Two weeks into the school year, when the students had finally settled down and gotten used to sharing co-ed dorms and worked out a few of the kinks in their teams, Professor Goodwitch made an announcement to the early morning sparring class.
“Alright students,” She began, quickly hushing any conversations that may have carried from breakfast into the amphitheatre set up for sparring,
“I am aware that things have been a bit hectic for some of you in the past two weeks. But now that things have settled, we can hold our start of year tournament.”The blonde Professor tapped at her scroll, illuminating a pair of holographic displays that were easily visible from anywhere in the room. They flickered to life with a gentle blue glow, set to the default screen of Beacon’s symbol.
After a moment of excited chatter from the students, Glynda cleared her throat and continued.
“The purpose of this tournament is twofold; first, it will allow me to gauge your individual skill and power levels in a controlled environment, which in turn will allow me to give more feedback on ways you might improve. Second, it will allow you to familiarise yourselves with how a tournament is conducted, which shall aid in any future tournaments you may participate in as well as granting you experience fighting against different people and different fighting styles.”“Are there any questions?” The Professor obviously didn’t expect a response, as she barely flicked her eyes over the students before speaking again.
“Then we shall begin.”With another tap on her scroll tablet, an image of a student appeared on each screen. The images started spinning, flicking through the various members of the sparring class quickly before coming to a sudden stop. The pictures flashed before the class, showing the faces of a pale girl with shaggy black hair, black german shepherd ears poking out of the mop on top of her head, and mint green eyes, opposite the face of an olive-skinned girl with dark brown eyes, auburn hair swept back in a messy ponytail and a pair of sugar glider ears peeking out of the wavy locks.
“The first match shall be between Ciardha Dougal of Team NTSD and Cinnamon Muscovado of Team CHML. Please retrieve your equipment and make your way to the arena.” The stern Professor finished, adjusting her glasses. Anything else she may have said was cut off by the excited squeal from Cinnamon, who jumped to her feet almost immediately.
“Wish me luck, girls!” She cheered to her teammates, disappearing into the locker room before anyone else could say anything. Her opponent said nothing, merely exchanging a glance with the other members of her team before following the excitable cheerleader.
