Okay, Lurking and I are just about done with our collab post, just tidying it up before we post.
Leslie and Fionn

Max's words replayed in Leslie's head as she suited up for combat. She had seen his name before, somewhere in all the meetings and dinners her parents had helped host but he himself drew a blank beyond one of the flashcards that her tutors had used to make sure she knew everyone at a party. But given his vote of confidence, that's what she was going to call it, she was more than mentally ready. Some performance jitters, for sure, but after a year of simulations and drills it was nearly showtime

She splashed down with little incident. Just a bit of kelp covering the windshield that was quickly wiped off. It didn't elude her that she was partnered up with the heavy weapons carrier in the squad, and sent to deal with the biggest threat to their safety.

She had gone over the briefing in her head on the flight over. The sight of the cruise missiles impacting was something to behold, and reminded her of their advantages here. They would be in their GEARS, which was always a big plus. They would have the sensors and such to help them see while also having the biggest guns on the island. Their element of surprise would be backed up by their speed, which would help negate any sort of response the defenders would be able to muster. That speed would be key to keeping the initiative. Ideally, she and Fion would end up securing a garage full of empty vehicles, or even a smoking crater. But, failing that, it sounded like they were facing an organized, if amateur fighting force.

“Sobero, we have limited time before the enemy recovers. I suggest we go through the forest; we can rush through some cover to the hanger before we are forced into the open and take advantage of the chaos they'll be in. From there we can decide how to make the approach depending on what is still standing. If you're ready, let's get a move on, unless you have a better path.”

"I agree, straight through the forest to avoid any potential dug in positions. Come out of the woods and ideally catch them still getting everything moving, She said, raising her rifle, checking it had a bullet chambered, and advanced into the forest with the others.

“Alright, Let’s get a move on while they are still in disarray. I’ll lead the way and watch the front, you keep an eye out for anyone sneaking behind us.”

Fionn replied before breaking into a sprint through the thick vegetation of the forest. The density of the trees was enough to obscure vision from the outside, but not so much as to make travel difficult for the large frames of the GEARS, at least till they got closer to the hanger.

"Somachain, Sobero, me and Sprinstream have overwatch, we are on your right hand side. I can't see any significant thermal signatures from here in the forest in front of you, but that doesn't mean there isn't anyone, or anything waiting for you down there that's hiding. We'll be out of view when we're closer to the comms facility, but we can get back in range when you need fire support and designation from us."

“Copy that," replied Fion. "You stick to your part for the time being, if anyone is dumb enough to get within mauling range of me in the woods, they will get a few seconds to regret it. Outside of the forest I think that, between me and Sobero, we have enough explosives to tell whatever is there to fuck off.”
It was only a few minutes pace in the gradually shrinking forest before they got in sight of their goal. Two hangers stood facing each other before a dirt runway about 300 meters out. The one on the left took the brunt of the missile strike with most of the roof collapsed and a fire raging on the inside, likely whatever was in there is destroyed. The other hanger fared better, however, with the only problem being some debris blocking part of the entrance. Outside the hanger lay flat terrain marred by the metal remains of the first hanger creating cover of debris and deep impacts within the ground. There is a set of three small rectangular buildings behind the hangars that likely are external storage or barracks.

Other than the structures, Fionn counted two light tracked vehicles patrolling the road and a handful of infantry trying to salvage from the devastation. ‘A light defense. They must not have thought it likely to be assaulted so quickly… or the cruise missiles landed in the right spots.’ Fionn thought to himself.

Quickly devising a plan of action, Fionn told it to Leslie.

“Those IFVs are going to be a problem. I don’t think I can kill the crew from this range, but I definitely can ruin those tracks, make it harder for them to go anywhere while you take ‘em out with your rockets. They’ll be faster than my mortars. Then I’m thinking I smoke just in front of where the rest of them are in suppress them with my autocannon while you sneak around and flank the side, we mop up what’s left and figure out and go from there. Sound like a plan?”

"I got the thermal sight which should help with the targeting, and I think if you draw their fire I can get close enough my rifle will be more than enough to get through their armor." Leslie brought her attention back to to the IFV's, bringing her own rifle to the ready. "On you."

“One….Two…Three….Four….Three….Two…Three…Four…” Fionn began counting. Each second up sends a dozen and a half rounds of screaming lead. Each second down gives the barrel time to cool off. For a gun to fire upwards of a thousand rounds a minute, it tends to heat up very fast. If it gets too hot, the barrel tends to break. After enough time spent using the weapon, learning what it can and cannot do, Fionn learned how far he can push his luck.

The downside about the autocannon is the poor accuracy of it. The upside of it is the fire rate…and the poor accuracy of it. With a veil of smoke blocking his vision of the enemy, it can be tricky to aim for them, but with the spread and rate of fire, all he has to do is sweep one area at a time and he will is bound to hit something. If he were to fire 3000 rounds and only have an accuracy of 10%, that is 300 new holes made in something.

Hitting things, however, is not all it is good for. Each burst of fire sends dozens of bullets in a given direction making dozens of impacts. Hearing or seeing it tends to make one panic, and rush to cover. Distracting them, their thoughts preoccupied with not getting hit. It was this purpose he was fulfilling, giving Leslie time to move unimpeded, unnoticed. Time to act, to strike with the surgical precision that is the anti-thesis to his sporadic and indirect fire.

An audible explosion and about 400 rounds later, the firefight came to an end.

Leslie used some trees to take cover from the incoming autocannon, Keeping her shoulder pauldron facing the direction of fire. Thankfully the bear's fire drew enough attention off her The engines of the enemies made them easy targets for her sights, and as she moved from crater to crater only a few of the dismounted soldiers running out of the concealing smoke noticed her. By then it was too late. Her head mounted machine guns made quick work of them, a quick glance was all that was needed to eliminate them.

With the smoke, foxholes, and covering fire, her advance to flank the IFV's went smoothly until the end. The IFV closest to her barely had time to swing its turret in time to get off a shot that whizzed over her head, and a quick burst along the turret hit the ammunition stores, causing the entire thing to go up in smoke. However the second IFV had finally noticed her, and started to limp away from the fight and out of the smoke. "Shit it spotted me," she said to Fion. As the turret swung turret towards her, she put her shield forward just in time to feel the thud as autocannon rounds slammed into her. The short burst was enough to rattle her bones, but with a shout she quickly returned fire, emptying the rest of her clip into the side of the vehicle until it stopped firing. By the time she was done she could see clear through it.

Swearing under her breath, she called back to Fion. "Both IFV's Down, I took a hit but I think I'm alright," she said. Ducking into a deep crater , she took the time to reload a fresh magazine into her rifle. Then she looked around as the smoke cleared up, and brought her rifle up. "Okay, I got you covered, you can move up now."

With the smoke cleared, Fionn took a moment to scan the area before joining Leslie in cover.

“Good to hear, and looks like the shield did it’s job.” Fionn said pointing to the visible dents. “We survived this round, let’s keep that streak going.” Fionn briefly looked out of cover, taking linger after not seeing anyone. “I think that’s everyone out here so I guess we deal with the hanger now. If there is anyone in there, they know we are here now and they might be mad so, if you don’t mind me making the plan again, I say we riddle it with bullets and explosions.”

Leslie nodded. “Sounds like a plan, but I don't have as much heavy weaponry as you do. I can take out individual targets well enough but you're the saturation fire guy.”

I do apologize for the lack of action here, I had some IRL stuff pop up that prevented me from keeping up. I am catching up and will get a post out soon.

The fox raised his voice and yelled above the hubbub of the hangar bay. "HUNTERS, FRONT AN' CENTER! WE GOT A FLIGHT INCOMIN'!"

Leslie swore as she was elbow deep in the guts of her GEAR, finishing helping the technician feed a hydraulic line. Thankfully the otter had gotten ahold of the free end in time to let her run to answer the Captain's summons. Standing at attention next to Rishun, minding the yellow line after seeing them get chastised.

She arrived towards the end of Max's discussion with Rishun, and listened in to them talking about their capabilities. After he was done she leaned over and asked. "Hey, you sound like you're pretty experienced yourself. You been in on a few missions before? This is actually my first deployment and I'm still a little surprised I've been selected for this. I hope I live up to your standards," she said with a little smile.

Capturing the server room was easy. The handful of technicians had fled the moment the squad started cutting through the door, and their one officer and a pair of navy troopers had been gunned down in a brief firefight that the breaching team had finished before she had even raised her own blaster.

It was a fairly typical server room, nine glowing server racks arranged in a square from a central control console. Unfortunately for her the central console had been where the soldiers made their last stand, and the displays had been fried.

"This will take a moment," she said. After stepping over the still smoking Imperial officer, she used a knife to pry open one of the cases. As the rest of the squad fanned out to sweep the room, she let out a little sigh of relief as she found the motherboard still had a working port, which she quickly plugged into. "Strider, I'm in and downloading the files," she called to the Sergeant.

The Snivian looked back and gave her a thumbs up. "Good job, I feel like a sitting mynok here." He called out. "Tank, Doubles, go stand outside the door to make sure we're not snuck up on."

"Shouldn't be long, just a matter of time to let the slicer program run," she said. Her datapad showed the download was going quickly, and she took a moment to relax. The radio chatter had died down for now, though the station creaked with the occasional explosion, but with how deep inside they were it was very much muted. It was the muted beep from her pad that caught her attention, a new message displayed that simply said:

Bio-metric Authentication Required. Please Provide Thumbprint to Avert Security Alert

"Ah Kriff," She muttered "Gotta drag that officer over here". Then a visible countdown started under the message. "Ah Kriff!" She shouted, rushing over to the dead officer. Looking around, she shouted, "Heads up, I'm trying to stop an alarm from triggering!" Strider and a weequay private rushed over to help her drag the officer over to the scanner and she pressed the dead man's hand against the scanner. With just one second left, the countdown stopped to the relief of the trio. Then another message popped up.

Life Sign Check Failed. Activating Security Protocol.

Strider stood up and shouted out "Everyone, the alarm has been activated, get ready." He turned to the doors, only to watch them slam shut in Tank and Double's faces, the pair pounding on the door. Shouting into his radio, Strider tried to hail them to no avail. He gave Zed a pointed look. "Arrow, deal with this."

A few moments later, a droid voice announced "Intruder Detected." A few blaster shots echoed from the far corner of the servers, with the yelp of pain from her fellow squad-mates.

Both within moments Zed had ducked behind the control panels, searching for a way to deactivate the droids. This was a procedure that only was done with installations with a much higher level of security. This one seemed to be home-made. Normally she would take the chance to admire the ingenuity of how the used the general battle alert to trigger the flag to activate the—

"Arrow! Watch out another one is coming your you!" Zed jumped as she heard the mechanical footsteps of another droid approaching her. She popped her head up to look around, and nearly got it blasted off as a large dark KX Droid shot at her with a bloodied blaster. Letting out another swear, she ducked back down, another set of blaster shots coming overhead, going both ways. "Get them shut down now!" Called out Strider.

Zed shook her head out and went back to her task. "On it sir!" Soon she was surrounded by the few remaining squad-mates in the room, some of them already sporting nasty blaster wounds. Hands shaking, she searched for a way to override the alert, while her squad mates drew fire from the droids. The bio-metric 'lockout' just activated an alarm, and she was able to gain access to the program that had sent the droid. With some more shouts, the other KX droid joined in the fight, flanking the dwindling squad. They were pinned down, unable to return fire without risking getting shot. A few more seconds of slicing, and she had gained control of the program. She hammered the shutdown command.

The droids stopped dead in their tracks, their arms going down to their side as her Squad quickly destroyed them. Strider stood up and looked around. "Everyone's that still alive sound off!"

The surviving squad mates regrouped on them, Zed taking the time to finish the data transfer and lifting the lock-down. Standing up, the servers had been blasted to hell, but the redundancy of the Empire had saved ensured that she was able to get the files off them. Doubles and Tank burst through the doors as they opened but were quickly told to stand down. They and Zed were the only members of the squad to escape unscathed from the fight. Most only had minor wounds, burns and scratches when the servers they had been using for cover had been shot, but the poor trandoshan that found the droids had gotten a chest full of blaster bolts.

Pulling out a rag and wiping her sweat off her face, Zed had to lean on the wall to steady herself, still shaking. "Arrow, did you get the files?" asked Strider.

Zed nodded, and held her data pad up. "On this. What now?"

Strider shrugged. "I'll call this in and wait for orders. For now, take a moment to relax but stay sharp."
Hrm, perhaps a mech with a loadout with emphasis on mobility, or one with an emphasis on things like smoke, ECM, and other battlefield disrupting effects.

ALso, hello again @KaiserElectric!

Leslie had smiled at the Ibex's response. "Cool, I'm sure the cooks want us to get out of the way so they can clean up," she said as she stood up. Following the others, it took a few minutes to get to the GEAR bay. During that time Leslie went over her load out in her mind. A 20mm rifle would be a safe bet, given how flexible it was. A chainsaw would also be a good choice to help clear obstacles, along with a combat axe and combat claw. A utility tool pod was also a good idea

The most likely threat that they would have to face would be a man-portable anti-armor launcher. A back mounted ECM pack would help jam the guided ones, though they would have to stay vigilant to avoid dumb projectiles. Though in the hopefully unlikely case that they had to deal with enemy armor, a pair of Anti-Armor missiles on the shoulder would be useful.

Going back to what she could do to be useful in a fight, a rocket pod on her other shoulder would allow her to lay down smoke and heavy explosives as needed. All the GEARS were equipped with spotlights and there would be no friendly forces to worry about illuminating during this night mission. For that final rocket, knockout gas could be useful in capturing a target.

To round it all out, her shoulder shield would be able to store more than enough rifle ammunition and a few more smoke grenades, and a pistol on her hip, along with a trio of explosive charges would hopefully be enough to cover anything they came across.

She put in her load out to the head technician, and went to work helping them install the load out.

Loadout:
Left Shoulder HP: Rocket Pod, 3 smoke, 3 HE, 1 knockout
Right Shoulder HP: Anti Armor Missiles
L forearm HP: Combat Claw
R Forearm HP: Utility Tool Pod
Back HP: ECM Pod
Left Hip HP: Combat Axe
Right Hip HP: 20mm Pistol, 2 magazines, 2 Explosive Charges
Shield Storage: 10 Rifle Magazines, 3 smoke hand grenades
Hey sorry for the tardiness on posting, been having a tough week but I hope to post this weekend

Leslie did not spot the Captain walk in , and was a little startle by him piping in. Though given that the invite was to the entire squad, it wasn't too surprising he was here

"Anyhow, sucks I seem to have missed out on all th' socialisin'. But, I'm gonna head.. down? aft? to the ass end?" he gave an amused smile and shrugged "whatever the hell it's called I ain't in the navy, an' try my GEAR on fer size. Gotta make sure that the seat's adjusted properly, an' it's got the right cup holder installed. See ya down there, folks".

"Actually sir it's called the a—" She was cut off by the distinctly sinister laugh the otter let out. She couldn't tell what they were giggling about but the timing was a little worrying. Still, she couldn't help but find the otter's energy endearing.

"I will be trying my best to lend all my skills for this team. If you ever feel like your GEAR or any personal equipment could do with a technical touch, let me know. I am already compiling a list of additions or upgrades to your gear that I will present when we have more time."

"I'm sure we'll get along fine. I'm a little more on the physical side of machinery but I think I'll be working with you more often than not." Idly she wondered if this was the otter when she was cafinated. "But yeah, I'm not a stranger to fixing things as well. " She hummed as the little droid climbed over the tech guru. "Oh neat, that little thing looks like it could be handy"

The bear, well the bear was built like a brick outhouse, and the deliberate nature of his speech seemed to emphasize the strength of his body. His line about bullets practically was out of a movie. "I don't think I caught your name, actually. You sound like the heavy weapons guy? We'll probably end up coordinating a fire support position soon enough," she said.

Looking around, she realized it was too late to grab the Captain or the Lion. She was already forming a list of her GEAR loadout, but she could spare some time. Instead she turned to the Gazelle. "And you are the medic?" She asked, tapping her own shoulder where her combat engineer badge was. "Always glad to see someone like you around. Hopefully we won't need you but," she shrugged, "Better safe than sorry."

Drumming her fingers lightly on the table, she looked around. "So uh, this is actually my first deployment. I'm pretty excited about it. I was about to go set my GEAR up, if you wanted to join me?"
