Gloria spent time of the recess break getting acquainted with her new classmates, bugging her teammate to tell her more about this school, memorable fights in which he had participated, tips on the faculty and other things which usually get discussed at the first few meetings, and then continuing this activity with other classmates - someone with less patience could have named it "getting in their faces", if not for her honest and generally friendly disposition.
She stopped talking when girl on the scene started talking about....something official people usually talk at such occasions, probably; Gloria hasn't paid her much attention. In fact, she paid her no attention at all, almost instantly dozing off with very serious, almost solemn expression on her still-raised face - only half-lidded eyes and her deep breathing gave her away. She mastered the art of napping without giving herself away too much years ago, after all.
She almost jumped at the sound of director's voice, violently flinching and sending tremors through her row and one before it as he rapidly suppressed the urge to stand at attention; it was as if she's in the training camp all over again - and her unit's commander catched her sleeping at the duty. With a slight hitch in the voice she eyed director with eyes wide from the shock and whispered to herself, trying to calm down:
- You've gotta be shitting me....
Then, as she remembered where and who she is, her eyes narrowed, turning to scowl fixed at the director. As she listened to him speaking to the audience and feeled pressure of the man's presence rolling around her, her eyes filled with quiet anger. So when he focused his gaze on her - she didn't noticed that he did it to everyone else too - she met it with hard defiance in her eyes. "Who the hell do you think you are, trying to beat us into awe with your little tricks?", quietly fumed Gloria as man walked away. She decided that it would be better to forge the iron while it's hot and looked around her for someone - or something - pertinent to the problem at hand.
Well, it looked like that japanese boy with probably-Arm-induced discoloration of eyes and hair was entirely unimpressed by the director's speech. Which was something, Gloria reasoned, looking around her and finding most of the people still shocked by that man's speech. "Well, it looks like that at least someone here could keep their wits. Good start, then.", she darkly mused, making her way to the said boy as people began to file out.
- Hey, Takumi, right? - Gloria lightly poked him in the shoulder - I need to discuss someting vit you. - her Middle-Eastern accent was a lot more pronounced in her speech than usual. - Also might need your 'elp vit someting.
@TheHangedMan

Also. How will IC proceed from now? Are we supposed to post our reactions for director's speech IC or what?
@TheHangedMan@Eklispe

Well, aside from "that pairing", there might be some problem with the fact we haven't seen Minato Namikaze for some time. Will pairings be changed if he would drop out or something?
@TheHangedMan
Ok, I see.
What about medical technologies, though? I would like to know how much we could go on each other in the event of combat, after all.
@TheHangedMan
>There are no known counters as of now for laser weaponry asides Arms Masters.
Uh, what about specialized smokescreens with highly reflective particles? Not a panacea, not against lasers capable of working in field conditions, but throw enough of that smoke in the air and efficiency of laser weaponry would be severely hampered due to dispersion.
There was a single knock on the door, hard and sharp, as if someone on the other side lashed out with the knuckles.
Almost without pause, door opened, revealing statuesque brown-skinned girl in military uniform with harversack over one shoulder.
She sweeped the classroom with her golden, almost glowing eyes and frowned, checking something on her ruggedized smartphone and intently examining teacher's face and posture. Finally satisfied, she slightly bowed out of reflex so as to not collide with the doorframe and stepped inside.
Once inside, she shut the door behin herself, then sweeped the classroom once again. Evidently reaching some conclusion, she gave slight nod to the teacher with quiet:
- Sir.
Not waiting for a response nor explaining her late arrival she proceeded to the closest empty chair availible - one beside lightly-brown-haired girl with the glasses that talked about sky and gazing at it. Not giving those strange - for this class, at least - words much thought, Gloria carefully positioned herself on the chair beside the girl and fished in her haversack for the notebook and pencil case - after all, it would not do to miss much of one of the few classes she actually enjoyed in here.
@Progenitus Hardlight sims, Virtual Reality tech ala Sword Art Online, teleportation devices and practical laser weaponry. Of course, do note that a lot of this new tech is still expensive and very hard to afford regularly.

Let's see....
>hardlight sims
How much infrastructure they require, exactly? 'Cause forcefields that ALSO could imitate visual characteristics of something have more potential applications in warfare and civil engineering than I care to count.
>VR
How advanced, exactly? Can it do time-gradient or model Arms effects inside the simulation?
>teleportation
Holy~ Ok, do they have a maximum range? What about limitation on mass and energy requirements? This right there is a space-boom waiting to happen. Just set up orbital portal, or one on the Moon, and you're good to go for all the resources of Solar System.
>practical laser weaponry
Small-arms scale or vehicle-mounted only?

What about medicine, btw? Seeing as rather serious injuries are rather commonplace here(and, well, duels would be even more lethal with that kind of weaponry), there have to be some form of accelerated healing with options for restoring lost body parts, so that students could continue to attend and not be bed-ridden for months and crippled for life.
@Progenitus a lot of tech, even in our world, was due to the outbreak of war. It's not surprising at all to see that as an explanation for the sudden emergence of new tech, so go ahead I'd say.

Ah, you misunderstood. Could you describe, in general terms if you will, what was invented? At least the most prominent breakthroughs? I would like to know what one could expect to meet with, when conducting business of waging war or helping with it, so as to not be caught flat-footed.
@Progenitus yeah, technology is slightly more advanced - I say slightly, but it actually depends on the field - so think Twenty Minutes Into The Future kind of thing. Though basically this just means that as long as it's plausible, we'll have it on :D For the sake of being flexible.

Well, could you say what breakthroughs were made in the warfare-related technologies? It is kind of relevant for my character.
@TheHangedMan
Also, one thing came up. It seems that this game's setting is somewhat more advanced technologically - what with the hardlight AR rooms for training or what that exercise Catalina participated in was. Could you elaborate on that?

Oh, and one more thing. Will we be getting challenges along the lines of "fight the conventional forces"? Because with all the Army's connections there I would be surprised if someone would not try and evaluate our worth in that avenue.
