This is basically the science project they are doing for the Environmental Studies class for those who are curious.

http://www.ehow.com/about_6134291_sea-water-analysis.html

Their project is to test the quality of the water around Mako Island to write a report on their findings, and make a presentation, give it in front of the rest of the class; explain what people can do to keep the water clean and animal, plant life healthy. Don't worry, we are not going to write out the report/presentation. We can gloss over that part since I know you do not want to do school work for real.

Haha The school requires they take ES because the town is really into keeping their home clean and teaching their children how to continue to do so. Okay so the islanders are tree huggers.

I'm not bad on my computer; I can try and put something together... TRY x'DD

Here is a crude map.

If you could neaten it up (make it look not like a child drawing. Haha)

But you should all get the idea.
Anyone artistic? Based on my description of the town, I wonder if anyone could draw a map! lol

No idea what to name it tbh. I was thinking an italian/seafood restaurant, since they're by the sea.

Can we just call it something to do with the family name? Such as Pete's Place (That's an example.. I don't know what her dad's name is) so that if we are referencing it, we can call it the name and not the restaurant, unless you want to call it "The Restaurant." lol

Works well since ima have Tris' dad be a mechanic xDDWho else is gunna keep all these boats and that running x'3

Yep! There are roads and cars, buses, but not very many. But there are loads of boats! Things are pretty easy to get to just using the community bus. It's all pretty close together.

I'm wondering how big the population would be in a town like that (being that there is only one school and one community college) Does it sound realistic?

That's fine by me :)

We should name them!

What is your place called and what kind of food do they serve?

I'm thinking of naming the Smoothie Bar "Tropical Siren" Btw, they serve smoothies, juice(fruit/veggie), coffee,(most forms of drinks besides alcohol), deserts and snack foods.

Iris's family own a restaurant, or would that be the smoothie bar now?

How about you stick to them owning the only restaurant on the island as the place families or adults come to dine and the Smoothie Bar is more for the teen/early 20s crowd. That okay with you?

Well it is a restaurant sort of, but it's main attraction is it's teen hangout-ness/live entertainment and the smoothies. Do you want that to be the one they own? I'm fine with there being a privately owned restaurant in the town, but there are no big chain restaurants since it is a small island town.

*nod* Yeah, and I've posted 3 times in a relatively short amount of time. I am quite excited for this RP, but I've also been the one left in the dust because of time issues. Other people shouldn't be penalized for being in different time zones, or having jobs or other things that keep them real busy. I will respond to you if no one else has replied in the next 8 or so hours.

I don't mind waiting. I usually stay away from big groups because of this problem. So here's hoping things don't get chaotic.
Some details about the land our characters are on.

It is a small island town surrounded by the ocean. Of course you know that the island town can see another island called Mako Island off in the distance. There is also a white lighthouse that is converted into a home that my character lives with her father who is the lighthouse keeper and also fiction novelist. Her mother works as a school teacher.

The town's main source of income is through fishing. A lot of the able adults work in the fishing boats.

It's a distance away from the mainland and there is a ferry most people take if they want to go to the mainland for whatever reason.

The town has the typical attractions; clothing/shoe store, grocery store, toy store all on the same street. There is a Aquatic Rescue Center, aquatic theme park (that brings in tourists during certain times of the year), each have people who study the animal life in the sea and try to find out more about them and ways to make their lives better in the wild and in captivity.

There is also a teen hangout spot that is a smoothie bar(they serve food, too) and source of live entertainment (they have live bands, singing, talent shows, comedians and so on. )

There is one school building for all ages and a small community college, though a lot of people leave for college on the mainland.

The only library is attached to the school and the only kiddy park is on the school property.

Things like bowling alleys, movie theaters, brand name stores, malls, fancy restaurants, even jails/prison are not on the island. You'd have to go to the mainland for that stuff.
