I smiled up at her and took her hand, letting her pull me up. "Thanks." I said as I dusted the back of my pants off. "Lead the way, we should probably take note of how long it'll take us to get back to our cabin, just so we know for the future." I suggested as I looked at Daisy once more, wondering if we could actually pull this off.
"Maybe if the cooks do agree, we can get it all tomorrow morning. Once we've got a map and we've planned out where we're going, then we can figure out how long it'll take us to get there and then we'll know how much food we'll need. We'll also need the final numbers of people coming with us, that'll effect the food level too." I said my thoughts aloud and then looked over at Daisy. "We should probably get started, we've got a lot to do."
“Next part… good question.” I said watching as she sat down as well. “Well, I could sure use a breakfast taco, all that walking burned off my first meal.” I smiled and leant against the fence, waiting for my ribs to stop aching. “Actually, there’s an idea. How about we see what the cook thinks about lending us a bit of food? We can do it now, or after lunch maybe. Or whenever suits.”
"I don't think they're really too worried about the dirt." I laughed and couldn't help the grin that spread across my face, things were finally looking up; we had a real way out of here. “If only that girl I made up to get him to tell me about this place was real, apparently she knows all the secrets.”
“Yeah, I’m fine. I’m just aching a bit, I’ll manage.” I told her, slowly sitting down on the dirty ground as Daisy searched through the bushes. I looked up as she called out and grinned.
“This is great, how big is it? What’s on the other side?” I asked quickly wondering if we should figure out a secure route to take now before we climb through tomorrow.
I smiled but shook my head. “No, you go. I need to sit for a minute.” I said as I finally paid some attention to the throbbing ache in my body for the last half an hour. Leaning against the fence, I wrapped an arm around my chest, as if trying to hold it together. I didn’t know how I was going to manage tomorrow, let alone going on the run, but I knew I was going to try.
I looked over my shoulder and raised an eyebrow. “Maybe you should look, you know, seeing as you’ve seen just as much as I have.” I smirked and turned back to looking. “He said it was behind a bush, so it’s gotta be pretty obvious, there aren’t many bushes along here.”
Walking slowly along the fence line for a few minutes, I huffed and turned around coming back towards the artillery shed when I saw it.
“There.” I pointed. It was sitting just behind the shed, the bush sticking out, covering the hole.
I looked up from where I’d been kicking rocks for the last few minutes, ahead to the old shack Daisy pointed out.
“It must be.” Walking up to it, I peered inside one of the windows and saw a table full of guns inside. “Yup, definitely it, so the bush should be along here somewhere.” I said stepping back to search the surrounding fence area.
I nodded as she spoke, agreeing with everything she was saying. I didn’t want to go hungry either, and I certainly didn’t want to starve to death out there, it was almost worse than going out into the front line… almost.
“Yeah, I think so.” I said as we finally approached the fence. “He said to continue along the fence wall until we come to the shed, so it can’t be far.”
