"I have been here for fifteen long, hard years. I do not hold it against my race, for the slavers would wipe us out if we made no tribute. As for why you- all of you- are here: I do not know. Perhaps some of you incurred many debts, or are criminals, or were simply unlucky. It matters not why. All that matters is that you remain strong in spirit."
"Certainly, brother." Shah-Nahul looked to the other gladiators.
"Some of you-", he said, "-are weak. You do not hear the drums of battle deep within your hearts. Some of you will break, driven mad with fear and sorrow. I have seen this thing many times. Do not lose hope, brother."
There was a loud CLANG as Shah-Nahul slammed a hand against his breastplate.
"For I have seen men such as you rise to great heights as often as I have seen them fall to deepest depravity. Stand strong, brother, and fate is yours to command."
Shah-Nahul picked the man up by his neck and looked him straight in the eye. "Fight." he said.
"Cast aside your old life; you shall have no need of it here. No longer are you a baker, but a warrior. Fight as you have never fought before, brother. Tear off your arm and use it as a club if you must, but do not give into despair. Feel no fear, no sorrow, no pain. Revel in blood, and you shall triumph." He put the man down.
"Now, pit-brothers! On your feet! Today, we build new lives, and fight as true men!"
+"I dunno about this one, Billy. I don't trust her."+ The sword said as Billy wiped off the viscera.
"Is this about the Render?", Billy asked.
+"No. Well, okay, maybe a little. She totally-"+
"Sword-", Billy responded as he retrieved Sunset, "-for the last time, there is no such thing as kill-stealing. It's dead."
He shouldered the pot and walked over to the group, sticking out his hand to the newcomer. "Pleased to have you along! I'm Billy Bane, and this is my sword, which is called, uh, sword."
+"Bah!"+
"Don't mind him. He's just mad that I don't kill everything. So what's your name?"

Honestly, I don't think any of us really cares about balance. Combat is RPed and we all know each other pretty well, so there shouldn't be any problems. Plus pretty much all of the combat in this is made up of puzzle bosses.
And you're not a shit-stirrer, dude. It's perfectly okay to give criticism and express your opinions here.
A wickedly clawed hand, covered in shaggy, matted fur, took hold of Akira's arm.
"On your feet, pit-brother!", a voice growled as Akira was dragged to his feet, "I am Shah-Nahul, and today we fight as one!"
Name: Shah-Nahul

Gender: Male

Age: 25

Race: Mastonoid

Racial Traits: Mastonoids were originally a genespliced slave-race created for war and hard labor, and it shows. They look like humanoid Woolly Mammoths, standing roughly eight feet tall on average with wickedly sharp talons. Less obvious is their incredible ability to regenerate and overactive adrenal glands.
tl;dr Berserker elephant wookies

Appearance:

Personality: Shah-Nahul is built like a goddamn tank, and he knows it. As such, he has a habit of taking hits meant for his "pit-brothers". He has a very friendly, boisterous personality, both in and out of the ring, and makes a point of showing new gladiators the ropes. Generally speaking, he will not finish off other gladiators outside of fairly specific circumstances, such as killing a good friend.

Occupation: Slave-Gladiator

History: Shah-Nahul was taken to the pits at a fairly early age as tribute to the slavers who would visit his world every ten years or so. Since then, he has risen through the ranks and become a crowd favorite due to his loud and grandstanding attitude, and his unwillingness to kill those who put up a decent fight has made a good impression on many of the owners, as well. His ranking, however, is extremely low due to said willingness, and as such he shares a cellblock with many of the new guys.

Skills: Shah-Nahul is an excellent fighter, but has few other skills due to being effectively raised in the arena.

Equipment: Some scavenged body armor

Aspirations: Shah-Nahul is perfectly fine living in the arena, and only seeks to test his prowess against any and all challengers.

Philosophy: Shah-Nahul is all about the fights, and is generally quite friendly with opponents before and after a match. He considers killing a waste, as it deprives oneself of rematches down the line, where both competitors can see how they have improved. Of course, if you've violated the sacred jaghannat, a code of ritual combat common in gladiatorial circles, you're a dead man/woman/whatever.
So I'm thinking of starting up a game in either Active Exploits or AFMBE diceless. Should I make it in the Systems section, or are diceless systems considered close enough to freeform that I can make my thread in one of the freeform sections?
I'm also here.
Name: Billy Bane and his Wondrous Talking Sword

Gender: Boy

Age: 14

Race: Human

Character Concept: Peasant kid with a magical talking sword

Physical Appearance: He’s a kid with short-cut dark brown hair, sort of short for his age; he dresses like an 18th century farmer: breeches, shirt, jacket, and cap with a scabbard at his hip or back depending on the situation, though his sword is usually kept in hand, much to Billy’s chagrin.

Equipment: Magic talking sword, scabbard, burlap sack, some turnips, jerky, bread crusts, a bit of hard cheese, waterskin, coinpurse, whetstone, tinderbox, bandages, fireproof urn with Sunset's still-living head

Personality: Billy doesn't want to go adventuring. Billy just wants to stay home and plant turnips and play hoop-and-stick and not go down into some horrible murder cave with a bunch of total strangers. Sadly for Billy, his sword has other ideas.

Goals: 1.) Get this adventure over with
2.) Get home in one piece and make sure the turnip harvest is coming in alright
3.) Get rid of this sword (Not actually possible)
+1.) Fulfill a nebulously-defined prophecy+
+2.) Have adventures+
+3.) Kill stuff+

Beliefs: 1.) Adventures are dumb
2.) Prophecies are dumb
3.) People die when they are killed
+1.) Adventures are awesome+
+2.) Prophecies are important+
+3.) People die when they are killed+

Background: Billy was working in the fields one day when the plowshare turned up some sort of shiny bit of metal. After digging it out of the ground, Billy found it to be a beautifully-crafted longsword, bright and sharp as the day it was forged. As he looked closer, he found that there was some writing on the side. “Whosoever finds this sword-” it said “-is destined to slay the Twelve Great Demons”
Now, granted, turning up weapons in the soil wasn't exactly an uncommon occurrence- his family’s farm, as well as the surrounding farms, had been built upon the spot where the King of Iron and the Hanged Man had fought their final battle- but what was unusual was that the sword started talking about going on magical adventures, which- while exciting at first- got a bit irritating after it was repeated a hundred or so times. He’s tried getting rid of it, but the sword just shows up again later; something about how they’re “bound by fate” or whatever; the sword hasn't been very clear on that part.

Racial Traits: Nope, regular human

Known Skills: Billy knows how to run a farm, he knows how to milk a goat, he’s borderline literate, and he plays a mean game of hoop-and-stick. The sword, for its part, grants Billy strength, speed, and swordplay far beyond that of a mortal man.

Known Spells/Powers: No real powers, but Billy cannot be separated from his sword. It just sort of shows up again when no one is looking. According to the sword, it's because the two are "bound by fate", but Billy is somewhat skeptical.
