Hi, I'm Monster, but you can also call me Katie if you'd like! I'm a huge video game geek who loves to write. I've been writing on forums for a few years now. If you ever want to talk, just send me a PM and I'd be glad to chat you up. I am currently on a major D&D kick, so I guess that's spurring me back into this site after such a long and much-needed break). :D

I'm a complete sucker for apocalyptic, fantasy and sci-fi roleplays. Anything that tests limits and provides MAJOR character development. That's some good ish.

Whew, I had to get ready for my cousin's wedding, so my post was delayed. I apologize for that, but it's up now!

EDIT: How goes it guys and gals?
Ellie was quite surprised to find that Metro could, and had quoted The Raven, one of the most profound words in the book, if she were to be honest with herself. Impressive, he had definitely earned some respect from her. His earlier, slightly narcissistic quote bounced off her shoulders and fell to the floor with a lighthearted eye-roll in response, paired with a small huff of breathy laughter. Small, but there upon her face, was a smirk. Nodding with that same small smile, she agreed, "Yeah, when you want, I'll lend it. As long as you can keep it in good condition, too" Looking over her prized book proudly, she directed a pointed stare at Metro, giving him another once over, as if determining whether or not he was worthy of her book. Though, she found herself going along with the idea. He seemed to like it, so why not?

Tilting her head to get a little bit more comfortable in looking up at her standing partner, Ellie considered his words. She knew that staying would only give them time to attach to this place, not wanting to leave. But in the long run, besides probable defense, this place had nothing to offer. No, they would have to leave if they wanted to survive. Just as she was about to speak her mind, she heard Metro's voice echo from behind his mask, questioning the probability of a moat. Giving a light laugh, Ellie played along, "Well, in that case, why not make a castle? I'm sure I'd manage as a princess. Who knows, maybe you'll qualify as my knight." She chuckled lightly, all smiles now. She hadn't truly registered what she said, and if she had, she would have noted the possessive terms in use.

Taking a deep breath to settle herself from her light laughter, evening her face once again, settling her gaze on the dark mask. "In all honesty, I think we should just eat and head out. I'm sure we can find a place to rest along the way, I have my sleeping bag, and an extra blanket. Maybe we can search the place before we go." She shrugged, eyes glazing over. This decision could lead them to their death, or salvation. No matter what, she knew they would have a their fair share of hardships.

Her fingers still wrapped around the can, she watched as Metro lifted his hands to his mask, only to pause and turn away. He had left his weapon beside her, either a sign of trust, or that he was baiting her. Either way, she remained seated, looking down at the can he had told her to make even. In all honesty, she was a little hungry, but she knew that compared to her, Metro must have been starving. While he was away, she dropped a few more spoonfuls of beans into her bowl, leaving just a tad more than half of the chili in the can. Not noticeable if he hadn't split it. She smiled to herself.

When she heard footsteps coming back in her direction, she removed her sly smirk and set the can down. She'd had a taste of the chili from her bowl, and to be honest, it wasn't that bad. Sure, it wasn't heated, but just as well; it was food. She was surprised however, when she was greeted by something smacking into her boot. Looking down at her cross-legged feet, she saw a book near her foot. She looked down at in it curiosity, listening to Metro's description, just as she had her's, it seemed Metro had a favorite too. "I'll trade you?" She suggested, lifting her own book with a timid smile. She swapped her copy for his, tucking the new book safely into her lap.

When she felt him get closer, Ellie watched as he plopped to the ground, his mask turning to her once again. What happened next, she hadn't really expected. Sure, she had offered food, but that didn't mean she expected him to eat with her. Heck, she would've been alright with that. I mean, they did just meet. She listened carefully to each word that fell out of his mouth, watching in a shocked silence as he began to remove his mask. Plenty of different possible faces sprouted up into her mind, most all of them had deformities, or burns, even one possibility that a zombie lay under the mask she had grown slightly accustomed to.

The mask off now, Ellie could only stare. The face in front of her was most definitely not a zombie, burned, or deformed. And it most assuredly wasn't scary. Perhaps it could've been, if she had seen it in any other light than the one she saw now. This was her partner, this was who he was. She couldn't find any words to respond to Metro, instead her arm reached out, slowly, fingers dancing softly against his skin. Her soft green eyes searched his, looking for any sign that she should stop. Something in the far back of her mind told her it could be dangerous, but another voice, this one more prominent, told her that she was staring at another human being. A living, breathing face. It was incredible. She stared intently at the man in front of her, absorbing every detail: The small indents on his slightly dried lips, the dark circles from lack of sleep, and most importantly, the eyes. Eyes she hadn't had the luxury of seeing before, and one she wasn't sure she'd get again. If that was the case, she wanted this moment to be forever etched into her brain. Her gaze still locked on Metro's eyes, she let out a breathy whisper, "I don't want to be afraid of you..." Her voice trailed off, realizing she was most likely crossing a boundary, she winced and pulled back, slowly retracting her palm from the face she wanted nothing more than to engulf in.

Her face heating with the blush that rose along with a redness that flowered over her cheeks, she ducked her head behind her hair. "You're my partner in this mess, after all." She said, her voice a little too quick, a little too high. She wanted to look up again, just to look at him, to take him in, and hold him in her mind. Shaking her head, she turned to her bowl of chili and began to eat, using all the willpower she had not to look back up at Metro, fearing she would be met with disappointment- or disgust from him.
Adjusting her glasses, Anna hastily marched into Ellsworth High with intent deeply set on her light features. Pale skin was flushed with the sudden rush of warmth the building and many bodies provided, causing a light pink to taint soft cheeks. Her hands tightened around her backpack as she prepared to enter the vast sea of students, knowing full-well that there would be extra jostling for her. She had trudged through the snow, fought through the cold, but this was another challenge entirely: School. Now, it wasn't the academics that this redhead had a problem with, it was the students. Granted, not all of them gave her trouble. At any high school, there was always a popularity list, or a chain. As well as Anna did academically, she struggled in any kind of social situation, landing her near the bottom of the list. Only the infamous lunch lady and the janitors were below her. Anna received her fair share of teasing, book-dropping, and nerd jokes because of this. Though Anna was strong, she could power through it, always reminding herself she'd been through worse.

Weaving her lithe form through the mass of bodies, inhaling large amounts of perfume, cologne and something that resembled rotten eggs, she tried her best to avoid colliding with the lockers as she was nudged by various students. Never once did her sea green eyes look up. Not a single nudge, not even to look at the rise and fall of shoulders as she passed those nearby. Or to notice the grins, or snickers some were trying to hide, if only to soare her what little dignity she had left. Upon reaching her locker, Anna finally peered up: lost green eyes searching. Searching for something she wasn't quite familiar with, a little something that caused her heart to race. Giving one last quick scan of the crowd, she quickly reached into her locker and pulled her book's close. While racing to her next class, she couldn't help but notice the strange feeling shadow her. Whatever the feeling was, it sent another chill up her spine, one that didn't involve the ongoing snowstorm outside.

The rest of her day had passed by with ease, the hallways may have been a nuisance, but her classes were actually enjoyable. Thankfully, she hadn't had to endure a schedule change yet, if ever. If that were to happen, she'd be exposed to a whole new environment. Anna was a turtle thrust into a world of lions, a girl with a shell to retract into for safety and comfort, while the lions charged along in their prides. She had to admit, looking at the "popular kids" left her breathless. She would notice a group across the lunchroom, laughing without a care in the world, the sun framing each and everyone just right. It seemed like they never had a bad day. Or, as if they could go through any kind of horrid situation and still look flawless. Either way, Anna envied that of them.

As the final bell rang, Anna remained seated in her chair and waited for the class to flood out of the room and mold into the herd of teenagers. Slipping out of her seat, she headed off towards the library. Her mother worked late, and still wasn't find of the whole "home-alone" thing, leaving Anna to extend her time in school. She didn't mind too much, she got extra time in the library, which was surprisingly comfortable. Luckily for her, her last class with Mr. Hemming was directly across the library, giving her a nice and quick route.
As she entered the library, heading to the study area where most of her time was spent, she slumped into her usual chair with a sigh. Today wasn't too bad, all things considered. At least she had a test to take her mind off of the day, allowing her to relax and invest her time into her studies. She had her IPhone in hand, eager to listen to her latest favorite song, Cool Kids by Echosmith.

Having been so engrossed in her work, she hadn't noticed the new presence in the study area. Only when she heard a loud thud emanate from just ahead of her, did she look up — bluish-green eyes filled with shock. Though as her gaze found whom had made the noise, her eyes widened just a tad more. The girl that was in front of her was absolutely stunning. The feeling she had earlier returned, and she found herself looking down to her notebook to avoid blushing as their eyes briefly met. Though she could feel a light warmth in her face, she knew it was a bit too late for that. What surprised her most though, was that the girl wanted to talk to her — even knowing who she was, the new girl. Returning her gaze to the dark-haired teenager, who she seemed to have a hard time thinking around, she stumbled over a response.

"I..." She paused. What if this was some sort of prank? What if she was being set up? She immediately bristled at the the idea, wanting to pick up her things and run. Though, as she glanced over to the girl just ahead, she tilted her chin. Why engage in a conversation at all? Why not just come in and get whatever dastardly plan over with. She glanced around, noticing that they were alone in the study area, only the computers were being occupied in the far back, just behind the bookshelves. No, this couldn't be a prank. She wouldn't have come alone for that. As Anna gave a quick once over to the girl, sizing her up, she doubted that she had actually came here other than to study. Judging by the plentiful amount of things she had brought with her.

Adjusting her glasses, and nervously grabbing at her elbow, Anna continued; "I'm the new girl, yeah. M-my name is Anna. Anna Grace." She pondered whether or not to move from her chair to help the other girl collect her things. Shifting in her seat, Anna tried to think of any conversation starter that might lighten the mood, an excuse to help the stranger. She found nothing, leaving her sitting silently with a fluttering heart and warm cheeks. Suddenly self-conscious, she glanced down at her current attire: A cyan colored t-shirt, short denim vest matched with smooth skinny jeans and a jet-black belt. Nothing much, but it was her style.

Anna cleared her throat, hoping that would give her voice a little more strength. She then proceeded to shift in her seat, trying to stall and talk herself up to continuing the conversation. Eventually, when she noticed almost all supplies had been gathered, her foot tapped against a stray pen that had rolled towards her. It hadn't been there when she had first sat down. This was her chance, if any, to talk with the girl.

Quickly looking up at the new arrival before bending down to pick up the pen, she soon found herelf in auto-pilot. Holding the pen tight in her grasp, she stood and taking a deep breath, she shuffled over to the brunette. Midway to the table, her stomach tightened, nerves devouring her courage step by step. It was too late to go back to the safety of her table now, she was already at the foot of the table.
"I...I uh," The redhead stammered, lifting up the fancy looking pen she had procured, and holding it out towards the slightly smaller, yet more defined teen.

"I think this is yours..?" She trailed off, realizing she didn't have a name to finish the sentence. What a great way to start. She would've smacked her palm to her face if that wouldn't provide anymore embarrassment. She could already imagine every bad thing that could happen from here, all of which were mostly out of the box, and downright foolish. She knew that too — deep down. All she could process though, was that she was so much closer to this girl than before. Actually talking with her and attempting a conversation. Key word: attempting. Anna's mind drifted off to the song she had still playing faintly in the background,

"She say's walking in a straight line, that's not really her style. They all got the same heartbeat, but her's is falling behind. Nothing in this world could ever bring them down. Yeah, they're invincible and she's just in the background

And she says, 'I wish that I could be like the cool kids, cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in. I wish that I could be like the cool kids, they seem to get it."

You do realise that this radio station idea has to happen now? No excuses. Thanks, Monster is a pro roleplayer, I have to hand it to her.

Agh, you're too kind, seriously.

My next post should be up soon, I'm hoping in the next two hours. Whoop!

Also, you don't need to worry about me too much, threedawg. Though....I do hear the dark side has some great cookies.

The way that Metro had tensed up upon the idea of visiting Chicago made her nervous. He went silent once again, not as long as before, but long enough. If only she could see what he was thinking...Or at least see the reactions on his face. Hands entwined together, fingertips nervously dancing over one another, Ellie waited with baited breath for him to say no. He didn't. Though what was given instead wasn't much of an answer.

Perhaps it was an overrun shit-hole. But, it was also her last hope. If it really had nothing left, she would be heartbroken. Chicago was the only twinge of hope left in her lithe frame, the reason she still gave herself for getting up every god-forsaken morning. "Maybe it is..." She sighed, closing her eyes briefly. Her hands stopped their nervous dance. Long lashes lifted to reveal stormy green eyes, vibrant and hopeful. "But there's also a chance it isn't. A chance that there might be something...anything left of the world." She stopped, her voice growing softer with each word she spoke. Yet still passionate. She had to believe it, it was the one of the few things that kept her going now.

Narrowing her eyes when he turned down sleep, even after admitting he hadn't had any for five nights, she could only nod and accept it. She wasn't in any position to go all mother on him now, but she did fear that it would affect his performance. She shook her head in distaste at his whole slave tending remark, but she did enjoy the light-hearted humor otherwise. She opened her mouth to speak once more, but was stunned silent. Her mouth still gaping slightly open. Had Metro just...complimented her? She was trying to catch herself, a slow blush tainting her cheeks. Sticking out against the blonde of her hair, and fair complection.

"I...I um.." She faltered, for the first time in quite a while, she faltered in her speech. Slightly nervous now, Ellie went to get backup, searching her brain. She practically shouted, "EDGAR ALLAN POE, THE RAVEN"
If it wouldn't have made her look more of the fool she felt like, she would've smacked herself in the face. Well, why stop now?
"I-It-it's about darkness, and basically death. But.." She cleared her throat roughly, regaining her bearing little by little. "It also has a deep layer of truth, and strength. A hidden context within the darkness, that allows for something to fight against it. Though in the end of the story it seems dreadful, there's always that little glimpse of hope that's sprinkled in." She gave a quick, small smile.

Sighing, she took out a can of chili from her bag. It was cold, but she doubted it would lack in flavor. Way to go, hotshot. She chided herself on her earlier behavior, something she swore she wouldn't let happen again. She was caught off guard was all, and he was just being polite. That was all. Holding up the can, she held her bag slightly tighter as she walked closer to Metro, green eyes wary. "Well, we should probably eat here then, and we can gather what we can before heading out." She smirked at the dark mask teasingly, "Who knows...Maybe you'll find something for that fortress you told me about."

That said, she strode past him to the corner of the Walmart, raising a brow at his homemade watchtower. With a shrug, she carefully deposited her bag on the floor next to her before sitting on the ground herself. Pulling out her switchblade, she dug into the top of the can and proceeded to open it, wasting no time. Risking a glance up at her new companion- hoping he wouldn't notice her stare, she began to carve his image into her brain. All for strategic purposes, of course. That's all, she told herself. Averting her gaze, she focused once more on their can.

When the lid of the can popped open, she smiled brightly and looked up to Metro, quickly letting him know that it was ready. Sure, it wasn't warm... But she didn't really have a way to fix that. Pulling out her bowl, she took only a small scoop of the chili. That done, she closed her blade and held out the can of chili to him. "Here, I figure you could use more than me anyway. Like you said earlier, I'm not starving anytime soon." She smiled kindly up at him, patting a place on the tile next to her. An invitation, should he wish to accept.

Admittedly, Espen wasn't one for making conversation. Though after what she had heard from the old man, she was wary of attempting such a mission on her own. She entered the inn just behind the group, her steps practiced and precise. Her posture was gracefully stoic, even considering her lack of sleep she refused to give up her good form. Cat green eyes scanned her simple surroundings, wincing as the many sights and sounds assaulted her all at once. She hadn't been in such a lively place in a long time. Seeing the many laughing, drunken faces, she scrunched up her face. Espen was never one to like a drink, maybe a light cider now and again, but never anything hard. It risked her most vital organ being clouded, something she just wouldn't allow to happen.

She let out a soft sigh, watching with slight disappointment in her gaze, as her fellow hired souls headed straight for the bar. She could head up to her designated room, leave all noise behind and do the one thing her body screamed for her to do: sleep. She took a few small steps, only to find herself beside her newly found companions near the bar. Judging by the differences between all of them, she could only guess this would be the beginning of a path riddled with surprises. Starting tonight.

Upon nearing her group, who had just begun to find their seats. She was the only one who hadn't yet ordered a drink, save for the other woman. Who was smallest out of their rag-tag group. Espen knew though, that size was definitely not the only thing that could win a fight. The best fighters, were prepared not just with a sharpened sword, but with a brave heart, and a trained mind. Bearing that in mind, she asked for a small glass of light wine, taking it gingerly into her hands and whispering a quick and polite "Thank you, sir" To the bartender, she moved to sit down alongside her companions.

She raised a brow in confusion when her chair was pulled out for her, something she wasn't used too in her line of work. Giving a small nod of acknowledgment, she sat down into her chair, crossing her legs at the heel. Upon hearing the introductions, she waited with healthy pause before speaking, her diplomatic voice coming into play. Her voice spilled from her two supple lips with ease, melting through her throat and out into the air like sweet honey, silky and smooth. "My name, is Espen." She glanced over each member again, green eyes filled with something unrecognizable, leaving a glint. She didn't continue, rather, she leaned slightly back in her seat, nursing down her wine. Should the opportunity once more arise, she would speak again, but for now, she wanted to hear a little more about those she would be traveling with.

Ellie could only nod at the man as he spoke, feeling incredibly small when his hand engulfed her own in a less-than grandeur handshake. She didn't comment on the name she was given, only lifting her brow ever so slightly. It was a nickname, she was sure of that much. It didn't bother her any that she wasn't met with an actual name, in fact it was a little refreshing. Perhaps she could get around to asking him about it... Wait- that would imply that she wanted to get to know him. Didn't it? She was surprised at the sudden turn of events within her mind. Had loneliness really made her that eager to accept this person?

She was about to try and give herself a reason not to stay, to run. To flee while she had the chance. That's when she saw the mask tilt towards her rucksack. This was it, the reason she needed. He had obviously wanted nothing more than her stuff! She internally chastised herself. If she was going to run this time, she would at least give this...whatever this was, a chance first. She kne- hoped that Metro had good intentions. She had been alone for so long, maybe it was time to give up the act of running away. Maybe she could give herself a reason to stand and fight. Even if that reason happened to be a stranger.

A knowing look passed her face at his comment, her eyes shining somewhat, a brief pride, quick and controlled. Slowly, to make sure each movement she made was noted as peaceful, she reached into her bag, pulling out a small book. "This," She lifted it slightly, allowing the dark blue item to dance further into the view of her newfound companion. Companion? She winced, hiding the movement behind her book. "I guess...I got bored. It get's kinda depressing on your own with nothing to do, so I figured, hey, why not try to get a book?" She lowered it back into her knapsack, a sheepish smile on her features. After she re-closed the bag, she stood, trying to stand a little straighter this time- conscious now of her small frame.

Her sheepish grin faded though, as soon as the next few words left his mouth. He had just proposed they band together. He had just asked her permission in such a thing. Nowadays, that was unheard of. You took what you wanted when you were in a position of power. And judging by the gun he had around him, and his natural strength, she wouldn't stand a chance. She may be agile and cunning, but against head-on brute force...There wasn't much she could do. She stared at him, silent. Again she searched his mask, trying to find something, anything, to prove her wrong. To put out the hopes that she had igniting within. Though it seemed he also, had fallen silent. Silence, something she was so used to. It was strange now, to stand there and want nothing more than to hear him speak now, to break it.

It seemed like he had read her mind. Metro wen't through a quick guideline of his group requirements, something that Ellie found herself intently listening to. She found herself nodding when he mentioned honesty, so far, she had been completely honest. There were some things she still didn't want to tell about with him yet, as he was still new to her. Perhaps over time that would change. Ellie smirked at his not-so eloquent way of asking her to form a group. Or partnership, it was only the two of them. He was right, they would have a better chance together. Metro, with his strength, weaponry, and light-hearted company. Ellie, with her agility, intellect, and semi-serious persona. They could balance one another. Alright.

"Sounds good," She replied, giving a genuine smile. She lifted her bag off of the ground and tilted her head to Metro, ready to ask her next question. "So, Metro. How do you feel about Chicago?" She turned to head outside, glancing back over her shoulder at her companion. "That's where I had planned to head, but it looks like you could use some food and rest." She looked him up and down, once more for good measure. Out of concern, of course. Judging by the way he stood, it looked like he hadn't had a good nights rest in a long time. And it was pretty evident by the way his clothes were somewhat loose at the places they shouldn't be, he wasn't getting enough to eat. "We can rest up here after we eat, I suppose. Gain some strength for the trip. That is, of course...If you want to go?" She gave another sheepish grin. Sure, that was where she had wanted to go, hearing it was safe.
@The Scotsman, I do believe you can yes. I'm sure I remember threedawg stating something about this, as long as it is shown through the roleplay, it should be okay. He'd have to take you up on it though.
