I feel the need to remind people that the nature of relationships varies person to person and the specific paring involved. What may work well in one relationship may be a terrible thing to do in another.

Amen.

I agree, if you can find the strength to do it, it's a good idea to tell him what's been going on in your head. But don't beat yourself up about doing what you feel you need to in order to take care of yourself. If you do, it's totally understandable and natural. You're allowed to feel however you feel ♥

(Personally, I think you made a good choice. I also have trouble sharing my emotions, and in my experience it can be incredibly stressful on a relationship if one part has to do most or all of the emotional legwork.)

I think you might have dropped your strawman there, man.

(Prior to Stand Your Ground you still had legal rights. They just didn't include killing an unarmed boy and calling it self-defense.)
Yeah, wow, not too smooth a move. From what I can tell, though, Christie does seem like kind of a jerk. Anyone know if his vetoes (or at least his opinions) on marriage equality and funding for Planned Parenthood have changed?

Griever said Not to mention, if he was really that guilty, the jury could have chosen a guilty verdict. But they didn't. Also why are you trying to bring his lawyer's past history into this? His lawyer did his job which is to provide a defense for his client. That's how our judicial system works, homegirl and you're the type of person that would have condemned women in Salem to be burned as witches without hearing all of the evidence because you base legal cases on emotion, not evidence.

I brought the Marissa Alexander case up to show that the judicial system doesn't work. What constitutes self-defense apparently varies wildly. Tasty ad homs, though. Yum.

Interesting (actually) true fact -- Stand Your Ground was never once invoked by the defense during the Zimmerman trial. It has literally nothing to do with his acquittal.

Huh, you're right, it wasnt invoked. My bad. The judge did instruct the jurors, though (as required by SYG law), that Zimmerman had a right to stand his ground and use deadly force. Without SYG, he'd have told the jurors that Zimmerman had a duty to get the hell out of there before defending himself. So I still stand by the claim that Stand Your Ground helped get George Zimmerman acquitted.

The guy who killed a suspicious hooligan in self-defense (if someone is slamming you head into the pavement, you have the right to kill them in self-defense) and was later vilified as some sort of racist, yes, I do consider him a victim.

The dude, who by the way was already known for his aggressive neighborhood watch tactics, carrying his concealed weapon, stepped out of his car and followed Trayvon Martin after explicitly being told not to by the police dispatcher—let's repeat that: George Zimmerman, a decade older and some seventy pounds heavier than Trayvon Martin, carrying a concealed weapon, chose to pursue Martin, who was unarmed. He then murdered Trayvon Martin, was not convicted—not even of manslaughter!—because of Stand Your Ground (which doesn't count if you're a young black man being followed by an armed man, apparently) and then proceeded to actually make money off of his murdering a boy. Tell me again how he's a victim.

As for the racism, it seems pretty clear that Zimmerman holds some racist views (you think this would have happened if it was a white kid?). Being Hispanic doesn't stop him from being racist.

ETA: Speaking of racism and the whole "well it was self defense" thing: Marissa Alexander (prosecuted by the same lawyer as George Zimmerman!) killed exactly nobody after being abused by her husband. For some reason she doesn't get to invoke Stand Your Ground.

Kill a kid? Well, sure, it was self defense. Fire a warning shot at a wall? 20 years in prison for you, lady. See how self defense is exactly what we want it to be?
Griever said I can't help but feel like there were 2 victims in that case. Obviously people riddled with White Guilt are going to be rooting for DMX.

Wait, are you serious? The guy who killed a boy is a victim?
