Nathan Collins winced as daylight hit his eyes. He was not just waking up, he had just emerged from the subway station, and he had not enjoyed his first ever ride on the New York subway. It was not a trip he was looking forward to making every day. After moving from England his parents now lived outside of Manhattan, in a fancy house in Long Island. But as no other school would take him, and their new house was too far away they were paying for an apartment for him in Hell’s Kitchen, under specific rules of no parties and random spot-checks. He had to keep the place tidy, clean, and drug and alcohol free because they had keys, and could come and search his apartment when he wasn’t even there.

Once his eyes readjusted to the sunlight he checked the time. School started at 9am, and it was now 9:10, and he was still a 10 minute walk from the school.
“ Fuck’s sake...” he sighed under his breath. He wouldn’t particularly be bothered about being late if it weren’t for the fact this was his first day. He pulled a small tin from out of his bag, and opened it up. It was his cigarette case, of which it contained multiple roll ups he had pre-rolled the night before. He placed one to his lips and lit it, before putting the lighter and the case back into his bag. He continued down the busy streets to the school. As he saw the main gate but hadn’t quite reached it yet, he stopped, took the last few drags of his cigarette and stomped it out under his shoe. He placed a piece of chewing gum in his mouth, and pulled some deodorant from his bag, quickly spraying himself before dropping it back in his bag. He headed through the main gate and into the reception area, walking up to the main desk.

“ Hey, err, it’s my first day, I’m new here. I know I’m really late, but I need, like my timetable or whatever you call it?” He said to the receptionist.
“ Huh, English kid. Name?” The receptionist responded. Nathan gave her his name and she handed him some papers, which he rifled through to find his timetable. First lesson, English literature. It took him a further 10 minutes to find the room, by this time it was 9:35. He poked his head through the door, looking at the class, and the teacher, before stepping inside completely.

“ Uh, I’m sorry I’m so late, I’m just new to the school, new to the city. New to the whole country I suppose…” Nathan gave an awkward laugh. He looked around the class, seeing students whispering to each other, presumably about the new kid with the english accent. He looked back to the teacher.
“ Is there something you need to do, ‘cause I’m late, or do I just sit down? Is there somewhere you want me to sit, or do I just sit anywhere? Sorry, unsure how this whole thing works.” Nathan stood there at the front of the class awkwardly, unsure of what to do. He looked back at the students in the class, a few of them standing out. There was some emo looking dude joking around with a girl at the back. Another girl with bright purple hair and a mixed race girl sitting next to her. Was she mixed race or fully black but just light skinned? Probably not the first thing to ask if he spoke to her. Some other guy with long, frizzy hair. Hopefully one, some, or all of these people would be good to make friends with.
I've got my first post written up but I just want full and proper acknowledgement that I'm accepted first.

Edit: I'm going to bed pretty soon and I want to get my post in. I'm going to go off the assumption my character is fine and post my intro post. I can always edit it out if there is a problem.
I'll get another post in after the timeskip. I probably should have posted by now but Chainz is just gonna bide his time. I want him to eventually have a sort of uneasy alliance with the reformists. He'll help them out but on his own terms.
Name: Nathan Collins
Age: 17
Class: Junior
Hometown: Manchester, United Kingdom
New here?: Yes, just moved.
Appearance:
Favorite class: Math
GPA: 3.8
Personality: Nathan’s intelligence in school betrays his lifestyle outside of it. In school he seems like a good student academically, if perhaps a little frustrated and unmotivated to do anything above the bare minimum. Debate teams and sports club will certainly not be a part of Nathan’s time at Central Park East. It takes a while to get to know him, but when you do he turns out to be a wisecracking and sarcastic know it all, though he does this mainly for the sake of entertaining others, and most of his jokes are self-deprecating, or oftentimes him doing stupid shit just to get a reaction. Already exposed to cigarettes, alcohol and weed during his time in his home country, Nathan’s keen to find the nearest dealer and get his hands on some of the green.
History: Nathan was born to fairly affluent parents, both owning their own small businesses, his father in IT and his mother owning her own salon. As his intelligence shone through in his early years he was pressured to do well, which frustrated him. In the summer between his final year at school in England he experimented with alcohol and weed, and during his final year his motivation to do well was just lost. His parents eventually decided to move over to New York City, both for their own personal business reasons, and to get Nathan away from the ‘bad influences’ he had fallen in with back home in England. He lives in an apartment to himself in Hell's Kitchen while his parents live just outside the city in Long Island. They have keys to his apartment however, and plan on random spotchecks, even when he isn't there.
I'm about to start writing up my character. A quick couple of questions due to the fact that I don't quite understand the american school system.

Your characters, Ember is a junior, Hayden is a senior, but they're in the same classes? Is that just juniors and seniors or how does that work with sophomore and freshmen? (Although my character will probably be a junior or a senior, it seems like everybody else is so maybe it's just best it's mainly focused on juniors and seniors?)

Also, GPA, I read that's it up to 4.0, is it the higher side of it the better? Because from reading character bios the more smart kids seem to be higher and the burnouts seem to be lower.
Right it's late at night here in England so I'll get a character written up in the morning. No chance that even if they did get their ccharacters written up you'd still consider accepting my character?
Dammit. So it's too late to throw my hat in?
@Weird Tales

I know, I was mostly joking anyway as I don't really know enough about the whole IRA situation to comment on it properly. And I know they gave a warning about the bomb and most people got evacuated.
@Weird Tales Bloody IRA, they bombed my city just a couple of weeks after I was born.
The Gone series by Michael Grant is one of my favourite book series. It's about a beach town in California where everyone over the age of 15 disappears, and a sphere of energy covers the town so no one can get in or out. Some of the kids start developing powers, and things get out of hand. Obviously none of the above is realistic but I find it realistic in how it portrays what would happen, there's kids who are playing for power, there's the problem of food running out, kids drinking, smoking, taking drugs, sex, pregnancy, plenty of gruesome deaths, mental health issues, etc. The books have a glowing endorsement from Stephen King on the back, so that's always something.
