So please prepare yourselves for a Hunter's Exam like no other. We plan to test you in every way we can, so that when you receive your license, you can proudly say that you are the best of the best..." -Excerpt from a packet applicants received upon arriving at the test site.
Timeline of Major events.
(Also, time is being measured in Hunter Exam sessions, cause I couldn't figure out what year this took place in canon )
- Hunter Exam session #288-Killua Zoldyck successfully knocks out all other examinees during the very first test.
- Hunter Exam Session(s) #289-#311-Hunter Exam applications have been dropping off, due to the almost entire Examinee group of Session #288 being disqualified in the first round, creating a lack of manpower to police the Nen using criminals.
- Hunter Exam Session(s) #293-#316-Criminal activity, especially for those who have and use Nen, has been slowly increasing over the last 20 some years. Several smaller countries have had their government slaughtered and replaced with a totalitarian dictatorship or left to anarchy.
- Hunter Exam Session(s) #297-#317-World leaders, the Hunter Council, Academic leaders, Scientists, Military personnel, and others from around the world all came together several times over these years discussing the issue and trying, and failing to find a satisfactory solution for everyone. Finally the Hunter Council declared they would increase Hunter ranks by several levels. Explaining the idea of inviting powerful Non-Hunters, as well as Magical Beasts who were capable of using Nen (for instance Kirikos and Chimera Ants) who have at the very least neutral morals, and an understanding as to why they needed to fix this as soon as humanly possible. The group disbanded unhappy again, but the Chairman of the Council was pleased. He figured this would be fun for a while, if not the only way to solve the issue.
- Hunter Exam Session #317- Present day, the Examinees are preparing to head towards their futures, all sure of their inevitable success.

Anything Else?
- RESPECT! Respect yourselves, your intelligence, the people around you, and their intelligence, and me and my intelligence. Keep drama out of the OOC and firmly in the IC where it belongs.
- NO MARY SUES OR GARY STUES PLEASE. That's an obvious one, but I am still stating it, just in case.
- No using/controlling of other player's characters at any time. EXCEPT, if they give you permission to do so, or you're a manipulator who successfully completed the steps required to take over control of the character. (This also requires permission to do though.)
- Posting! You are expected to post IC at least once if not twice a week, the post should be at minimum three paragraphs, five to ten sentences long. Posting three five sentence paragraphs will not cut it though. NOW LISTEN HERE! Sometimes writer's block strikes us stupid and we can't type nothing up, it happens, I understand, I'm guilty of it. Post what you can and try to make up the difference with the quality of the post, or with your next post.
- You can create a Magical Beast who can use Nen, how ever pay attention to the CS I'll be posting, because there are a few blanks to fill that require more thought. (For instance one of the blanks is "How did (insert Magical Beast here) learn of their species ability to use Nen?)
- *Some* foul language is acceptable however try to keep in mind that not everyone is comfortable with it. (Also, call me out if I get bad with foul language cause...I've got a sailor's tongue sometimes.)
- ROMANCE is a-ok, even encouraged, sex however, is not. Refrain from living your fantasies out in the IC. Everyone does not want to stumble onto a sex scene...and by everyone I mean me.
- Please @mention me at the end of your character sheet, so that I can make sure I see it :)
- THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE, have fun.
- To prove you read the rules please have the answer to the following question placed in a hider on your CS. "Have I used a double negative at any time in the rules?"
What is Nen?
Nen is the active use of the life energy that surrounds and fills us, also known as 'aura'.
What is aura?
Aura is the 'life energy' we all produce. Until the aura is excited either through intense study, exercise, and meditation or a single jolt of someone else's Aura, while they are in a state on Ren.
What is Ren?
Ren is a state you achieve after master Ten, and Zetsu. Ren is the point where you focus inwards and visualize energy, and when you have visualized enough, you release it in a focused shape around you, acting as armor and weapon
What is Ten?
Ten is the first part of of training you complete when training Nen. Ten is the ability to manifest your aura at will, and allows you to control it and even allowing you to prevent it from being released to the air around you.
What is Zetsu?
Zetsu is the ability to erase your presence, or more accurately erase your aura. However, while in this state you are vulnerable to attack. Good for sneaking around.
What is Hatsu?
Hatsu means to act. Hatsu, is when you put Ten, Zetsu, and Ren into effect. Hatsu can also be seen as a special ability of some kind.
There are several more Nen skills that I can add, but I'll wait to add them until they start coming up in the IC.
There are 6 specifications within Nen that I will now go into.
An Enhancer focuses on...well Enhancing stuff. The "special" abilities for an Enhancer would be to strengthen physical attacks, strengthen physical defense, and strengthen weapons and shields beyond their natural physical limitations. While all Nen-Users can do this, an Enhancer will have the easiest time doing it, as well as having the most dramatic effects.
There is theory to support the idea that Enhancers can also enhance sound waves, emotions, ideas, their aura, even the aging process, there is reason to believe an Enhancer can enhance everything to beyond natural limits.
Emitters focus on projectiles and projectile abilities, they rule distance fighting, capable of shooting their aura at their enemies. But they aren't to to far from the Transmuter specification, while that specification will never be something easy for them to do, they can give special effects to their Emissions.
What I mean is, they can shoot a ball of aura, that's been slightly altered into acid, causing two types of damage instead of just one. However if I were to use percentages to show effectiveness it'd start as
100% effective in Emitter
30% effective in Transmuter.
After spending time working on mixing the two it'll look like this, at least while using the mixed specification abilities.
80-90% effective in Emitter
50% effective in Transmuter
Not a lot, but definitely more than enough to give a sharp bite to attacks with limited loss in their natural Specification.
A Transmuter can change their aura. Sounds simple enough. At first. However a Transmuter at 100% effectiveness would be a formidable foe. They can turn their aura into acid, fire, electricity, storms, an ocean, the list goes on and on. Yes, there must be a strong physical, emotional, and mental connection to it, they are changing the very energy that gives them life into this material.
So while a Transmuter is limited in only being able to change their aura to match something, the right choice and most specifically the strongest choice occurs to them quickly.
There is reason to believe that Transmuters may also act changes onto their actual bodies, that they are not limited, except to what is "them" (such as their body or their aura.)
A Manipulator is probably one of the more easily understandable specifications. The ability allows one to control the movements, actions, thoughts, desires, so on so forth. In almost all cases there must be a an action, or controller, some kind limitation to control a living being. However I animate objects don't have their own desires, and as such you don't need to have some power up to control it.
Conjurers are able to conjure something from their aura, now this is similar to the idea of Transmuter on the surface, however the two are very different. A Transmuter changes the aura to match the material, a Conjurer literally creates whatever it was. A living creature, chains, a rose garden, whatever their mind can dream up. There is no true limit to what can be conjured up, however to be successful they'd have to be as intimately knowledgeable of it as they can be.
Specialists are special. They could be drawing 100% out of every single other specifications or have an entirely unique ability all their own (such as seeing the future, or being supernaturally good at some particular skill set) Not a lot is known about Specialists, they aren't common and what they can do is entirely unique to them.
Limitations and Rules are a good way to truly unlock potential within your Nen abilities. For every additional step that must be taken, the stronger the final product, or by limiting who you can affect or when you cannot use it, or just any limitations on the ability at all and you raise the strength.
However, watch out. There's always a cost if you break the limits you set.
Someone pointed out that the fact that not everyone is automatically starting with Nen makes some characters OP. However, this was something canon did, not everyone started with Nen. Also, Nen may or may not help you get your license, it depends on what your abilities are.
Also, you have the ability to choose whether you start with Nen or not.
If you have any ideas, story arcs, evil villains, or whatever please go ahead and PM them to me, because I want this yo be OUR story. Now while some of these may not be able to be used (for whatever reason) I'll try to give each of them a chance to shine if I can :)
OK, I believe that's everything for now, I hope to see you in here soon :)
