You're thinking of Spider-Man as a barely enhanced base human (I think). He's not.

He's gone toe to toe with Hulk (albeit that was mainly his webbing holding Hulk down.) and dodged bullets when the gun was literally an inch from his spine. He took a full-on punch from Colossus. He knocked out a Super(?) Tyrannosaurus Rex in the Savage Lands with a single punch while he was holding back.

Ahem......

He wouldn't really need Spider-Sense to whip Taskmaster's ass.
He's too strong, too fast, too .
No I'm not sorry for that pun.

Please, don't be sorry for that pun. It was amazing

Taskmaster has been known to hold his own against many a powered character, including Deadpool, the Thunderbolts, Draken (aka Wolverine Jnr) and Wolverine Snr.

Any man who can pull that off is pretty hardcore

Let's see.Superior, Astonishing, Ultimate, Sensational....and I think that's it. Unless we bring in stuff like "Giant-Size" Spider-Man and what not.

Oh, oh, I see an Ant-Man/Spiderman crossover in the mill......

Actually no.Using Spider-Sense alone, Peter knew the shape of a a giant bug creature thing he was fighting in complete darkness and how to dodge its attacks. Spider-Sense controls every aspect of Peter's movement and reactions if he allows it to. In basic terms, it gives him a three hundred and sixty degree sense of vision, which is what allows him to swing around New York without looking he's shooting.Spider-Sense is the ultimate "fuck you" card amongst street level heroes. He's beaten Captain America blindfolded, so on, so forth, using nothing but the sense. It's all a matter of Peter giving in to his instincts, and when he does, he's arguably unstoppable by anyone not of a higher power scale than him.

I can't believe we're having a debate on the validity on whether Spiderman's Spider-sense would beat Taskmaster's Photo-Reflexes.

Alright, I'll grant you. In terms of offensive, Spiderman's Spider sense would help kick ass. But what if Taskmaster went on the defensive? Merely using photo-reflexes to defend against? Spider sense wouldn't really help there.

Well, without Pete's Spider-sense or flexibility - neither of which Taskmaster has - all he'd be copying is the flailing limbs of a teenager, and it would be completely ineffective for combat puposes.

Yea that kinda killed it all in one swoop. It does say that under weaknesses though, if he ain't got the ability to do it, he ain't doing it.

Well, despite that it's stated in official sources that Taskmaster can't properly copy Spidey's movements, I was giving him some leniency given that this is an 'ultimization.' Pete's only been stopping common thugs in back alleys so far. My CS says that only rumors of Spidey exist at this point. His first arc will cover his public debut.

That's fine man. He's your character. Once he does debut, I imagine they'd be plenty for Masters to see anyway :P Plus I was actually going by what the Marvel Wiki said http://marvel.wikia.com/Tony_Masters_(Earth-616) True it is the 616 version but it appears he knows something.

Not to mention Spidey's style is extremely difficult to properly utilize without the almighty Spider-Sense.

The Spider sense only tells Spidey to move at that time, it doesn't tell him HOW to move. That's still down to personal habit. What foot does he push off when dodging? What fist does he swing with most often? Since most of these are quick reactions, the brain will often choose one and then begin using that over and over.

As regards Deadpool, true, but even Taskmaster has said that Deadpool is somewhat predictable, notably he always dodges to the left.
Just shot you a PM Gowi.

[quote=Rade= And, to nitpick, he can't have copied Spidey's moves as he's not yet public. Wouldn't have seen him fight ever.[/quote]

Well your CS did say he's been stopping various crimes in progress for over two months and what with smartphones and the Internet, I can't imagine there wouldn't be some video of him fighting off some robbers, but if you say so, he's out.

Who is this mystery character, pray tell?

Well good a time as any. BEHOLD!! Taskmaster!

Player Name: NightRaider

Character: Taskmaster

Aliases/Nicknames: Anthony “Tony” Masters, Captain Masters, the “Minister of Defence”

Alignment: Good (WTL)

Affiliation: S.H.I.E.L.D.

Character Origin:
Anthony Masters remembers very little of his own life. From what he has gathered from service files, he has served with the military and S.H.I.E.L.D. all of his adult life. He served in the US military in 1990s, particularly in the Gulf War. When he showed a perchance for stealth and close-combat in the field, he graduated from basic infantry to Covert Ops over his tenure and upon returning home from service, was offered a place at S.H.I.E.L.D. where he ran several successful missions. Prior to the incident that lead to his condition, he had just begun serving as S.H.I.E.L.D.’s chief hand-to-hand trainer.
The reason for the gaps in his memory is from an experimental serum, originally developed during WWII, which was modified by S.H.I.E.L.D. using notes of the original Super Soldier program. Masters volunteered to be the test subject. Repeated testing showed that Masters had developed the ability to memorise and duplicate any person’s movements merely by watching them. The side effects of the experiment were that this memorisation ability came at the cost of his personal memory. Masters began forgetting where he was, what the testing was for, even who he was. In order to bypass this, S.H.I.E.L.D. inserted a syntho-organic, micro-data storage device into his brain, that was linked to it but could not store or erase new memories from it, only access the ones stored on it. Masters has direct access to this device so he can manage what specific memories he retains. As a result, Masters requested that he put back on active duty under the new code name: Taskmaster.

Taskmaster Data Storage Unit Summary (Taskmaster Eyes Only)

Powers and Abilities:

1. Photographic Reflex Memory: Ability to duplicate almost any physical act that he sees done by someone else only once. This includes combat movements, sleight of hand, practice-based exercises (e.g. piano), marksmanship, archery, gymnastics and aerobatics. A side effect of the photographic reflex is that the speed at which the techniques are observed can affect his movements, increasing in velocity, giving him a burst of near-superhuman speed. He has also discovered that he can copy the vocal muscle movements of others to mimic their voice patterns.

2. Superior Athletic Capabilities: Taskmaster is a naturally athletic individual who has trained his body to near peak-perfection, even rivalling many superpowered heroes and villains in terms of athleticism and physical conditioning.

3. Expert Tactician: His years of Army, Covert and S.H.I.E.L.D. service have shown Masters a myriad of different tactical strategies and procedures, all of which is saved on his organic drive.

4. Equipment: Taskmaster utilizes a variety of S.H.I.E.L.D. tech, depending on the mission at hand. No matter the mission, he always carries the same equipment: a pair of SW1911, custom-built in black often with silencers attached and a modern double-edged shortsword, based on the classical xiphos used by the Greeks, updated with a modern grip and metal blade,a mix of titanium and secondary adamantium for cost-effectiveness. He also wears a custom bodysuit uniform, made of a prototype fibre mix similar to Kevlar but much thinner and elastic to allow easier hand-to-hand combat. Taskmaster made some personal modifications to the suit, reinforcing the forearm and shin pads to allow harder strikes and protect better when blocking. He also added a face mask to hide his identity, a skeletal version to induce fear in his rivals and because one of his pupils thought “it looked cool”.

Weaknesses:
1. Full Physical Duplication: Taskmaster cannot copy a feat that requires a power to accomplish. E.g. he may observe someone lifting a huge weight and be able to duplicate the correct movements but cannot replicate the superhuman strength to fully accomplish the act.
2. Energy/Projectile Duplication: Cannot duplicate any energy/projectile capabilities for the same underlying reasons.
3. Underlying Disciplines: He can mimic certain actions but not actions that occur after or are connected to the action. For example, he can mimic a dive into water but not how to swim (unless he observes the swimming action) or mimicking a song that he observed on the piano but he cannot compose his own as he does not know the musical scales.
4. Random Amnesia: When Taskmaster copies a new action, it copies over old personal memories (except those saved in his organo-drive) However the organo-drive can only hold a small amount of information due to the intricacy of the surgical procedure, the device could not be that large. So if Taskmaster learns new information, then duplicates a new action, this may copy over the new information. The override is random in what memories it goes over.

Why do I want to play this character?:
While I love the mainstream superpowered characters like anyone else, I love 2 other types of characters in the Marvel (and indeed, the overall comic) Universe: the lesser known superpowered characters (such as Deadpool) and the characters that have nothing but their wits and maybe a slight edge. I feel Taskmaster fits into the former. I became fascinated with Taskmaster after learning of him through the Deadpool comics. I feel he would be an excellent character to play in the roleplay as his backstory is very vague and he is one character who has not been revisited and rehashed to death, meaning many avenues have not been explored and I intend to do this.

What do I plan on doing with the character:
Not giving too many details away, I plan to reinvent Taskmaster as a “good” but more in the vein of the down-and-dirty hero, the antithesis of Captain America, the hero who does what needs to be done for the good of everyone.

The short answer? No, though it is certainly on the cards in the long run of things. One of the problems with the last game was the lack of character interaction at play. Players kept to their own corners and produced (very good) singular stories for the most part. So, if it comes to it then it could be a possibility.

Oh of course, I wasn't expecting anything right out of the gate nor was I expecting full arcs to already planned. On the cards or no were pretty much the two answers I was expecting.

I don't think something like this should be measured in quantity, but in quality. You've proved with both an exceptional sample post and new post that you can write and your attitude is great. I have no problems with clearing you for another. It's more for repeat offenders/players who scrape through the CS process (like me, actually... I suck).

Well thanks, hopefully I can keep that level up, this is only my 3rd Adv RP, with the 1st's GM just disappearing and the other players returning to their regular stuff and the 2nd was just beginning when the site originally blinked out of existence. So the track record isn't good so far. That's great. Again, it's more a minor character I want to bring into the spot light and also a redo, so I should have the CS up by the end of the night once I reread it, fine-tune it and ship it.

I think you've answered your own question there. Communication is key. Discuss ideas for collaborations. Piratepad together if it helps. Don't assume anything.

I don't think I did. I answered my question in relation to inter-player interactions. I was talking about intra-player interactions. Take Gowi, for example. He has Captain America (a Hero) and Black Cat (a WTL). Now say he writes a story or single scene involving those two. Are there any rules or anything he must follow in doing this? Or is it simply treated as interactions with an NPC in a normal post is?

Also, PiratePad?

This is an idea I have toyed with in my head a little. It might simply be a bump of prosperity per month - I don't need to be over doing anything. Glad to see that like minded fellows flock together.

Indeed we do, indeed we do.

It wouldn't hurt, once you're not spamming it, worst case is we don't get anyone new, best case is we get loads of new people.
I have a couple of things I'd like to discuss;

First, will there be any GM mediated, encompassing story-lines? Like the Civil War event or the Marvel Avengers films where we have our own stories but at some point, something happens that affects us all and we have to have a Super Friends team-up? Just curious.

Secondly, I've been working on a 2nd character sheet (there are few RPs on the new site that have caught my eye so I've been focused on this one a lot) but there was mention of a probation period for new players before they get a 2nd character. I was wondering if this applies to the new incarnation seeing as it's just starting off and if so, how long is it?Is it measured in weeks or posts?

Thirdly, in relation to the above question, what's the rule on "metagaming" here? Obviously in the Marvel Universe, every character has interacted with one another in some way so I imagine the same thing will happen here. So what is the rule on a player who has two (even three) characters that interact? I ask because the 2nd character I've written up may end up interacting with Deadpool. (I do understand the rule involving another players character, but I'd assume it's to the discretion of the individual player of how they allow their characters written by others, seeing as it can severally shorten a post if they have to wait for a response. That can be brought to PMs etc etc)

Finally, I think that the Int. Ch. should be bumped every so often. The Ints are where people look to join RPs and with new ones popping up all the time, it might be good to show other players who are looking that we're still open. It can be daunting to join RPs that look as if they've started for new guys (believe me I know). On the old RPGuild, I knew that this was the definitive Marvel Universe RP on the site, dozens of players, hundreds of IC posts to read through. It was as quality as any comic series. I'd like the RP to reach that level again.

Ok, gushy, newbie /rant over. Any/all reply/criticisms/shouting-at-me welcome.

Thanks. Logan's amnesia has always been one of my least favorite aspects of the character. IMO it was an easy excuse for his violent ways to continue. I prefer a character that's lived for a century and a half and remembers every single person he's killed. I think it adds more to the character. I'd rather have the man who knows the animal is in the back of his mind and tries to keep it there rather than the man who lets the animal always has control because eff it that's all he knows. Also, I'd say Jean is around 27-28. She was really young when Logan found her.

As much as I love Wolverine, I also feel that the loner, forgotten past versions have been done to death as well. I like the idea that he's a father figure to Jean. We'll see how the violent Logan and parental Logan co-exist.

Also, since you've gone for the Weapon X history and we have backgrounds that cross slightly, would you like to discuss the possibility of team-up/crossover arcs for the future, if you so desire of course? I'll PM you some details I have for ideas tomorrow when I collect them.
