Felix activated his manalysis and examined the two. Alya had a light blue aura, it had an inviting warm feeling to it, no doubt a calming feeling for those on edge as well. But Zuri's aura was different. One of the things to note about it was that it was small. Either she was suppressing her aura intentionally, or she hadn't exercised her mana well properly, though she was definitely a Talent. But the most striking thing about her mana was that it was black, pitch black to be specific. It seemed as if the aura itself was an abyss that one could fall into if they stared too long. Felix knew about black auras. The traditional elements dictated that there were two sides to the Aether element Heavenly/Void or Darkness/Light. And while it hadn't surprised him to see a Void Aether aspect aura, as he had witnessed aura's of all colors through his studies, his own resting aura being white, it did catch him off guard to see someone have a stead black aura like that.

"Well, I suppose an explanation is in order." Felix broke the silence, "around a few months back, during a council summit, an arch-magi by the name of Thadeus suggested efforts be focused on an endeavor. This endeavor involved making sure the Arcanocracy obtain nine artifacts of devastating power named the Paragons. Thadeus had said it to be solely for the purpose of assuring the position and the safety of the Arcanocracy as a world power. Many were opposed to this motion including me, and most namely the papal-magi. After the motion was rejected... I had thought that would have been the end of the discussion. I knew better than most people that this pandora's box known as the Paragons should not be opened. So I breathed a sigh of relief when the papal-magi rejected the motion. Unfortunately three weeks ago, the papal-magi died, and a new papal-magi was voted in. The unfortunate part sadly was not only the previous papal-magi perishing, but that Thadeus's brother Cornelius was voted in as the new papal-magi. I have no way to prove this, but rumor has it they are both of the Church of the First Company... Jesuits. Needless to say a few weeks later at the next summit, the motion to search for the paragons was brought up once more, only this time the motion was not only accepted, but made top priority. That night I had a fever dream that could only be explained as a vision. In this dream I was shown the many possible endings of this world should anyone get their hands on the paragons besides a group formed by me. I awoke to find me sitting at my writing desk pen in hand, and parchment in front of me. Upon the parchment was a series of names and locations written in my handwriting." Felix explained

"I followed the names and locations, as the dream commanded me. Gathering up all the people on the list and forming a group. The groups soul purpose is to find the Paragons before anyone else does. The consequences are dire if all of them are collected by anyone else before we collect them. And that is what we were doing in these catacombs last night. We found our first Paragon. Upon returning to our headquarters, I had another dream. This dream gave me another list." Felix summoned the list from his inventory, a shroud of blue flames covered his hand for a moment before dissipating and leaving a piece of parchment in his hand."

Felix handed the list over to Alya.

"As you can see, not only is your name on there, Alya, but the name of your companion here, whom I have never met." Felix explained.

The list said, "Alya Summers: Valakite Catacombs." And under Alya's name it read, "Zuri: Accompanying Alya Summers."

"Those other names are the two others I must meet with after you. The reason I couldn't let you join or tell you very much before, Alya, is because I can't let anyone else aside from those on the list know about my dreams and the quest for Paragon's End. So I ask of you sincerely, will you two join our group. Will you join Paragon's End?" Felix finished.
Okay, so I spent a few days reading through the RP trying to find if I had set a date in the roleplay itself, and I couldn't find anything. So if I did, and just didn't see it, I have gone ahead and retconned the date to a different date. If I never did, the date has now officially been set.
Felix walked through the portal and the group ended up in the forest right outside the catacombs where Felix was just a few seconds prior. Felix was about to discuss the list and their membership eligability for Paragon's End, but then Zuri said something that made Felix scratch his head.

"It's Thursday, May 26th, 2016. You're outside the Valakite catacombs, though the Valakites have been gone for thousands of years. These catacombs have since been claimed by Societas Academia. Why would you ask something like that?" Felix explained.
Felix walked back up the stares and shut the hidden door behind him. He too, retired to his quarters and went to bed. It wasn't long before he closed his eyes that his vision became enshrouded by the devastating scenes of war and destruction, all the different way the world could come to ruin by the paragons flashing before his eyes. All of this was familiar to him. Then the voice spoke, though, before it was a roaring voice, this time it was a soft female voice that consoled him and lifted him up just by its sound.

"O Felix, ye chosen of the magi. Ye who knowest much yet still ignorant of all. Ye have collected the names of the chosen protectors, yet thou art not finished." The disembodied voice softly explained.

"Yes, I know I am not finished we still have to collect the other Paragons." Felix replied.

The voice continued on as if it didn't acknowledge Felix's reply, "The names bestowed upon you were those who had ripened. They were mature in their crafts, and thus were ready to be collected. Yet there are more names that have only just matured."

"More names? Are these replacements for the names that have died?" Felix asked.

"These names are ripened. They are ready for the collection. Find them soon. Only together can you weather the coming storm." The voice seemingly replied. Then a torrent of images of people in different locations. The first image was of the blonde woman, Alya. He'd met her before, but the scene quickly panned over to a girl with long black hair who was with her. Then the images quickly changed to a purple skinned woman holding an amulet. Once more the images changed, this time to a brown haired girl with wings.

The vision faded, and Felix found himself upright at his desk instead of lying in bed. Another piece of parchment with another list of names and locations written in his handwriting. Felix folded the paper up, and, with a puff of blue flames, stored it in his mana inventory. New names? A new list? It never even occurred to me that names could be added to the group. But I guess it makes sense. Felix pondered.

It was now just and hour before dawn, and Felix decided, he would get a jump on these four names. If I bring them back before everyone wakes up, I should still have time to make breakfast, we wouldn't want the new names on the list to miss out now would we?

Felix conjured the list, the first name being Alya Summers. Next to her name, the location said, "Valakite Catacombs, Redwood Forest." That's odd, that's where I left her, I wonder why she would still be in there..." Felix pondered. But he also noticed another name, Zuri, just below that name. With the location just saying, "Accompanying Alya Summers," which really made Felix scratch his head.

Felix conjured on his robes, and opened a glyph rift to the catacombs. Standing at the entrance, he used manalysis to feel for Alya's aura. He found the aura, being accompanied by a black aura, a little deeper in the catacombs than he had figured.

Felix opened a rift up to their location and stepped through it. The glowing shimmering surface of the rift had the image of the redwoods, and Felix stepping through it. The images refracted through the portal in real time, looked like the surface of a pool of natural spring water, that was by some fluke of natural physics, standing upright. And when Felix walked through it, ripples were made as if he breached the surface of a pond.

He stood in front of the two girls. Alya he had met before, but the other he had only seen in his dream.

"Alya, good to see you again. And Zuri, I'm Felix, pleased to meet you. I bet you are wondering why I am back, and how I know Zuri's name? Well, let's leave this catacomb and talk." Felix said awkwardly. He kept the rift open as a source of light, and was hoping they would leave the dark, dank catacombs as soon as possible.
"Well, I have never seen a paragon up until now, all I had to go on were written accounts. And the accounts for this paragon all correlate to powers of reconnaissance, hence the moniker, 'Espial'," Felix explained. "Though, we do know that it can be used as a catalyst for a runic formula. You all observed it being used as the powerhouse for a golem. So, specifically, the paragon cannot be interfaced by a mage. Only indirectly interfaced through runes. Plus, the ability it innately possesses." Felix leaned over as if to observe the Paragon closer, "Though, I haven't the foggiest as to how to activate the ability. There must be some initiation process, possibly some sort of prerequisites that need to be met before one could use it."

Felix grasped the Paragon and looked at it closer. "I think I will try something." Felix suppressed all of his aura, leaving his body completely passive. He then concentrated on the paragon, forcing all his attention and physical senses on the Paragon. After a few moments, Felix broke concentration and sighed.

"Well, that's all I got." Felix relented, "If only Thadeus was on our side. He was always Thadeus was always very lucky when it came to figuring out ancient... relics" As Felix's mind wondered, a power suddenly came over him. A manalysis user could see the Paragon's purple aura shrouding Felix.

Felix's eyes went completely white, even whiter than Nemo's eyes. Suddenly Felix saw Thadeus standing in the courtyard of the Vatican, surrounded by the other Arch-Magi. Medical Magi were kneeling down next to Thadeus as they performed every known magic to resuscitate Dominick, who was still being cradled by a kneeling Dawn. Though Felix could see all of this, he could not hear anything. Felix knew this had to be the power of the Espial Paragon. He then drew forth his own mana to cover his body, which caused the shroud of Espial mana to dissipate and caused the vision to end.

"I just saw Thadeus. And he was talking with the other Arch-Magi while a team of medics were performing a medical diagnostic on the male twin. This had to be the Paragon's work." Felix explained. "So that must be it. In order to use the Paragon, you must quell your own aura. Though, I am not sure exactly what triggered it. It had to either be my mention of Thadeus, or me thinking about him. Or possibly both." Felix placed the Paragon back inside the case.

"More testing is needed, but alas," Felix looked at his mana dial which displayed the time as 23:42. The Vatican went by a 24 hour clock so this was the only clock Felix had ever used. "It is getting late. And I know you had a late night last night. Plus, with all that you have gone through today, you need to get some good rest." Felix closed the case to the Paragon, "We will do more tests tomorrow. But for now, get some sleep. And that's an order." Felix commanded.
Felix nodded in concurrence with what Travis had gathered. Felix placed the paragon back inside the case but left it open.

"Yes, this is what I suspected as soon as I first lay manalysis upon the Paragon."

Felix wheeled over a whiteboard and pulled out a dry erase marker from the tray it rested in under the board.

"I must readily admit to you that I am much more of a scholar than I am a mathematician. Otherwise, instead of drawing a diagram, I'd write it out in an equation." Felix explained as he uncapped the marker, "But, we make due with what the good Lord gives us."

Felix then drew detailed outline of a human body. He then, in the chest, drew two circles, one bigger than the other, with the bigger one below the larger one. He labeled the smaller one IMW and the bigger one TMW.

"I am sure this is all going to be review for you, but I will explain it from the ground up nonetheless. As you can tell, this diagram is a rudimentary picture of a Talent's body and inner mana workings." Felix explained. Then he pointed at the smaller circle with the IMW label. "This is the innate mana well. Every living creature has one of these. It's what binds all life together. It's what keeps our body's functioning. The spark of life, if you will. While everyone's innate mana well is the same size from birth, however, one can train themselves to increase the size of their innate mana wells, which is what Untalents, such as yourself, rely on." Felix explained. He then pointed at the circle with the TMW written in it, "This is the Talent mana well. Unlike the innate mana well, Talent mana wells vary in sizes depending on the person. Genetics does have a lot to do with the size of a Talent Mana well. However, there have been many well documented cases of Talents with abhorrent genetic codes having massive mana wells. So, there is still much to discover in the field of Mana Theory." Felix explained. "Much like the innate mana well, Talents can bolster their Talent Mana well with training, like body building for muscles, using magic often for long periods of time will increase the size of the well." Felix continued, "It once was commonly thought that both Talents and Untalents had only one single mana well. But within the past hundred years, scholars have discovered the existence of the innate mana well inside Talents. As you can imagine, since it is so easy to neglect the innate mana well as a Talent, many Talents do not train their innate mana wells. This is due to the fact that in order to train the innate mana well, one must expend all of their Talent Mana well. However, once one starts using the innate mana well, they must pay very close attention, or it is possible for them to expend all their mana and perish."

Felix drew a shroud around the outline. "This is the aura. This is the released state of one's inner mana." Felix then pointed at the wells again, "The mana wells, being made out of mana matter themselves, do not possess a physical organ. But once exercised. The wells release the mana through the physical system via our circulatory system. Which then comes bubbling through our skin cells, manifesting itself into an aura. This aura is then manipulated into the parts of the body necessary for the specific spell incantation. As the incantation is uttered, the mana takes physical form." Felix capped his marker.

"Obviously you knew all this already, and I am not trying to waste your time, I am going somewhere with this." Felix expressed in a candid tone.

He then took the dry eraser, erased everything, and drew an outline of the side of a hand and a diamond shape in front of it. The diagram looked as though the hand was pushing the diamond. Felix then drew wave like tendrils between the hand and the diamond.

"When charging a mana crystal, all that is happening is that you are manifesting the aura into your hand and manipulating it into a suitable vessel. In most cases it's blue quartz. The structure of the blue quartz makes for a tight vessel with little mana leakage. Of course, no natural material can keep mana perfectly sealed, or else there would have been no way to get the mana inside the material to begin with. But the structure of blue quartz in particular is very ideal for our needs. The crystalline structure of blue quartz shifts once mana has entered it, making it easy to charge, as well as allowing it to retain mana longer than most materials." Felix explained. "When attempting to utilize a charged crystal, there is still a small mana output from the user needed. In order to manipulate mana, you must produce a small controllable aura. Mana is attracted to mana, and of course, once a mage gets a hold of a charged crystal, it is easy to manipulate out the mana of the crystal with their own aura."

He then erased the diamond and drew a small outline of a body in front of the hand. "Now, imagine attempting, instead of a crystal, of charging a person with your mana. It's fairly simple to do. You need only bring forth the aura, and hold it against a person using your aura to manipulate it through that person's body. However, the party receiving the mana must also be willing to receive it, using their own aura to assimilate the mana into their body," Felix elaborated. "But, what if, say, you wished to take mana from someone in the same manner of attempting to draw mana from a crystal?" Felix erased the waves between the drawings and drew arrows pointing towards the hand from the body. "Well, this is dangerous. Because, as you reach your aura inside the person to retrieve their mana, if they feel the infiltration, they can use their aura to latch unto yours, from there a game of tug of war is played until either the physical contact is severed or one person wins."

Felix walked back over to the paragon and focused his attention on it.

"So, with my long winded lesson, I come full circle to my point. And that point is, that this paragon is definitely not like a piece of blue quartz, but rather, it is a living breathing piece of mana. Which means, that it is impossible to pull from it directly to cast spells." Felix finished.

Raiya began to panic at the thought of herself having anything personally in common with Nemo. And as she began to think about it, the similarities were mounting. Eventually her panic overtook her, and she yelled, "I AM NOT LIKE YOU! I AM NOTHING LIKE YOU!" Her face was red with frustration. In her confusion she dropped her glass which shattered on the ground, spilling ice and brown liquor in a puddle to the side of the table.

Not knowing what to do with herself, she promptly ran out of the room and up to her bed where she hid herself under the covers until she fell asleep.

Yeah! She's pretty human, she's just the failed result of her ancestor trying to reshape humans into the image of Valkyrie.

Also, I legitimately did not know what the hell "Monster Monsume" was.... then I googled.... watched Gigguk's "Anime in 2015" review and promtely deleted my search history as those google image results realllllly was not what I wanted to see today...

*sigh* man... sometimes... well, to quote Gigguk: "Monster Monsume wins the "The Show I really Don't Want to Explain to My Mom" award.

Don't worry, I've never actually seen it myself, I am just a huge nerd and spend way too much time on the internet. The amount of trivial knowledge my mind contains is boundless.
<Snipped quote by Prodigal Son>

Please, like I would hide my GENIUS from the world!

Joking aside, here is just a brief summary:

This is Ava Kurier

In what was once known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Ava's ancestor had a dream... no, more like a vision that came to him on that fateful night of October 26th, 1856. A dream that humans would break the shackles of their earth bound selves and ascend into the heavens, becoming one with the gods and living for eternity in nirvana. Her grandfather made it his life goal to use his Talent powers to research and study how to change the bodies of humans, how to mutate them. He took the vision, perhaps, a bit too literally, but he was able to create a spell that was satisfactory in his eyes. He decided to bless his bloodline, to be the first of this new "Avian Race" as he called it, blessing himself and his decedents with this magic that manipulated their bodies to allow them the ability to fly. This so called "blessing became more a curse, as the Catholics labeled this magic heretical or even inhumane, and began to go after the Kurier bloodline. Ava's great, great grandfather and her great grandfather were captured by church authorities, while her grandfather was able to escape them as a boy. He fled to the Alps where he hid in a small, isolated village in the mountains.

Anyway, she's the decent of that bloodline, the last of this strange experiment. The isolated village her grandfather lived is where she lives now and is protected by its residents, or at least, as much as they can. She specializes in controlling the wind (shocker) and is a Talent herself, but doesn't really know it, as she's lived her whole life in a small mountain village in the middle of nowhere. Not much magic to compare too. As seen in the picture, her most notable traits are her wings and feathers, allowing her to fly much like a bird.

Well, that's the abridged, gist of it. There's a lot more fun details and story I want to flush out, especially about how the bloodline was cursed exactly, the experimentation, ect, but I figured that I'd just give the core of the idea here in its place.

So, I am to gather that she has a human body for the most part, but wings and a tail attached? So more like an angel than, say, Papi from Monster Monsume? If that's the case, then that's absolutely fine. Not that I have a problem with anthro birds, it's just, I am much more comfortable if they have, for the most part, a human body,(hands legs head) or at least a human form, it's just easier to wrap my brain around.

Sounds reasonable enough to me! Thanks, I shall have a CS up momentarily, though I would like to run a few things by you for the character I have in mind. It's nothing too radical or anything, just some things I want to make sure you're fine with before I really dive into it. Want me to PM you the CS idea or just talk about them here? I don't mind either way, its just in my experience, sometimes that's just how GMs want to do things.

You can PM me if you'd rather it be private, I don't mind.
