@Afro Samurai It will do. Welcome to the team.
@Afro Samurai Sorry for not replying earlier, but I'd tone Walter a bit down. A form of photosynthesis is a good point, but so many powers, as pointed by the others, could be unbalancing. I'd lessen the number of his powers, or his strenght.
@Afro Samurai We are still in the beginning. Out war hasn't even started properly.
@MegaOscarPwn Son? Das ist der Sohn. Du hast ein "H" vergessen, gut Herr. Und können Sie mir verstehen?
@shylarah Welcome to the army, the place where helping others can be fruitful. On one occasion during my service the platoon's motor biker helped the platoon's medic. The medic got some burning oil into his hands, and the biker helped him by extinguishing a fire and guiding the medic to the first aid station. I was resting in a nearby tent when this happened.
@BingTheWing Technically, it is. Do you have a character in mind?
@ONL I carried the bazooka and an assault rifle. Here in Finland the military service is still mandatory, and one can serve either six (rank-and-file), nine (specialists) or twelve months (NCOs and reserve offivers). I served the six months, and left as a private.
@ONL Then he could have an SMG.

Story time: oftentimes, team/squad members are assigned certain weapons, for example I served in the Finnish Defence Forces as a bazooka man in a infantry company, assigned specifically a heavier type of a bazooka.
@shylarah Lėo Major, the man responsible for the liberation of Zwolle, twice decorated with the DSO, but refused the first, because reasons (read: Bernard Law Montgomery would have handed him the medal, but Major disliked the man).

As for the Karabiners, I'd make them train with both a Springfield and a Karabiner. Also, a scoped Garand is also an option for short-to-medium distances, as it has one clear advantage on the Kar 98k. Of course, I will not force to pick an American weapon, but think about it. And what kind of modifications are we speaking of?

@ONL I had in mind that we started with standard gear, i.e. Garands, Stens and B.A.R.s, but weapons can also be procured on site. If your character, for example, finds himself cold on ammunition, just pick a dead enemy's weapon.
@MegaOscarPwn An answer for Óscar's pondering on the prize: a vintage M1911 is not as general issue as a Garand or other rifle.

And as a side note, most of the team are using Garands as their standard weapons during training, if anyone has been pondering it. David will probably use a B.A.R. as his weapon.
