Sera was walking down the ships corridors, when she was approached by one of the ships passengers, she wasn't sure who it was although he did introduce himself as Ben. It was a strange meeting, he did a customary bow which showed Sera that he knew of her religion, it wasn't infrequent but it still warmed her heart. He told her of how the scriptures had been read to him as a child. His next step however took Sera by surprise, he took he hand to kiss it. He couldn't help herself, she pulled her hand away, not with too much force but still enough and she started to giggle uncontrollably. "Wo De Tian A!", she managed to make out, she didn't often speak in Chinese, although if it were something some may consider inappropriate for a priestess such as herself to say, although it was still understood by most, nevertheless she continued, "What in the 'verse are you doing?!". It wasn't that she was offended, she just couldn't get her head around this sort of thing, she was too childish. She didn't get a chance to receive and answer, the captain had called for lunch, she turns to this Ben character, "Come on, let's go eat. You can tell me all about yourself and your ex-catholic parents later,".
I accidently hit enter. I edited it with the full post.
I... I can't god damn Craig's hitting on Sera. I couldn't read it without sniggering. Time to make Sera just as good at romance as me.
"I'll have to take a pass on that," Sera said "Preachin' and talking about life are one in the same and I'm sure you didn't aim to come out into the black in to hear the views of a high priestess from a religiosity you don't have no ties to." With that she gave a small bow and turned to walk away, "If you ever change your mind about repenting you can always come to find me," she added before she had strayed to far. All there was to do now was go back to her quarters before the ship was called to eat.
I'll try to post everyday, I'm still in school though so some days I may just not show up to post especially with timezones.
As the ship began lift off, Sera was walking past one of the passengers bunks. She wast paying much attention but she did hear its inhabitant greet her, "Afternoon Sister," he said. Sera turned to him and nodded, "Afternoon sir," she greeted him with a smile, was that a harp he just holding? "How can I help you? Looking to repent some sins?" She rarely did confessions or anything all that private, that was handled by the lower priests, even then it was more of a thing for the 'verses Christians, nevertheless she continued, "Or was that just a formality?". It wouldn't have surprised her, people think that forgiveness was like waiting for a train on an asteroid, it would be a miracle if one turned up. While people did follow religion, Sera often feared it was them keeping their options open incase the idea of someone watching over everything you did turned out to be more than just that - an idea.
Coolio. Also MFW as I'm about to post I realise that Shen had moved on, it should have been transposed to monologue properly so I could still post it. Also, if you want an interactive map of the verse there's the new Cortex companion for that firefly game that's coming out: https://keepflying.com/cortex/ I'm amazed it wasn't posted as a resource.
It wasn't long until the ships doctor finished loading his cargo up and decided to talk to Sera, he was a kind man, cared more about others than most folk out on the border planets, the rim was filled with even worse. If truth be told, Sera avoided getting off on New Melbourne. All there was were fish. If she'd wanted to sample some sturgeons and their caviar then she would have gone planet side straight away. Besides, the local colour 'round here didn't want a preacher like Sera anywhere near them. They aim to keep to the usual gods of Christianity and the like. Admittedly, people out this far from the Alliance planets are more lenient to the newer religions but still, nothing that she'd spend my time with after her last sermon. As far as she concerned the sooner they got this ship airborne the better. At least out in the black there isn't the stench of fish in the air. Sera stood, stretching due to the fact that she hadn't moved a whole lot since they landed planet side, putting her veil back on she started to make her way around the cargo bay, maybe someone would make conversation on her way to her quarters.
Sera was huddled on one of the walkways of the ship, her leather bound book lay open beside her and her veil was at her side, allowing her hair to hang free from its restraint. She watched with interest as the ships doctor loaded on a crate of his own, it seemed like a strenuous job. It was all so surreal to Sera, sure she lived on the outer planets all her life but she had never travelled around for anything other than her religious duties, being on this boat was like being in an entirely different world. The man who wanted to buy passage or instance was too well dressed for your common planet hopper. He seemed fresh from the core as fe as Sera was concerned. A year out here at most from the get up, what did he need a shipping so badly that he'd use this sort of boat for it? The captain and doctor acted if this was normal enough so Sera didn't auras action it, electing instead to return to her scriptures. They were typical in most places, the divines were omnipotent and the like, creating human kind and the entirety of the 'verse. It was pretty clear on most of the sin front as well, no stealing, no outright murder (although as far as Sera could figure out justified self defence was a perfectly fine), rape and adultery were big no-no's too. The scripture weren't incredibly lengthy but they were difficult to memorise, even for a high priestess like herself. She pretended to skim through them, but in reality it was a facade to observe the ships crew closer.
I just checked, my maths is wrong. I didn't factor months into it when I figured it out. I'll make the amendments now.
