Eating a breakfast prepared by the staff that works harder than kitchen staff in this section of town while watching a holocube recounting last night's "festivities". So begins another day for mommy & daddy's little princess. It's now a breakfast of toast and lots and lots of fruit, because according to my mother I had been looking a "bit more stout" and that was simply not going to do. Especially since she and my father were doing everything they could to make sure that I ended up with Bradley Collins. Bradley had only one flaw in life; he was perfect! Had the right hair, eyes, an answer for everything, and of course came from a very well off family. Most of my "friends" would sell their grandmothers out as subversives to get a chance at Bradley. My parents though are one of the privileged ones though, because they had wealth that was on par with the Collins family. Which of course would lead to a corporate merger that is the stuff of legend. Not to mention the pressure of having grandchildren as soon as possible thus ensuring the blood lines will go on for another generation. Nice to know that my parents don't let pesky little things like my happiness, or the fact that the Collins family is as slimy as they are get in the way of a good merger. Last night members of the revolution raided our dinner party. May God forgive me for this, but I was hoping for either my parents to get shot or for them to take me with them, I can't believe that for so long I was so blind to what my family is, but I am taking steps to change all that. Baby steps mind you but steps none the less.

I hear the gentle "woosh" of the sun deck door open as my mother enters the kitchen area. Mom isn't a horrible person I think if she was dropped into the middle of one of the worse sections in town she would last maybe 5-10 minutes. Then she would say something that got her killed probably about a person's breeding.

Mom says, "Ahh good morning Ellen how are you feeling after last night? I had a dreadful time trying to sleep. It took two sleeping shots to help me cope with the stress of having those terrorists ruin our party."

Okay El this is the part where you turn on the charm and be reassuring, I say, "Sorry to hear that." I take a sip of my coffee. All in all I think that was pretty good considering what I really wanted to say.

Mom asks, "Are you all right you seem a bit out of it? If any of those heathens did something to you your father and I will see to it that they're crushed like the roaches they are. I hear they are starting to use bio-weapons we have to stop them before they get more weapons like that."

Now it's time for an Academy Award performance. I turn to mom and blink and say, "Mom if they had any advanced weapons or anything of that nature I truly believe they'd be using them to escape not to fight against us. They don't stand a chance against us."

Mom is reassured by this and says, "Of course you're right." She presses a button on the wall and says, "Suzanne please bring me my usual breakfast, and tell Charles if he burns my toast again it will cost him dearly."

A voice from the speaker says, "Yes Mrs. Westlake."

As mom sits down I say, "Well if you'll excuse me I need to get ready for work. I have some copy to edit for this afternoon's update."

Mom replies, "Very well don't forgot we're meeting the Collins at the club at 6 tonight."

I reply as I walk away, "Can't wait." Luckily mom can't see me roll my eyes. As I leave to go upstairs to get dressed Suzanne walks by me. The staff is forbade to make eye contact with us, but I touch her arm quickly and she looks at me.

She is stunned by her action and a look of fear spreads across her face. I give her a quick wink and Suzanne looks like she's about to smile but is trying not to. I smile at her and Suzanne smiles back. Nice to know I made a difference in someway for someone today.
Great thank you so much! I will try to get an Ellen post up in the next 24 hours. Maybe even before i go to bed....by this time tomorrow at the latest.
Okay the deputies have been sent out with a very specific assignment. If you're name is on the list get ready to say hello to the law.
Edwin pulled up to the Sheriff's officer and parked his Harley. He was hopeful that a decent night's sleep would change not only his attitude towards the Sheriff but the Sheriff's attitude towards him as well. Once again wearing a black suit and tie, but with motorcycle boots because after he is a bit of a rebel Edwin made his way into the building.

Edwin found 5 deputies just sitting around doing nothing related to police work. Some were Facebooking, some tweeting, and others chose to play solitaire.

Well nice to know that the Sheriff inspires such a strong work ethic in those under his command looks like another day here in the paradise that is Rosemont.

Edwin cleared his throat and one looked up at him. Edwin flashed his badge and said, "I'm Detective Rogers from the Pittsburgh PD here working on the 'Snow White' case I need to talk with Sheriff Hawkins." The deputy gave a smile and said, "Oh but of course sir. I'll go get him right away."

The deputy left and Edwin rolled his eyes, Why do I get the feeling that today is gonna end up with me in jail or left in the woods without my cell-phone or clothes?

Hawkins came back out and the deputy followed him. Hawkins said, "Well if it ain't the big ol' city detective. What can I not do for you?"

Rogers in a very even keel voice said, "Look yesterday I said some things I shouldn't have and I apologize I was out of line. Now I need some assistance in getting the investigation under way. I need the people who's names were on the list brought in for questioning, and I figure since the deputies might have better success in getting them in here I was hoping they would be willing to help. Their parents and a lawyer can be here for the questioning and I can start that once they're out of school. I also need to see the forensic evidence for the case all of it, and I need directions to the crime scene or if I could follow someone to it so I can go over it."

Hawkins replied, "Well nice to see you big city folk can show some respect for those of us in authority. Now the first thing you're gonna need is a subpoena to get us to assist you. Secondly we sent the evidence out to be processed and it could be another few days. Not to mention people around her are still pretty shaken up. We'd just hate to make things worse while the grief is just so real. Besides I figure an above-average slash excellent detective like yourself should be able to wrap this thing up before noon." Hawkins started laughing and the deputies joined in. Hawkins said, "You see Detective Rogers in Rosemont here in Calverton County I hold many weapons at my disposal and the most powerful one is..." he tapped on his badge and said, "Right here, and inspite of the fact you apologized I don't care for you Rogers. I just don't frankly you'd be better off just leaving town."

Okay Katy I tried nice time to bring the hammer down.

Edwin nodded and said, "Ah gotcha. Hold onto that thought. I'll be right back."

Edwin went outside and called Katy. She answered, "Hey there what's up?:"

Edwin replied, "I tried nice and even apologized. Hawkins is stonewalling me giving me a boatload of attitude and hoping I just leave town."

Katy said, "Okay. It's my turn to make a phone call. I know you don't like using this card, but if it'll help get things moving I will."

Edwin replied, "Thanks beautiful. I know don't like making the call either, but it's time to bust out the big guns."

Katy said, "I agree. It'll be coming through in about 5 minutes."

Edwin replied, "Thanks Katy. Love you and your body."

Katy chuckled and said, "Love yours too. Don't get any extra holes in it."

Edwin smiled as he hung up and went back into the station. A deputy went back into Hawkins's office as Edwin leaned on the counter. Hawkins asked, "So you got the guy yet?" Everyone laughed but Edwin who said, "Nah still need your help."

Hawkins shook his head and said, "It ain't happening boy. So get on your scooter and just go away. It's over here for you, and if you think of lodging a complaint with the Mayor...." Hawkins laughed and said, "That clown can't even blow his nose without my say so. I am the law here. It's over run along."

Just then the phone rang and Rogers said, "One last request please put that call on speaker. I want your deputies to see how the law handles things over a phone."

Hawkins asked, "Who is it calling? My Mayor? Your Mayor? or that bimbo who I talked to last night?" It took every once of self control on Edwin's part to keep from going over the counter and decking Hawkins.

Edwin just shook his head and said, "You wish."

Hawkins pressed a button on the phone and said, "Yeah this is Sheriff Hawkins." Another voice on a speaker said, "Sheriff this is the Governor's Office please hold for Governor Pratchett."

Hawkins just stared wide eyed at the phone as his men frantically cut off their computer distractions as though Pratchett could see them.

Pratchett said, "Sheriff Hawkins this is Governor Mark Pratchett. Just calling to see how the investigation is going. I hear that Detective Rogers is encountering some obstacles tell me that ain't true Sheriff."

Hawkins was stuttering and stammering and finally said, "Well sir we ah are just finding our footing and getting to know one another and...."

Pratchett said with a growl in his voice, "I didn't send him down there to get to know you! I sent him to solve a murder! I'll say this one time only Sheriff and I'll say it slowly so there is no misunderstanding me. From this moment on if Detective Rogers says it you and your associates do it then and there period end of discussion. You and your associates are there to serve and assist him without any interference. Any further delays or obstacles I will draft an executive order, come down there to Rosemont with 6 State Troopers and serve it to you personally. It will state that you and your associates will be relieved of your duties effective immediately! The State Troopers will be responsible for keeping the peace until a special election to choose your successor has been conducted. Have I made myself clear Sheriff?"

Hawkins was in a state of shock as he said, "Yes sir Governor. I ah...." Just then the Governor hung up. The silence in the room was deafening and all eyes turned to Edwin.

Edwin said, "Yes you have many weapons, but a good law officer needs only one. Now about that list...."

Hawkins looked at two of the deputies and said, "Get over to the school right now make sure those kids are brought here after school. Go!" He looked at two others and said, "Call their parents and explain the situation I don't care what they're doing they're on notice about this." He looked at one more and said, "Get on up to the lab and you lean on those techs I want those tests done asap. On your way out though please escort Detective Rogers to the crime scene."

Edwin gave a half bow on said, "Thank you Sheriff."

Hawkins nodded and said, "Not a problem Detective. Need anything else let me know."

Edwin replied, " I'll need a room here to do the questioning later today."

Hawkins nodded and said, "Of course."

The deputy walked up to Edwin and said, "If you'll follow me sir."

Edwin gave a half bow and said, "Thank you again Sheriff." With that Edwin was on his way to the crime scene. One piece of information Edwin kept to himself about Katy, besides the fact that she was his girlfriend, was that Katy called Governor Mark Pratchett by another title...Uncle Mark.
Fuzzy Apples are our friends but they won't pick you up at the airport.
Good to see you back Drummer D! Replied to you already. It's a little short, but it reestablishes the relationship.
Luke took his seat at the table and propped his feet in another chair, and then Ryan just had to say it. Luke looked at him first as though he had just eaten a bad olive, and then a smirk came over his face. The next thing Luke knew he was laughing at Ryan and said, "I told Candice the night I left her that if I ever saw you again I had a big I told ya so coming to me." He opened his bottle of water and raised it up to Ryan at the doors. Luke said, "You got me on this one my friend. I deserve that one in spades."

Luke grabbed another bottle of water and put it at a open seat. He said, "You deserve this one. It's good seeing you again Ryan." Luke looked around and said, "Well since it looks like we're the only ones in this joint I say we play a couple of hands and then raid some of the other floors. Not sure how much we'll fine this place has been home for me for the last four days."

Luke gestured over his shoulder and said, "I'm in the supply closet about four doors down." Luke took a swig of his water and said, "You come back here I'll tell you how it all ended with Candice. I gotta feeling she ain't gonna be troubling us for a while. Although there is a part of me that's regretting one thing." Luke took another swig and said, "I never thought i'd hear myself say this, but I gotta feeling I'm gonna regret not killing her when I had the chance." He shook his head and said, "I don't know maybe i'm just going through a bit of survivor's guilt, because of all those others who weren't so lucky in dealing with her. Like I said I'll tell you all about it when we get the cards going."

Luke noticed the stage in the grand room and smiled as he looked around. He said, "I'll bet this place really was something to see back in it's day. Probably threw some killer New Year's Eve parties too. I can almost see the jazz band on stage now, the disco ball turning in the lights, while the confetti and streamers filled the air. All the while the cleaning staff was thinking, 'Damn, we gotta clean this crap up.' They were probably lucky to be getting around 6 am."

This was pure empty conversation to say the least, but it didn't matter to Luke or even Ryan. When the two of them were together things always seemed to work out, and they had each other's back no matter what happened. Sure the whole Candice episode was a bump in the road, and Luke knew he should've listened to his friend on that one. One thing was for sure though now that they were back together their chances of survival just went up 10 fold.

Reviewing arrest reports always such a joyful way to start off the day. This report has a little bit of everything in it all wrapped up with a nice shining bow on it. Two groups of "subversives" arrested for breaking into a party for the Westlake's causing mayhem, assaulting several officers on the scene, and stealing. What was it all about? Survival they were trying to feed their family. What they stole were scraps off of the plates and left overs in the kitchen which would've fed their families for a week. In the past I would've been one of the first ones to congratulate my fellow law officers, but now it makes me want to vomit. Worse is seeing the footage on the news this morning how these "terrorists" are being vilified in the media, and how the Westlakes are being viewed as the victims. This world has truly descended to a level of Hell no human being could've ever imagined.

Just then I hear a knock at my door as I sit at my desk nursing a cup of coffee. I say, "It's open come in." The door opens I look up and see my father Jason standing there and he asks, "Am I bothering you?"

I reply, "No not at all come on dad have a seat." I ask, "Can I get you a cup of coffee?"

Dad replies, "No don't have a lot of time I just thought I would come and see you for a few minutes. I got a doctor's appointment in about an hour." My dad looks around and says "Nice office how does it feel to a Prefect? Not on the streets all the time, reviewing the work of others, lecturing at the academy twice a month, being able to come and go as you wish."

I smile and shake my head as I say, "Dad this is only my second day as a Prefect. At least give me a month to get things figured out on my own and I'll let you know. Besides the paperwork is already making me nostalgic for wading in the mud and sewers chasing suspected subversives. Besides it's a title that carries a lot more weight to it like having to wear a bulletproof vest almost all the time, because someone might take a shot at you when you least expect it."

My dad smiles and chuckles a bit. He looks at me for a moment and says, "I am so proud of you son. You have gone to heights that your grandfather and I could've never dreamed of. You're a fine officer and an even better son. I know i was hard on you when you were growing up, but I hope now you see that it was worth it."

I reply, "Well it wasn't always a day at the beach, but you instilled in me a drive to do what was right and a strong work ethic. For those two things I thank you. They brought me to this point and I am proud of that."

Dad nods and says, "Excellent son. Well I gotta get going." He stands up and smiles at me saying, "Keep the peace son and know that we're proud of you."

I stand up and say, "Thanks for stopping by dad. Let me know what the doc says."

Dad replies, "Will do son take care."

My dad leaves and I sit back down and reflect on what he said, He's taking some of the credit for my success and to a point he's justified, but some of his methods in drilling discipline and "work ethic" as he calls it; they leave a lot to be desired. Not to mention if he knew what I was planning there's no doubt he would turn me in. I rub the inside of my bulletproof vest and feel the outline of a file folder. I redesigned my vest so it has a false compartment for smuggling folders and certain other items out of the station. As a Prefect I have certain privileges and rarely am I ever questioned. This folder is a show of trust for a meeting later tonight. Hope I know what I'm doing....
Me too ...I gotta good feeling about this....I'll get to work on them in the IC within the hour.

Name: Ellen Westlake
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Orientation: Strait
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Marital Status: Single

Occupation: Propaganda Officer

Appearance:

Personality: Ellen was all about her work once. It was the thing that drives her and made her feel most alive. She viewed her work as a service to those who are in power that are deserving of praise and adulation. Now Ellen not only is questioning the ruling class that she once helped prop up, but there is a new drive inside of her…the destruction of the ruling class.

Biography: Ellen was born into a world of wealth and privilege. Her parents were one of the ruling classes and it was the only life that Ellen has ever known. It was discovered that Ellen had a way with words and convincing others to her point of view very easily, and she was given a position as a propaganda officer. Ellen saw nothing wrong with what she was doing and she did her job brilliantly, but that began to change when she saw some of the work that her co-workers doing was being changed to fit a certain narrative. This not only has made Elle start questioning her own occupation, but worse question her own family.
