I froze in my seat as the guards hauled the guy off of the ground and dragged him out of the room. Sitting up, I turned to Daisy and stared at her. "Tomorrow?" I mouthed throughout all of the angry shouting in the room. We weren't going to last two seconds out there, Daisy and I weren't ready, I could hardly run let alone fight. "They can't be serious." I muttered, more to myself than anything, I wasn't expecting to be heard over the noise.
"I dunno, it'd be extremely risky. If we found out more about this base and got to know the in's and out's of all the procedures, I'm sure we could figure out something." I murmured to her as I glanced around the room once more, now wondering if that was what everyone was talking about. Across the room, I spotted Penelope chatting excitedly with Luke who was nodding as he stuffed his mouth full of egg, Christy sitting between the two of them looking bored stiff. Even if we did find a way out, could we leave everyone else behind?
I chucked as I sat back in my chair. "Yeah, wouldn't that be a dream."
Now that my food had settled in my stomach, I was starting to think I didn't need a second helping of bacon and eggs, despite how much I wanted it.
"So... what are we supposed to be doing today?" I asked Daisy as I laid a hand on my stomach. I couldn't exactly be preparing for the front line, that would require training, and my body was not in shape for anything of the sort.
I shook my head. "Nope... it's the weirdest thing I've ever seen." I stated with a smile. Glancing around the room, I noticed the noise level had risen considerably since people had started filing in and spotted what was on offer for breakfast. "If only we had this treatment everyday, it would make everyone a lot happier." I said turning back to Daisy then paused as a thought popped into my head. "Maybe we should send the government some of your breakfast taco. Then they'd be forced to change their minds about us because we opened their eyes to a whole new exciting world."
I laughed at the name she called me and sat forward, gesturing at her toast sandwich. "When did you decide you wanted to eat your eggs like a Mexican?" I asked, watching as a bit of the egg and bacon filling escaped out one end. "I can honestly say I've never seen bacon and eggs eaten that way."
I laughed. "I guess I can only try." I said before loading another forkful into my mouth. No more than five minutes later, I had demolished my plate. Setting my fork down, I leant back in my chair and stretched as far as I could without hurting myself. "I might give it a few minutes before I head up for more. Don't wanna seem too desperate... even though I clearly am."
I nodded. "Sounds good to me." I said and followed her over. Once I'd taken a seat across from Daisy, I grinned down at my food excitedly before picking up my fork and digging in. I groaned with delight as my first mouthful disappeared quickly. "I can't decide if I want to savor my food or just eat it all quickly and then go get seconds."
I could barely conceal my grin as I moved along the line, holding out my egg and toast laden plate for the bacon that would accompany it. The smell was amazing. I hadn't had this sort of meal in years, hadn't smelt this food in forever. "This is what I'm talking about." I said as I turned to Daisy once she'd gotten her own breakfast. "And we're nice and early too so everything is hot and fresh. Maybe we should get up early more often." I said sending her a quick wink.
"Maybe we've been met half way." I suggested glancing over at Daisy before I looked around trying to find out what it was. "Smells like eggs?" I guessed as I led Daisy over to the food station and picked up a plate and tray. Moving along the line, I discovered it was eggs. Eggs, toast and- "Wait, is that bacon?" I asked in disbelief, pointing to the smaller dish down the end. "You've got to be kidding me!" I almost shouted excitedly.
I smiled at her excitement before seeing the people she was talking about. "Yeah. To be honest I'm not even sure why I'm up, I'm never up this early. This is a rarity. I mean what is it? Five thirty? Six?" I shook my head. "I guess the stomach has it's way of showing you what it wants."
