving to the left. A ninja robot landed on the common robot remains and sped towards her.

Crap, these are faster than I thought.

She dodged out of the way and began running further in, the robot hot on her heels.

Where to go, where to g-There's a dead end!

Sure enough, there was nothing at the end of the city street except a trash can.

It will strike to the left, then what?

She grabbed the trash can lid and held it up as a shield. As the robot struck, she shoved its arm as hard as she could in the opposite direction. The robot moved slightly but continued to press its arm towards her. The trash can lid began to buckle from the pressure.

C'mon future me, what do we do-There we go!

Tokiko let go of the trash can lid and rolled to the right. The robot smacked the wall, letting some bricks loose. Tokiko picked one up, throwing it at the robots head.

C'mon...c'mon...one of them has to knock it out...

One minute left! A voice said over an intercom.

The robot dove for her again, and she moved out of the way, grabbing onto its neck.

Here goes nothing...

The ninja robot grabbed at Tokiko, trying to get her off, and swinging her around.

Keep going,and....

Tokiko let go of the robot, falling on the ground. The robot slammed itself into a wall, and bricks fell on it, crushing it. Tokiko stood up and dusted herself off. As she looked at the pile of bricks, she sighed.

That was way too close.

After having a hearty breakfast, Tokiko jogged to UA, noting the landmarks on the way there.

There's a store over there...a park over there...there's an elementary school, too.

She tried to keep her mind off of her impending test.

You can do it, Toki. You're prepared. You CAN do this.

She slowed down a bit as she approached the gates of UA. A large crowd of all shapes and sizes were right outside the building.

Whooo boy.

As she approached the crowd, she lifted her eyepatch up and waited. She got a few odd looks from the test takers near her, but that was nothing new. She waved to them in response, and they looked away. A teacher gave them a brief explanation of where to go, and that they would get a thorough explanation at the test site.

So the test is...over there, huh? That doesn't look like a typical classroom...it looks like a city in there.

As she reached the gate with the other students, a loud voice came out greeting them.

Robots? Great...How am I supposed to beat those? Maybe I can use robot parts as a weapon...but if I wait for one to break...hm...

Tokiko sighed.

Its a good thing I studied hard for the written exam. The practical test...is going to be rough.

"198...199...200!"

Tokiko got up after finishing her daily training regiment. 200 pushups, sit-ups, and swats every morning since she set her eyes on being a hero. She'd alternate weight training and running on different days. She freshened up, and got some new workout gear on.

"Its almost time..." she said, putting her eyepatch on. She glanced at the letter on her dresser unopened, and a smile reached her face. Her mother was tripping over herself trying to get it to her yesterday. She recalled it with a grin.

"Toki, Toki! You've got a- Why are you crying?" Her mother asked.

"I can take the UA entrance exam..." She sniffed. "I just...can't believe its actually happening. I finally have my chance." Her mom gave her a hug.

A knock came at the door, pulling her out of her memories. It was her dad.

"Ready for the big day?" He asked.

"You better believe it!" Tokiko said.
