"Well that's very nice, thank you but how do you propose we do that? This is their camp, we're surrounded by an electric fence." I pointed out in a whisper as she helped me to my feet. Groaning in pain as I stood, I dropped my head tiredly and couldn't help but lean on Daisy with my full weight. I just wasn't strong enough to stand on my own. "Look I'm just dead weight, you need to get yourself out of here. We'll both be killed if you try to drag me out as well, you'll have more of a chance on your own."
I lifted my head slowly, half hoping it wasn't who I thought it was. "Daisy." I groaned as I turned to look at the door, seeing her standing there. "You killed those girls didn't you. God, what are you doing here? These people are insane, you need to get out of here." I said pushing myself into a sitting position.
I sighed, tired of this, my body was aching and at the moment all I wanted to do was sleep. I knew I should be trying to fight them off, run and get out of here as quickly as I could, but I just couldn’t summon the energy. “Look, we’ll put him in the cell at the end, it’s far enough away and he’s too bruised up to anything.” The other guard said and the soldier nodded his head tiredly shooing us down the cold hall.
They opened up the solid door to my new cell and threw me in, closing and locking the door before I had the chance to sit up.
“Wait, don’t bring him in here, we’ve got a couple of dead soldiers.” I heard a soldiers voice call out before dropping to a murmur as he neared us. I looked up and saw a soldier I’d never seen before look down at me. “Did you do this? Did you kill my girls?”
I frowned and coughed before answering him. “No, who?” I asked and he rolled his eyes and walked away.
“Wait a minute!” One of my guards called out. “What’re we supposed to do with him then? We had orders to take the prisoner to the cells and leave him there till morning. Nobody breaks Pullman’s orders.”
I was untied from the chair and tugged out of it, my whole body protesting as it was suddenly required to move again. "I'll be seeing you Sam." Kip said with a nod. "Might come and eat dinner with you? Sounds like a nice idea doesn't it." He asked with a tilt of his head, smirking at me again. The soldiers, dragged me out of the tent and all I could see was the dirt on the ground again as they dragged me back to the cells.
Ten minutes had passed and I still hadn’t said anything, and Pullman was getting incredibly frustrated making me smile. I was I looked down at the ground, before leaning forward and spitting blood out onto Pullman’s boots. “You’re not getting anything from me, haven’t you realised that by now?” I muttered out and he heard me growling angrily. Sending me one last blow, I winced but tried to listen carefully as he turned to Kip.
“Take him back to the cells. No food, no water. Nothing. I want him begging for his life. We’re going to break him. Do whatever you want, I don’t care, but don’t kill him.” He said angrily. “I want him back tomorrow morning, if he doesn’t say anything then I’m done, kill him any way you like.”
Kip’s eyes glistened for a moment before he turned to me and smiled wickedly.
“Yes, Sir.”
“Sam. Right, then why are you here on my land… Sam." He asked turning away from me as he walked over to a large desk near the back of the tent. He pulled off his jacket before glancing over his shoulder at me. "Well? You don't want this to be any harder than it already is, do you?" He dropped the jacket on the desk before unbuttoning his sleeves and rolling them up to his elbows.
"As you might have already guessed, I have little patience Sam, and I also have little time on my hands. I'm a very busy man. We're just gonna go around in circles until you start talking to me." He made his way back over to me.
"So tell me, why are you here?" He stared at me, waiting for me to answer. I only held eye contact before he clenched his jaw and gripped my shoulder tightly. Shoving a fist into my stomach, he leant close to my ear as I groaned. "You're not making this any easier for yourself."
“Kip!” A loud gruff voice came from outside of the tent and the man in front of me stood straight and tucked his knife into his belt.
“Sir, we were waiting on you to begin.” He said and for some reason I felt a bit better knowing what this man’s name was.
The tent flap was brushed aside as a tall muscly man with an angry face stormed inside. This must’ve been Pullman. Kip nodded to me in my chair and I made direct eye contact with the intimidating man as he snarled and walked over to me, looking me over.
“What’s your name?” He asked and without a second to spare slapped me across my face. “I asked you a question boy! Your name!”
I blinked in surprise trying to rid myself of the black dots in my vision. “Sam, my names Sam.” I spluttered.
After another five minutes, we'd reached some kind of official looking tent. As we entered, the first person I saw was the leader from earlier. He was smirking as he leant against a table, using a knife to pick at something in his nails. "It's good to see you again, you're looking great I must say." He said hopping off the table with a smile and then pointed at a chair in the center of the room, which I was quickly dragged to and forced to sit in, my hands tied tightly to it. "Great. Pullman should be here in a minute, he said he had some business to attend to." He told the soldiers with a roll of his eyes.
“Stop! Please.” I groaned, blood dripping from my lips as I spoke. “Please, stop.”
The soldiers laughed. “That’s what we were waiting for.” The one holding me up stepped away and let me drop to the ground knowing I was too weak to hold myself up. As they exited the dark cell, I closed my eyes in pain and relief knowing I was going to be left alone until I was needed again. My hands tight behind my back, I lay there regaining strength as my body throbbed and ached.
An hour later I was leaning against the cell wall, waiting for something to happen. I could feel my jaw swelling from where they’d hit me and was trying to avoid moving it when the large thick door swung open letting light in and making me wince.
“Time to go!” The soldiers were back only this time they stormed in and grabbed my arms, making me shout out in pain. They dragged me out, with my head hanging, I had no energy to walk so my feet dragged out behind me in the dirt as they made their way through the camp grounds. As we passed all the different tents, I heard Jaxlor’s shouting out names, calling me things like ‘Tilerian Filth’ and ‘Scum’. The soldiers holding me chuckled, all I could do at this point was ignore them.
