Blood Meridian

Are we truly alone in the universe? Humanity received its answer on April 29, 2016. It was by chance SETI picked up the meteorites headed straight for the surface of the Earth. Though a year away, fanatical groups preached about the coming apocalypse, news channels flooded with unjustified rumors, and the world powers blamed one another for purposefully seeding chaos into their countries. Months later, however, NASA yielded news that the objects were slowing. The first broadcast commenced.

Emerging on every single screen on Earth was a species entirely different from humanity yet similar in many respects. Humanoid in nature whilst garbed with the palest of rotting skin, the first Pantheon stood crudely integrated with various machines. The world powers sought to communicate with the pantheons but nothing was ever sent back. All the broadcast showed was a single alien staring blankly from the screen.

Weeks of communicating unsuccessful, the United Earth Sphere Alliance, U.E.S.A, was created in expectations of hostile first contact. The militaries merged while weapons were developed. Though old roots of contrasting ideologies still remained, humanity united under a common cause. To protect itself from the pantheons, if it should ever come to open warfare

April 24, 2017. The skies burned a terrible red as meteors showered from the skies. When the smoke from the ruined landscape and cities dissipated, a war machine so terrible emerged as pantheon soldiers strode forth. The machine-flesh race swept through each country with legendary speed. Cities burned from their arsenal. Their large spider-like war machines tore through the ranks of the U.E.S.A armed forces. For a time, during what came to be known as the First Contact Wars, humanity was kept on the defensive as front lines receded by the day.

Soon, the tide changed when humanity finally began to innovate. With new military weapons, vehicles, and aircrafts better catered to combat the pantheons, humanity managed to halt the extraterrestrial advance. However, though the zones behind the new defensive lines were protected, millions were left behind to survive for themselves. Ghastly rumors of many being abducted and changed into pantheon foot soldiers began to circulate amongst survivors beyond the defensive line. While many went underground and hid from the pantheons, pockets of resistance fought back against the unwelcome guests believing in a human and free Earth.

The year is 2017. Humanity is scattered. The deadliest enemy tramples upon rotting Earth. Will humanity survive or fall to the pantheons?
Hello everyone,

Here’s a little interest check for an extraterrestrial invasion-esque plot that I’m really excited to write out. Though there will be a ton of warfare-esque elements present within said storyline, this will be emphasizing character development and survival within Pantheon occupied territory.

Anyways, I’ll post more info if there’s any interest. This is but a small synopsis, a teaser if you will.

Hope to hear from folks!
Indeed! Organic integrated robot types!

Glad to have your interest Bunnita. I may do just that. I'd prefer this to be a group storyline, so I'll move this over there.

Hello everyone,

Here’s a little interest check for an extraterrestrial invasion-esque plot that I’m really excited to try out. For now, I’m placing this within the general interest check for one reason. I’m unsure if I want to make this a 1x1 or a group storyline. Deciding which one I shall do depends entirely on how much interest this receives. However, please know that I intend for this to be an advanced standard storyline focusing on the characters rather than pure violence and fighting.

Anyways, I’ll post more info if there’s any interest for this. This is but a small synopsis, a teaser if you will.

Hope to hear from folks!
Gadra looked at Sonny inquisitive as laughter soon burst forth from her. How hysterical the little creature was! She could understand why her lesser reputable minions enjoyed whatever chance they got at terrorizing these simple beasts. There was something uncannily gleeful about the whole ordeal of instilling fear into one of these human's hearts. However that wasn't why she was here. She needed information about this world to bring back. She was also given permission to strike the first blow if she so chose. Firstly, however, she needed to make sure this Sonny didn't pass out from her terror. Peeling back her aura, she took away her hellish eyes and replaced them with inquisitive bright blue ones while her skin remained pale and her black her fell to her shoulders.

"I'm not going to kill you, human," she said, sensing it was time to end her little charade though Vee was still lost to Gadra's own devices. "But I simply can't go away either. Know that I loathe breathing in your polluted air and stink. Since you're uneducated and completely clueless of what you've done, I'll graciously explain it. Do try to keep up, dear. Your blood that you gave to that piece of cardboard has bonded me to you. In a way, I'll know where you are wherever you go. I can choose to make you a conduit to use my aura. I can even use you as I'm using your dear friend right now. It's a mutual exchange. If you want power, I'll give it. Not freely of course."

She inched closer to Sonny as their faces were mere inches apart. "You think burning that thing will get rid of me?" she asked with a hint of amusement making its way into her sultry voice. "Too much fiction and rumors circulate your world, girl. How foolish to think something so simple could do so much. I was not making a joke when I said this before. Either I kill you, you give me something precious in return, or you reverse the binding. In a way, you'll become mine. I don't suggest either of three however. None of them would be in your favor."

Grinning widely, Gadra stood up. Being a one of the five, she could leave at will. She didn't need to energy of this girl to walk the mortal world for a time. However, there was something about Sonny that dissuaded her from doing that and dealing with the ignorance of the human. She chuckled to herself before walking back to Vee. The mark had all but disappeared. "And now your friend shall sleep for a time. Not dead though. No. How do you humans call it? She'll be stuck in a ... comma. A coma. That's it. Now, onto more important matters. What do you intend to do now?"

He smirked as he came and stood before her in the kitchen. She must've really wanted him gone. Or was just creeped out. It was his job to follow her. Why else was he here? There wasn't a secret kill contract at present. His directives was clear. Protect and ensure that Ryleigh survived. "Don't think of it as babysitting," he said. "Think of me as a ... pin cushion. Not only am I here to take a bullet for you, but if you need to vent, fire away."

Christ. When did he become so personal with his charge?

Mathias looked at the leftover hamburger as Ryleigh put it in the microwave. She then rose and eyebrow as she took out a bucket of ice cream. "You're eating that?" he said more so than asked. "I'm sure it wasn't disclosed and such, but I can cook you know. Had to learn when I was sent to ki--"

He stopped his previous sentence as his lips creased downward. A rule he made to himself long ago. He swore never to talk about any of his missions to anyone. No exceptions. Not even his parents whom headed the Society. It was what kept him sane he supposed. Though he killed for money, he tried his best to be respectful of the lives he took without thought. He didn't know why he did it. It was just his way.

Thankful for Ryleigh's next words, he thought of what to answer with. Killing? Faking IDs? Receiving the rush of discovering yet another to kill someone? He couldn't share that. That'd probably scare the woman even more. No. What did he do for fun - outside of death dealing? He looked up in thought. "I rarely have time for it, but I love reading. Your books in your room? Never actually had the chance to read any of them except one. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. My ... parents didn't allow hours upon hours of reading. They said it was counterproductive. So, I sneak a few minutes here and there. Other than that? I'm just your normal, boring everyday bodyguard."
Sorry that took so long! I've been busy prepping for exam I had today. Glad it's over ^^!
Of course she knew the Gestapo much better than anyone here. She couldn't say she had very many run ins with the police of the Reich. Nor was she looking for any opportunity to be acquainted with them. The situation of mentioning them here was highly inappropriate; however, it must have been the waitress's overt German attributes that made Verena question it so. The state rarely called on women to act in such rules. It wasn't unheard of though. An informant had ratted out her neighbor back when she was in Berlin. It was a terrible sight to behold.

Verena's lips creased down as she listened to the last words parting from the waitress's mouth. It was the Red Cross's obligation to help any prisoner of war or civilian that was included within the Geneva convention. They were to give aid however they could. Being from the German branch, however, complicated things a great deal. Would it be so bad to follow the girl? What if she had more nefarious aims than what she let on? Leaving the German controlled zone frightened Verena so. But she signed on to give aid. Why cower from the duty now? Because I'm German she thought to herself. Regardless if she wore the red cross on her sleeve, it wouldn't matter to the angered man or woman looking for an outlet.

Clasping her hands and fidgeting, a terrible habit when she was nervous, her lips creased downward. "What you're going to show me..." she finally said. She couldn't help but notice the other patrons blatantly looking at her now. It was as if she were a cornered doe amongst a pack of wolves. She sighed. "How long will we be? Will we be leaving the German occupation zone?"

It was two in the morning when Mathias woke from his nap. After checking to make sure his monitors were working and reading more into the files Huntington had sent him, he figured taking a short five hour power nap wouldn't kill him. He had conditioned his body to go without sleep for several days, but if it wasn't needed, he'd never say no to a few moments of a tense-free world. Namely when he dreamed.

Now, as he walked outside, he noticed a few estate guards patrolling with comfortable habit. He nodded to one and received and acknowledgement back. "Quiet?"

"As always," said the guard as he rolled his shoulder. "The boss took on some more PMC guys though. Preparing for war if I didn't know better. Must be taking on some serious shit."

Mathias nodded. The gang that had tried to kill Ryleigh at the party was serious shit. Not only did they carry out human trafficking, drug smuggling, wet jobs, and muscle for intimidation, but they recruited from the worst of the worst. Ex-Spetznas looking for purpose, psychotic killers with a long success track record at their craft, and the most astute of chemists. This group was set. He dared not share this with the guard. He wondered if he should request the Society to find a contract on the organization. Cut the head off the dragon before it awoke.

"How's babysitting the princess?" the guard asked. "Heard about the party. Nasty business. You get the guy?"

Mathias shrugged. "He met an unfortunate accident."

"Right."

"Speaking of the princess, it's time for a quick check up," he said before bidding the guard farewell. He entered the house right as Ryleigh entered the kitchen. He arched an eyebrow as he silently followed. "Couldn't sleep?"
