"I'm with her." Joe said. "You said we'd get Nina and go, that was the agreement. Remember?" He added turning to face me.
I nodded. "Yeah, I know, but seeing as they don't know we're still out here we don't have to rush. We can take our time to get food, medical supplies, weapons.. the maps. We don't want to go out there unprepared." I told them and then turned to Daisy, pulling her aside.
"You didn't see Luke, Christy or Penelope did you? Were they in there?" I asked gesturing over my shoulder back towards the cell. "We should have looked for them."
Peering around the doorway one last time, I made sure the coast was clear before sneaking past the guards as quietly as I could, making my way towards the others.
As soon as I reached them, I turned around looking out at Em, waiting for her to come and join us now we were out safe.
"C'mon Em." I heard Joe mutter from beside me.
A few minutes later, we all watched silently as Em started to pull back from the group of soldiers, leaving them with a smile and a wave as if they'd all been friends forever. I stepped back behind the building, pulling the others out of sight so that if the guards turned to watch her go they wouldn't spot us waiting for her.
"Hey!" One guard called at last, causing all of us to freeze where we stood.
Em was close to us now, her feet turning on the gravel sounded loud as she faced them again. "Yeah?" She called calmly.
"Le' us know if ye see any mischief going on, if ye do, bring 'em back 'ere for us will ye?" The guard I recognized as Locke called after her and the rest of them chuckled.
Em replied, "Sure thing," and then walked away from them, coming around the corner to be greeted and grabbed by Nina as she rejoined us.
I smiled and nodded at Daisy as we reached the door. "Yeah, that's fine. C'mon." I said and stepped forwards, peering around the edge of the door.
Em was still standing there looking slightly nervous as she chatted away to the guards who's backs were to us. Her face filled with relief when she saw me and I nodded, letting her know we had the others. She gained confidence once more and continued to distract the guards.
"Joe." I said stepping back and he nodded to me. "I'll go last, you get everyone over there and I'll follow."
"Okay." He agreed and peered around the door before creeping back to the shadows of safety.
"Alright, Spencer you next." I waved him over and sent him out, watching and hoping that he would be quiet enough.
Sighing with relief when he reached Joe, I gestured to Nina who nodded and quickly followed the others, not needing me to tell her when to go.
"Okay, Daisy. You go and I'll be right behind you." I said turning to her.
"We'll come back and get them out tonight." I said automatically, hardly realizing what I was saying I was so caught up in my thought to do with the plan.
"Em, is our sister and she's out there distracting the guards for us." Joe explained looking over his shoulder at Daisy. "She must be doing a good job as well, seeing as we've gotten this far. As for getting out of here, I say we exit one by one. Quietly. Head for the building we came from and then we can go from there."
"It's rough, but it'll have to do. I've talked to Joe, Em and Spencer and they're coming with us, hopefully Nina will agree as well. Did you find Christy, Luke or Penelope?" I asked hopefully, although it didn't seem like she did, otherwise they'd be trapped in here with her.
"Hey, let's go. We've gotta get out of here and get Em." Joe said, turning to us once he'd given Nina a squeeze on the shoulder.
"Do you think she's okay?" Spencer asked as worry filled his eyes.
"There's only one way to find out." Joe said and led the way.
I smiled nervously at Daisy through the bars as I took the hair pin from Nina. "Thanks." I said and bent down, hoping that I wasn't being stupid and this would actually work.
"Maybe someone should look for some keys while you do that, just in case..." Joe suggested skeptically.
"Yeah, no offence Sam but-" Spencer broke off as the lock I was manipulating with the hair pin gave a loud click, and I pushed the door open.
"No way." I muttered but stood up, feeling quite happy with myself.
"You've got to be kidding me." I heard Joe say before Spencer pushed past us, rushing in to see Nina.
"Daisy!" I exclaimed happily then looked from Daisy to Nina and shook my head. "No, it's too noisy. Em's out there distracting the guards, we don't want to put her in danger. We've gotta be quiet."
I looked around, trying to think while Joe and Spencer shifted on their feet, anxious. "Do you guys have a hair pin?" I asked the girls, hoping something a simple as this could work.
"A hair pin? Really?" Joe asked raising an eyebrow at me, his fingers resting on his gun, obviously wanting to get this over with.
Spencer whipped around and tore over to one of the cells down the end of the hall.
"Nina! Thank god, Nina, come on. Let's go," He said so excited and nervous he forgot that the door was locked.
"Spence move." Joe said as he came up behind him and brought out his gun, getting ready to shoot the lock off.
"No, wait, don't!" I cried and stepped forwards grabbing his arm. "We can't let them know we're here."
"They already know, don't they? That noise-"
"If they knew we were here we'd be surrounded by now, keep it quiet." I told him and he nodded, slipping his gun back in this pocket.
Rounding a corner, I was starting to feel nervous. What if they weren't here? We'd almost checked every last cell.
"Nina." Spencer called again, not trying to be quiet this time.
I whirled around, irritated and ready to call him out on it, when there was a loud clang from down the hall.
"Go." Joe said looking at me alarmed and we ran from cell door to cell door, checking each prison block for Daisy or Nina.
I nudged Joe, now was the time, the guards were distracted but we had no idea how long for. "Let's go." I whispered and started towards the cell block as quietly as I could. I could hear Joe and Spencer following me, and soon enough we were slipping through the half open door and into a cold dim hallway.
"Nina." Spencer whispered loudly, his hoarse voice echoing slightly in the emptiness of the hall.
"Shh, there could be guards." I murmured to him and we began checking the cell windows, looking for a familiar face.
