How Did You Get Into Roleplaying?

I started on the Rp forums on Neopets then I moved to GaiaOnline through out junior high and high school. I spent a little time on BlueMoon but things changed once I went to college. I stop Rping for a while then came here. I guess my progression was from a simple Rp style. (Ex: <hops down from tree scratching behind her Tanuki ears>) to what I do now. Of course I, like many young people who start off that way, had a bad tendency to make highly over adorned characters or over powered ones. Learning the key to making an interesting character is a constant on-going process. I still worry about making generic and boring characters but I would like to think that I'm getting at least a little better with this.

It was a wet and sleepy Sunday morning in the city. Only a few cars rolled up and down the streets at this hour. Of course there are a few places that are up and ready to take on the day. One of those places was the 'Fluer De Grande' flower shop. A young lady could be seen dragging a large garbage bag out towards the back alley's dumpster. She heaved the thing in and leaned against the dumpster to regain her breath. Her long white hair was damp from the rain. A long sigh escaped her lips as her mind lingered on a reoccurring dream she had been having for the past few days. She was falling, no gliding among the tall buildings. It was terrifying yet thrilling at the same time. It was almost like the wind was playing with her. Picking her up and letting her fall over and over again. She had been having this dream for almost a week and they were all she could talk about to the people at work and her aunt who was the only family she ever knew. Now done with the trash, the girl went back into the shop and pulled her apron from the hook near the door. The embroidery over the chest read 'Elly' in silvery wispy lettering. It was the weekend so she wouldn't need any help opening the shop that day. They hardly had any customers before noon so it allowed for her to get a lot of prep-work done. She had already swept the floors and threw out the old wilted plants that didn't sell along with the trimmings from dressing other plants. Now she had the task of tidying up, which was where she would meticulously comb over the displays to see if anything needed to be cleaned or adjusted. Once everything appeared to be in order, she slowly sat behind the bar with a large cup of coffee. There was something about Sunday mornings that was so relaxing to Elly, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

It has been little over a hundred years since the so-called ‘extinction’ of dragons. Actually, instead of dying off, they learned to take the shape of human and hide among them. There has been one slight problem though. Lately females have been giving birth to children that look human. This caused a lot of parents to give up their young to to human adoption centers. Believing that they were giving their children the best opportunity, they put them in the worst danger. The children were human-born dragons, which meant rather than being born a dragon and learning to take a human form later in life, they did it in reverse. Their dragon forms along with their in-human abilities would remain dormant until they reached adult age. When that time comes, their human bodies would be forced away by their inner dragon forms. Writing pet peeves

I hate it when people write one or two sentences then hit enter twice and write more. They usually do this to make their post look larger than it really is and it's super annoying. I don't mind if you do this for long streams of dialogue, but please be responsible with it.

Do you proof-read your post before posting it? Like run it through a word document or have a browser that shows spelling errors? I also mean proofreading to make sure everything sounds like it makes sense.

Example:

"Know, I dont no what your talkin abot." He scowld sitting back in hi chair.

Also, I like discussing a lot of things in OCC chat about plot and the direction of things. I don't like it when people assume things and throw a huge wrench into the plot without telling me. I'd rather discuss things than risk having to ask you to re-write stuff because it doesn't make sense or doesn't work with the plot.

Things that don't make sense for the genre and setting really annoy me. Especially if you throw it in a huge post that you've spent a lot of time and hard work on. I hate to be the one to tell you to re-write something because it doesn't work with the plot. I don't mind discussing stuff beforehand to see if we can find a way to make it work, but it has to fit the plot settings.

I don't like slice of life pattern writing. It's really boring when someone is constantly writing about getting up, making breakfast, doing something, eating lunch, do something else, eating dinner, and going to sleep. I don't mind if there is a good reason for your character to be doing stuff like this. Like a task that they are doing that leads into a deep thought process to better explain the character or if they are doing something that will lead them to interact with another character.

I also really like to have someone write about their character with personality. Just writing about them talking, then moving, and that's it isn't very interesting. I want to see what your character is thinking about.

Another big pet peeve is when writers make their characters overpowered and write all our character's problems away. Say my character broke her leg with the bone sticking out, they would write that their character just so happens to know how to give someone perfect medical attention, instantly has a medical kit and fixes her leg within a matter of minutes. I hate it when people poof plot obstacles away like that.

There is a girl who has a pet frog that can speak. She has had that frog since she was a little girl and is good friends with him. Sadly, her parents decided to send her off to a boarding school of sorts and pets are not allowed. She is forced to leave her dear friend behind. This leaves the poor frog heartbroken along with the girl. She promises to come visit during the holidays and kisses him goodbye on the head before leaving. In the short minutes after the girl has left, the frog transforms into a handsome young man. Now in a new body, he decides to follow his friend and attend her school, but is afraid to tell her who he really is.
(This is a sort of Princes and the Toad story I guess.)

Zelda Ocarina of time-

The hero of time has just been sent out to Hyrule town. During this time he makes friends with a young girl. The girl was a run away and only trusted him, but that trust was broken when he was put into a deep slumber for seven years. Now bitter and manipulated by Gannon, she is one of the most fierce warriors in Gannon's arsenal.
((You can either play as Link or an original character that happens to be the hero of time. Not Link exactly. I'll be playing either as a run away Malon or a Original character your call. ^___^ ))

Zelda Magora's Mask-

The hero of time is sent into another world in search of a long lost friend. Once he finds himself in Clock Town, he notices that a lot of the people there look like the people he left behind in Hyrule including the love he once had until she disappeared shortly after defeating Gannon. Will he fall for this version or continue his search?
