Just want to let you know that I more or less have my character idea fully fleshed out. Now it's just time to sit down and actually write the character's CS. I suspect that if I'm not too... uhh... thirsty during tomorrow's concert I should have it up by Sunday night (tomorrow night). If you want I can have the skeleton up probably tonight.

EDIT: Additionally, it doesn't seem like Ferros would be a nation that would marry for political gain, so I think Ferros wouldn't work for my parent's background. Unless my father married into their royal family, which would mean that I would have had an easy escape into Ferros, which is not exactly what I want. So I'll have to figure out where my mother originated and what her political ties might have been.
So I looked through everyone's CSes, and there seems to be no indication of red hair anywhere. I plan to have Hark (my character) have auburn hair, a mixture of his mother's red hair and his father's brown/black (as is common in Gorgon). Basically I'd like to know which nation is more likely to have red hair.

I'd also like to know the geography of the nations in relation to one another. Which ones share a border, are any land-locked, etc.

The reason I'm asking this is because I'd like to have my parents be a political match between Gorgon and another nation, I just haven't decided which nation yet.

Nerendler, I personally think that what makes an RP go is to let the creative juices flow. (Dat rhymed.) Usually, I wouldn't put too much strain and effort on restrictions, history, magic and technology, races, nations, etc, because that limits a player to what YOU only have created. The players appreciate it better if you just let them fly. An example is my currently thriving RP down in my banner.@Innue, checkin' it out.

Well, I rarely ever completely restrict things like that. I always have a section of example races, their historical significance and characteristics. However, I always put in a part where I say, "If you have an idea for something that's not on here, great, tell me about it and I'll see if it fits."

The roleplays I've done I've rarely ever turned down someone else's design. The most notable exception is when I made a dark low-fantasy setting and somebody wanted to be a flying koala-bear mage. Yea, that got turned down real quick.

It is a challenge. It too share your frustration in finding stuff that fits my tastes that I think will last long enough that it is worth doing a bio for. That is why I stuck to GMing for a long time - especially given that there are a few GMs that I trust. Sometimes though, if you just need that design outlet, there is no shame in designing something and then releasing it (sink or swim). If it survives, great, if it doesn't, oh well. Part of it will come down to you being willing to let the project fail if it fails without letting it dishearten you. You can always, always pick it back up. I used to struggle with this frustration, but I've learned to move past it and just enjoy what I can from it.I would more than welcome you to participate in my roleplay in the offchance it strikes your fancy. It crosses a number of genres and we've been doing this thread off and on for over 8 years now. We are at a fresh restart right now (although we make sure it can always add players without making them feel left behind), so it'd be a good time to check it out. And, if you really just want a creative outlet for designing characters, worlds, etc, we did lose one of our main designers for this cycle. If you are as passionate as you say you are, we could maybe have you participate on that front primarily and do things at a more manageable pace for you IC (providing your design style fits with us). You can always catch me on the IRC or just shoot me a PM if you want to talk about it. ^.^

I'll definitely be looking into that within the next little while.
Yea, I like that idea of being childhood friends/distant cousins. That's something that we could work in pretty easily I think.

I have another question: Would it be possible to have nobles hire mages to train their son who has shown magic abilities? Like house mages and stuff? Basically, my character was not killed because he was off somewhere else being secretly trained to control his magical abilities, and the mages found out about the treachery and kept him hidden as he was trained over the years.
Thanks for answering my questions guys.

That would make you one year older than Edessa/Ilayna! I recommend reading her CS if you are making a Blackwater of that age area.

Of course. However, just because he's older doesn't make him a more suitable candidate for the throne, perhaps my character is on the furthest branch of the family tree. It's possible that you, or any of the other Blackwaters, wouldn't even know that he was part of the Blackwater lineage he's so far removed
Hey, I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind:
1. You said Guardians are immune to magic, but unable to use it. When you say immune, are you exerting a presence that prevents the casting of magic, or if someone shoots a fireball at you it just disappears?
2. Would you be willing to accept a new Blackwater? He’d be about 25 years old, and before the treachery he was something like 92nd in line to the throne. He wouldn’t be eligible to reclaim the throne as there are still a few Blackwaters that are closer in line.
3. Does magic have any downsides physically? IE, could I have a character who was 6’6”, 280lbs and built like brock lesnar be able to use blessing magics on himself?
4. How common are demonic possessions?
5. I feel like I’ve read somewhere that you said you would limit magics to 2 types, you mean I could have healing and blessings, not restos and destros right?
One of the things that I have been considering would be to basically design a roleplay that I would want to play in, and basically search for a GM that would want to take the reigns completely, and just be a player in the RP. Basically design the world and see if anyone wants to take it over for me. I wonder how that would pan out.
I guess I just need some advice. I’ve been lurking for a while and have yet to find an RP that tickles my fancy (at least one that seems accessible to new players). And even when I do find a roleplay, it just dies, usually within a week. Or they make one post and nothing else.
Now here’s my issue. I have a pretty hectic life. I work more than most. I typically don’t have time to post during work. And sometimes, when I come home from work, I really am not in the mood to roleplay, and if I force myself to, the quality of work often diminishes significantly. Which in turn causes me to really dislike the roleplay or my characters in the roleplay.
However, I find myself really interested in designing worlds and characters for a roleplay. But, due to my limited schedule I find that I just can’t put in the time to actually host an RP. I’ve tried a couple of times with a co-host who has every major plot point, and the general direction/storyline that I want to go. But that, unfortunately, brings me back to issue one, inactivity of a playerbase, where my co-host simply up and leaves.
Unfortunately, all these issues seem to add up to sporadic activity for me, and as a GM, it’s tough to have players stay with me. I usually feel pretty disappointed if I lose players as, most of the time, the major plot point hasn’t been hit in the story. Even when I’m just in the RP as a player, my characters usually have this big reveal that makes them something more than what they appear, and I rarely, if ever get to that point.
In the rare event that it continues, the story moves along what can only be described as a glacial pace.

Basically, I’m asking if anyone has experienced these issues, and I’d like any advice that you can give.

Additionally, I tend to enjoy fantasy, usually low or dark in nature, and may, in the near future, try my hand at GMing again.
Well, not necessarily the RP itself, but as a whole, I just didn't like it. It was a combination of the people I had accepted into the RP, life, and the fact that my character just seemed to fall flat in all areas. The RP itself was great, the story was great (In my opinion at least), the setting was cool, it was just a very well thought out roleplay, but I just couldn't bring myself to keep at it.
I had a character who claimed he was a vigilante, indeed his targets were evil men, but he had a passion for fire, and was not above torture for information. Basically, my intro involved body horror as he cut the eyelids, fingers, toes, etc off a criminal to find out where a a drug lord was, all the while laughing and just enjoying himself as he mentally played with the dude. Oh, then he burned him alive. Turned out he was at the top of an apartment building, mostly full of civilians. That didn't stop him, he burned the place to the ground in a manner in which nobody escaped. Women, children, pets. They all died in the fire he set. He also gunned down the fire truck that was on its way to help put the fire out. So yea. Not a particularly nice guy. His past wasn't even really tragic enough to justify losing his mind like he had.
