In Their Words: Skallagrim
Guild user and RP GM Skallagrim talks about Arena combat and its development and future on the Guild.

The Conversation: Gender Roles in Fantasy/Historic Roleplay
Joytex asks how far one should take adherence to the setting in regards to gender roles, particularly in RP's with considerable restrictions on what different genders can and cannot do as character concepts (such as historical RP's or Wheel of Time-based RP's) and how to get around that without taking away from the flavor of the setting of the RP.

Ask Away
Do you feel RP'ing improves your writing in other aspects of life? Does it harm other types of writing? Please feel free to post your answers in this thread!

Up and Coming
Interest checks are often the first stage in recruiting players for an RP, and a really good one can net you a lot of applicants. These are some of the interest checks that caught our attention recently. Best of all, they're looking for players!

Current and Cool
Roleplays on this list have already started (but may still be recruiting, please consult the GM) and also caught our attention; the hard work the GM and players put in to setting up the RP, writing their sheets and hashing out the details have paid off and now they're writing their in-character (IC) posts.

Tough Mudders
These are the RP's that kept going through the Guildfall; some of them have been around for years, and we're giving them a special recognition, because it takes dedication as well as talent to keep one of these going this long -- and the patience of a saint. These RP's are establishments within the Guild, and a little thing like Guildfall isn't keeping them down. (Note: Because of Guildfall, we;'re also recognizing sequels, since we know a lot of stuff was lost.)

On Display
- Art: Mecha's shit and occasional requests - Mecha is just starting a gallery here with us, but we're hoping, on the basis of what content we've seen, that he'll continue to keep it going. He says, "Cutesy stuff just ain't my style, mane," and we're down with it.
- Writing: Ontos' Fiction - Ontos writes short stories about the pontentials of the supernatural and their historical implications in modern-day settings, and how modernity copes with the magic.

About RPGN
RPGN is produced by a volunteer staff of rotten actors with møøse fetishes and limited fluency in the Swedish language that share the goal of bringing Guild members current and useful information about goings-on in our community. We are always accepting suggestions on categories and content. We're particularly interested in displaying people's artwork as a banner (and will fully credit it and link your gallery -- woo). For more information, feel free to PM RPGN.

This is your chance to work on the next (4.11.14) edition of the RPGN -- we need staff for all aspects of the newsletter, which include picking categories and working on various other types of content. We also need a graphic artist that wants to do the next edition's banner.

While we do not have a permanent staff, we do list who the current staff members are based on whether or not they provided content for the last two week cycle. There is no obligation to keep going after you run out of gas, and by the same token, we are willing to take people who just want to try their hand at the news.

For further information, please PM this account.

New Guild Features
In Their Words: Kaga
Guild user and RP GM Kaga sits down with Brovo of the RPGN to discuss Fandoms, a type of roleplay that is popular, but often mis-characterized within our community.

The Conversation: Godmoding: Appropriate or Necessary to Forward the Story?
blackensign wonders if godmoding (a user controlling someone else's characters) might be a useful tool to keep a storyline moving smoothly, and asks others for their opinions.

On Display
- Art: ℭαrα's Uniquely Titled Art Gαllery - Caratathraiel has a Guildfall survivor gallery that she's revived and has her character art commissions prominently on display.
- Writing: Dark Origins - The Life and Times of Alec Demonbane - Deamonbane shares the fantastic adventures of Kelor, a traveling poet with the ability to experience the worlds he reads about as if he were actually there. One dark book, shrouded in mystery, sets him on a journey to uncover secrets of the past. "Dark Origins" has the distinction of being the longest active story of the new Guild. It's a patient and thoughtful narrative, and there's more to come, so keep an eye out for updates!

About RPGN
RPGN is produced by a volunteer staff of Adams College scholar-athletes active in the Greek community who share the goal of bringing Guild members current and useful information about goings-on in our community. We are always accepting suggestions on categories and content. We're particularly interested in displaying people's artwork as a banner (and will fully credit it and link your gallery -- woo). Reporting Incidents to the Moderators
Don't acknowledge trolls.

- Don't talk about people getting banned.
- Don't say their names.
- Don't post in their threads.
- Don't make threads about them.
- Don't even acknowledge other people that are feeding the trolls.

Instead, just let us know.

If you do see a rules violation and something you want to report, please do not engage the person, but instead report it to us without replying to them. This makes the process of dealing with the problem easier for us.

The process is simple; when you report the problem, we will ask for certain types of information if not already provided in the initial complaint: having these items ahead of time will help the process considerably;

  • Links to the offending threads.
  • Screenshots of PM communication. (link; how to screenshot)

Once we have assessed the problem to see if there is, in fact, a rules violation, we will take action and let the party making the complaint know of the resolution -- in many cases, we will also want both parties in a dispute to stop communicating upon each other, enforceable by a warning or ban if future incidents occur, but we will make sure to actually communicate that situation. We generally require the parties in a dispute to cease communication both ways in these situations, recognizing that if both sides are ignoring each other, it's hard to get into further disputes.

In order to report a post, you can start a topic in 'Need Help?' We will get to it.

Also, here's a list of current moderation staff, but rather than PM us individually, it's advised that you post in the link above -- we have lives and the 'Need Help?' subforum means the first mod that logs on after you post it will handle it.

Special: The Guild Is Dead, Long Live the Guild

Looking Ahead
- Writer of the Month (WOTM) (the Guild's writing competition) is due to come back in to the Guild in mid-to-late March thanks to the dedication of its staff.

New Guild Features
- Tabletop Roleplay - For dice-based system roleplays.
- Nation Roleplay - A section devoted to roleplays where the player takes over the role of a head of state or similarly politically-oriented roleplays.
- Added "Invisible Mode" and "Hide Signatures" settings to the Edit Profile page.
- "Who's Online" system introduced.

In Their Words: Chev
Guild user and RP GM Chev talks about how he runs his RP's.

The Conversation: User Run Worlds
[Idea]User Run Worlds - Mahz asks for feedback on an idea to expand the Guild to include a section specifically designed for user-generated setting content so that other GM's and players can use this information to craft their own roleplays.

Ask Away
Which roleplay section do you write in the most and what do you like about it? What do you think of the other players in that section? What are your thoughts on the other section? What does the term "High-Casual" mean to you? Please feel free to post your answers in this thread!

On Display
- Art: Brands Gallery - Brand has a few pieces up and they are gorgeous. He prefers to work with digital art and is heading to school soon, so we are hoping to see more out of him in the future!
- Writing: Orbital: A Story about Time Travel, Dimension-Hopping, and a Gorgon's Daughter - Queen Raidne posted a story "of time-travelers, top-secret trans-dimensional military forces, and a gorgon's daughter. Updated at least once a month, so long as people and myself are interested." We're certainly interested.
