Well, i'll wait a bit longer to see if anyone else joins the interest bandwagon. Imp'll put up an OOC after school regardless, though- you guys can go ahead and brainstorm ideas and whatnot and collaborate to boot
I should make a secondary note of the 'fantasy' tag, I feel.
While not quite Shadowrun [which was a major inspiration], I would like to clarify a bit; No such thing as magic, but stretching the laws of physics is alright.
shotguns with suppressors? Nah, they heard you.
You want to swing off a chandelier and dropkick a guy out a window and stick the landing all while having time to brush your hair and look good while you're at it? [Exaggeration slight] alright that's chill.
Drop lightning out the sky with your mind? ehhh that's not cool.
That's basically the census I reached with myself when thinking up the boundaries. Keep it realistic but feel free to have some fun with it within that category.
The concept of a thieves guild is a novel one at best. Nowadays we look back at the dark ages and renaissance and romanticize the concept of a thief. Someone skilled with obscure tools and stealth? True, these are aspects of a thief, but the idea of a 'guild' is one I wish to avoid with this initial interest check.
The setting is modern and familiar- an urban Earth. If you want to see the setting, look out a window or scroll through a few pictures of the world's metropolises should you live in a more rural area. When we think of a thief, we think in terms of dungeons and dragons or RPG rogues and their interactions with each other and their hierarchal society.
Well, that's not what I want to portray and offer to you folks.
I am looking for a small group, sizing somewhere between 3-5 in an ideal circumstance. I will treat myself more as a DM/GM in the Dungeons and Dragons sense, where I will mediate and guide the players moreso than interact myself with a personal character. I wish to help create a story, not interpose myself.
That being said, I should finally get to explaining properly. -
A tale of Thieves [Working Title] will be a modern roleplay, centred in the world's major cities, corporations, and governments. It's the digital age, and the world is full of corporate espionage as well as political scheming. Our tale will revolve around a fledgling group of thieves [Of various skills and talents; Whether you're the oldschool guile and sleight of hand sort or a modern technowhiz is entirely up to you fellows] and their hijinks as they try to carve their own stake in life.
For the most part, I would love for the players to collaborate and work together to create characters and backgrounds, but if issues arise I will handle it in a more D&D esque way and craft methods of character introductions together [most likely via the 'you've been contacted for a job' angle. Typical, eh?]
If you all wish to be stealthy cloak-and-dagger spy types that's alright, I don't care if you all overlap skillsets and abilities and are basically a group of james bond heroes.
...That's all probably a horrible jumble of nonsense, eh?
Long story short...
A thieves tale, a modern adventure of heists and hijinks.
I admit that at that description none other than Maximillian Robespierre or Napoleon himself came to mind as options I'd pick myself. I mean, they were rather exceptional dictators if you look at it that way.
