Hello,
Welcome to my very vague and, I have no doubt, hardly inspiring profile. If I were to drop you a little bit of information on myself it would be the following. I'm just past thirty, served my country for eight years in the military, and I am now working in another Federal Government branch that is less camouflage and more leaning towards Investigative work.
I have attended University, earned a degree, and travel as often as possible, especially if the destination has castles, love castles. I work hard, I play hard, and writing essentially allows me an opportunity to refocus energy away from my job and into something that keeps me sane.
I despise fancy talking know-it-all assholes and everyone who talks a good game from behind the safety of their monitor. It's the internet ladies and gentleman, you aren't tough, clever, or mysterious simply because you spend countless hours crafting thinly veiled insults to people.
If you have an RP idea, hit me up. I am interested in Nation States Roleplay, and Advanced Roleplaying. Truth be told, I'd probably try anything once, to the point I enjoy played a Professor at Hogwarts once. The poor fellow ended up getting eaten by a Dragon, it was aweful.
Want someone who will get into a roleplay and not give a damn if his character dies as long as it advances the plot? Someone who will not give two hoots if his nation gets overrun and his people enslaved as long as it was awesomely done? Someone who doesn't mind playing a bad guy that's going to lose in the end anyway? Someone who just enjoys writing for the sake of story telling?
Call me.
I am here to enjoy myself, create worlds, and basically have a place to forget the real world. If you're looking for someone like that, I'm your man.
I was planning on my Vamps homeland having a sort of Lovecraft Country/Campbell Country feel, mixed liberally with classic Transylvania, itself located not too far away from the desert regions of the middle east.
Would a constant string of historical blood wars between the Vampire houses of said nation, and the possible vampire/lich lords of the Union be possible, lorewise?
Considering their differences on slavery, I could see it as a sort of parallel to the Crusades.
Flagg, to roll with this idea I sent you a character/faction sheet for the Drathian Ambassador. If you're cool with it I can draw up the basic history and lore for the Union and merge it with Ophidians idea?
Faction Type: Commercial Enterprise Leadership: The Tears, as it is locally known, is controlled by a commercial syndicate originating in the Drathan Union. Faction Specie(s): The upper management of the Island of Tears are of all races, as are the enforcers it controls and the slaves it sells. Those in the highest positions of power are from the Drathan Union itself and would simply call themselves "Undead" when pressed to classify their species.
Location: Off the coast of Jos lies a small Island, its actual name long forgotten. Over the past decades it has been developed into the thriving centre of the slave trade and bears more in common with the architecture from the Union than from Jos. The thriving settlement is now known as the Island of Tears, or more simply as The Tears.
Faction Religion/Ideology: The Drathan Union is well known for its practices in Magic, particularly Undead magic. Religion is based around a pantheon of gods, all of whom demand sacrifice. Slaves are good for more than just working.
Faction Description: A loose confederation of desert city states along the River Velym, mostly ruled by mage-lords, many rumored to be vampires and liches. The greatest of these cities is the vast port of Zar Dratha, located East of New Anathagos along the Bay of Teeth. The Union is a powerful but backwards place, usually aloof to concerns beyond its borders and protected by the vast deserts that isolate it from most other nations. Among important Union exports are crocodile skins, enchanted and magical goods, educated or trained slaves, and foodstuffs from the hyperfertile river valleys of the desert. It imports gunpowder, metals, maritime products and, above all, slaves of every kind.
Those on their first visit to The Tears have often expected filthy and squalid conditions but the Drathan's know that filth causes disease, and disease kills merchandise. As a result The Tears is kept clean and well maintained, perhaps even more so that New Anathagos. Regulations exist to provide proper care, food and basics to slaves. Not out of kindness, but because a healthy slave is worth far more. There is a section of the Island referred to as "The Barns" where long low barn looking structures hold the cheapest and most pathetic of slaves. Misery and suffering is a way of life here, but any slave purchased here is meant to be worked to death, or whatever its master has in store for it.
Faction History: Once home to little more than a few farmers and their pathetic crops the island was purchased generations ago by a Liche Lord from the Drathan Union when he was unable to land his slave ship in the city proper. Thinking quickly on his feet, he purchased the virtually worthless island from its few inhabitants and built the first slave market in order to sell his wares. Over the generations the slave markets have grown and expanded until they took over the entire island. Permanent structures grew, then Drathian investors arrived in greater numbers until it was a thriving commercial venture. The Drathians still hold sway over the island and it looks much like their own homeland, a testament to the influence they have had in the region.
Important Characters:
The Musharraf, or Overseer in the common tongue, is the ultimate authority on the Island of Tears. It is through her that permits to sell slaves are issued, slave pens leased, and a percentage of all sales collected. She of course moves in the social circles of New Anathagos, ensuring that no interference is forth coming from the Parliament, most of whom own at least a few slaves. The current Musharraf, Jamila Sayidat, is an Undead Mage of generous beauty who is said to have Vampiric tendencies, given that she doesn't appear to have aged in the past fifty years, it could easily be true.
Important Holdings/Territory/Possessions: The Island of Tears does not project power beyond its own coastline.
Relation to other Factions: The Island of Tears is neutral and will do business with anyone.
"Ah. Officer, it was a sweet day when I learned what is legal and what is right are two completely different things."
"Tell it to the judge, criminal. No charter of human rights here!" *Begin wanton beating*
Though, joking aside, I did have a chat with Flagg about this. This isn't Skyrim, or Assassins Creed, or any such outfit. The Guard isn't a bunch of failed adventurers nor are they simple cannon fodder. If you kill a couple of them, expect revenge to be swift. Though, judging from the quality of interest I see here, I expect more of you will probably operate like modern gangs, below the radar and trying not to attract attention, that is of course bad for business.
Faction: Type: Government Faction Leadership: Overseen by the Arch Lector. Faction Specie(s): If the race exists in New Anathagos, it can also be found in the employee of the House of Questions. Slaves who were bought and then freed, free born citizens of the City-State, any and call can be found useful by the Arch Lector.
The Mroxk are a humanoid species of rodent, the largest reaching perhaps four feet tall at the most. They are well known for their ability to sneak about and their knife work. Considered disgusting by most humans they are not common in the city save for in the employ of criminal syndicates, the Inquisition, and others who cannot afford better slaves.
These humanoid lizards are as tall as a human and immense strong in comparison to most. Their tenacious loyalty to those who free them from slavery have made them an ideal employee for the The House of Questions who is well known for buying such creatures and then freeing them, thereby earning fearsome fighters whose loyalty is unshakeable. They look much like a small dragon might with long deadly tails, often fitted with a spiked end, deadly claws, and long tongues that constantly flicker out to test the air.
A strange and twisted race of creature that looks humanoid at first glance. They are shape shifters and can take the faces of people nearby. They make excellent undercover agents and operate solely in the employee of the Inquisition.
The Zerea are a race that excites the human race. These creatures are graceful in their beauty, looking much like a human female of twenty years of age. Long hair, fine figures, all the things men want, plus wings and cloven hooves instead of feet.
Location: The House of Questions sits on the very edge of the city where it meets the mountains, an impressive structure that is pleasing to look upon. While The Guard is restricted in its ability to operate beyond the city walls, and even within certain sections of the city, make no mistake, the Inquisition is everywhere.
Faction Religion/Ideology: The House of Questions is a government institution as old as the city itself. It serves to maintain law and order in the city and surrounding area, some say its reach goes beyond common national borders. It takes its orders directly from the head of government and answers only to the Prime Minister and his immediate cabinet. The Arch Lector, the brain behind the House of Questions, is not an elected individual.
Faction Description: The House of Questions has two primary organizations within its own hierarchy. The first is The Guard, you might commonly think of it as the city guard. The second is the more sinister side of running a nationstate beset with numerous influences and peoples, the Inquisition.
The Guard provides basic street level law enforcement and defence of the city. These are the men, women, and creatures that pound the pavement and enforce the laws of the Parliament. They are well trained and well armed. Not just anyone can become a member of the Guard. Every year there are open hirings where anyone can apply but only perhaps ten precent of the volunteers will pass selection. The base level employee is known as a Guardsman, they pound the cobblestones and respond to theft, fire, murder, etc. The second rank are known as the Watchers. They are more specialized and exist to target specific problem areas within the city, such as organized crime and smuggling.
The Inquisition is the ever present hammer of Parliament. While The Guard maintains order and reacts to issues at hand, it is for the Inquisition to discover ahead of time what is planned and who needs to be stopped to prevent troubles from even reaching the street. Inquisitors operate in conjunction with the militant arm of their Order, Practicals, to root out an capture those would harm the city. They are overseen by Superiors, the managers and brightest amongst a group already known for being highly intelligent.
Faction History: The House of Questions has always been in the city. It has followed the history closely and always been involved in some way shape or form. Recently there has been a unique occurrence as the leadership of both the House of Questions, and the leadership of its sub-units, is not longer dominated by male humans.
Important Characters:
Arch Lector Aethria: This female Kelda recently came into her position following the death of her predecessor, he choked to death during a sexual act with a courtesan he had hired, the courtesan obviously died before telling her story as well. Aethria is the first non-human to hold the post of Arch Lector. She had been a field agent for twelve years before rising suddenly through the ranks of the Inquisition following her successful investigation and prosecution of a large human smuggling ring.
High Inquisitor Berya: A female of a rare race indeed, High Inquisitor Berya is one of a rare species known as the Zerea. She served in The Guard for some time as a high level scout for foot pursuits through the streets but her skills were soon seized upon by the Inquisition and she was moved across. Here she has served as an outstanding spy, scout, and assassin when needed. Her skills and dedication have been rewarded with her post.
Lord Commander Tavian Bowyer: The highest ranking male in The House of Questions, this pure blooded human is also a son of a city whore and noble father. Both parents died from some sexual transmitted disease. He started as a Guardsman and proved his skill as a Watcher. Now he holds the position he once thought impossible to obtain.
Important Holdings/Territory/Possessions: The House of Questions maintains all Guard Barracks, Forts, and Citadels inside the city walls. Numerous safe houses for the Inquisition also exist.
Relation to other Factions: The House of Questions is routinely trying to hunt down and eradicate crime, corruption and filth wherever it can be found.
I reckon that ought to do it! Got some weird races, some scary guys, some not so scary guys. I'm thinking it should do.
From the looks of it we need someone to keep law and order around here. I'll volunteer for it on the grounds my guys don't end up like every fantasy movie city watch ever. Guys who used to be adventurers until they took an arrow in the knee, or clueless idiots who watch someone jump into a haystack and lose sight of them... That something we could work out Flagg?
How very Colonial of you! Look, if you guys want a decent war then we can fast forward ten years since no one else is here. The Electorate can have expanded, you can have your alliance, and then I'll come after you. At the moment it makes no sense to go after the lizards since what my guys really need is fertile land :P Can't eat gold, and they've got plenty of that already.
