I shook my head gently. "No, that's yours to use. I've got my cream, but thanks." I sent her a smile. Looking around the camp as we walked by, I didn't even know where we were going. We hadn't been here for long enough for me to know my way around.
"Do you happen to know where our cabin is?" I asked her, wondering if maybe she knew.
"She didn't really say anything. She wants to see me again after dinner, so I guess I'll find out then." I said as I followed her out the door and back down the hallway. "I might have to ask her about getting pain killers thought, I'm not sure cream temporarily relieves the pain." Once we were outside, I looked over at her. "Are you okay? It's just that one bruise right? You're all good apart from that?"
Once we were in the dark room, Glenda pointed to the table in the center of it, the only thing lit up. "Go ahead and lie down, and stay very still. I'm going to go behind this screen here and it'll be over before you know it." She said giving me a smile. I nodded and moved over to the table, lying down with a wince. "Okay, I'm ready." I told her keeping my body still and suddenly I heard a whirring noise and the machine above me began it's job.
No sooner than it started, it was done. "Alrighty! Hop down and get outta here." Glenda said with a smile coming out from behind the screen. "Oh, here's the cream for your bruises." She handed me a white tube and then opened up the door. "Remember I want to see you after dinner." She smiled and waved me out where I found Daisy sitting in a chair.
"All done." I said and grabbed my jacket from the bed where I'd left it before.
Soon enough I heard footsteps approaching, and Daisy and Glenda appeared in the doorway. In Daisy's hands I saw what looked like a bag of gel. "Ice pack?" I asked nodding towards it.
"Spot on." Glenda jumped in with a click of the tongue and made her way up to me. "Right, let's get you off this bed and you can followed me to get this x-ray done." She said with a smile putting her hand on my arm and gently helped me slide off of the bed. "Just through here." She guided me to a smaller door on the opposite side of the room that was ajar so I could see that it was almost completely black in there. "You stay out here honey. We won't be a tick." She called over her shoulder to Daisy. "Make yourself comfortable."
I sat on the bed, unsure of whether I was allowed to put my shirt back on, considering I was about to have an x-ray done. After a couple of minutes of debating, I picked it up from beside me and slowly pulled it on, my muscles aching in protest. I didn't know how long they were going to be but I assumed they were getting Daisy's ice pack and possibly the cream for my bruises. With my hands in my lap, I looked around the room, this was probably one of the nicer buildings in the camp. Everything so far was old and grey. This one was more updated and had more white in it than anything else.
"First things first, we'll get those cuts stitched up." Glenda said after a couple of minutes as she dropped the clipboard and reached for the necessary tools to help her. I looked down at my chest where various cuts were wide open, covered with dried blood, despite what Luke had done to clean them up.
"I'll also give you some cream that you can put on your bruises twice a day." Glenda spoke as she moved in, pulling gloves over her hands. "Morning and night. And I want you back here after dinner, and again in the morning. We'll do your x-ray once I've done this." Lifting the needle up, I took a deep breath and she began, moving with practiced skill as she sewed up my cuts. Not much later I had five sets of stitches on my torso and two on my face, one on my jaw and the other above my eyebrow.
As Glenda peeled her gloves off she turned around and set her eyes on Daisy. "Follow me." She said to her and walked through a door into the hallway, obviously on a mission.
Glenda smiled softly at me as she placed my t-shirt down on top of my jacket.
"Alright. Are you ready?" She asked me raising her hands in preparation. I glanced over at Daisy who had walked away slightly to give me privacy, kind but not necessary.
"Yeah. Just do it." I said before closing my eyes and gripping the edge of the bed as I waited for Glenda to begin.
At first her touches were light, her cold hands skimming over my torso, but then I felt the pressure causing me to gasp in pain. My eyes opened wide as she pressed down on my bruises, trying to get a feel for anything more. I gripped the bed tightly, wincing and trying to breathe through the pain, and soon enough Glenda let her hands dropped and reached for a clipboard and pen on the tray next to her.
"You're lucky you know, from what I can tell nothings broken. You do have very severe bruising on your ribs and stomach, so I'd like to get that x-rayed, just in case." She said to me, writing all of it down as she spoke.
Looking back at Glenda, who stood in front of me, I smiled softly as she considered me for a moment. "You know this might be easier if you take your shirt off." She said giving me a wink and I swallowed hesitantly before unzipping my jacket and peeling it off slowly, revealing my bare arms that we're black and blue with bruises. Dumping the jacket down beside me, I reached for the bottom of my shirt lifting it up as high as I could go before I winced in pain. I heard Glenda sigh and felt her grab a hold of the shirt and pull it the rest of the way off.
I watched as Glenda did her examination of Daisy and felt my heart pound when she gasped aloud at the poke in her side. I turned away, looking across to the other patients to give them some privacy as Glenda began lifting up Daisy's shirt to get a better look. There was hardly anyone in here, I wondered if that meant there were more similar rooms to this building or if they just hardly had any injured people around here.
Letting my hands drop to my side, I gripped the edge of the bed, preparing to be poked and prodded. I cringed as Glenda reached her hands up, to touch each side of my face, turning it gently to get a better look at my jaw. "Well, you'll certainly be needing some stitches, but nothing I can't handle. We'll start there and make our way down." She said looking me in the eye as she pulled her hands away, patting me lightly on the shoulder.
