The saga of endings and beginnings

Foreword

Greetings, one and all. I am Ryougu, and hopefully I will be your game master before too long. As one might guess from the title, this idea is based off Magic The Gathering. While it may be a card game in origin and have its own lore, experience has taught me that using such is usually constrictive and bad for the roleplay as a result. Essentially, I don't plan to make this roleplay into a card game, and I don't plan to use any of the pre-established magic canon. What I will be using however, are some core concepts of magic, such as planeswalking and the division of magic into colors.

I understand this may sound like a bunch of random words to the people who have zero knowledge of Magic the Gathering, as such, I have added a small explanation at the bottom of this post.

Unbeknownst to mankind, elves, centaurs or any living species, the balance between good and evil was about to be shaken up violently. For months now, two powerhouses had been amassing strength and followers, safely out of one another's reach, yet very much aware of one another. It was for this day they'd been gathering their might after all. On this fateful day... life itself might be scoured from these planes, and one of these two powerhouses would spread their influence through the other's demise.

The two clashed for days on end, their fatigue meaningless as they replenished themselves with magic, taking mana from the land. Taking, taking and taking, so much taking, at the end of the 4th day, the land itself was drained and the battle looked to be over, one of the powerhouses on their knees with the other ready to deal the finishing blow. Before this blow could be struck, however, the would-be loser gathered the remaining mana on the plane, wringing it out for any energy, and with that energy, obliterated himself, his enemy and the entire plane. No one bore witness to this fight, yet it wouldn't be over. Each of the powerhouses had calculated the possibility of defeat, and thus appointed a successor.

This time around, however a group of scholars caught wind of the two growing forces, and created an emergency response force... Can another calamity be stopped, or is fate truly undeniable? Only time will tell...

Terminology

Planeswalking

Planeswalking is an ability possessed by a small margin of the living species across all planes. Planeswalking is the ability to travel between planes, put simply; the ability to teleport to another world.

Magic divided into colors

Magic has its magic divided into five colors, each with their myriad of possibilities, but generally showing a few characteristic traits, if you wish to make a character whose actual personality is unlike the generic example set for the color of their magic, this is fine too. We're here to have fun after all.

White:
White magic is a manifestation of order, law, justice, protection and so forth. Among many other things, white magic can be used to enhance the capabilities of oneself or others, through the means of enchantments. White is a color of solidarity, duty, justice, virtue and order.

Black:
Black magic is driven by desire, many black mages have great ambition--and are willing to go great lengths to see their ambitions realized. Black magic is infamous for its death spells, as well as its control of the dead. Black is a color of desire, ambition, pride, ruthlessness and sin.

Green:
Green magic is a product of one's harmony with nature. Whether it's communicating with the world around you, or altering entire rock formations, green magic has you covered. Green is a color of liveliness, instinct, ferocity, wildness, and strength.

Blue:
Blue magic is that of the mind. Blue magic specializes in gathering knowledge, manipulating someone's mind or distorting someone's senses, greater blue mages are even capable of destroying weak minds altogether. Blue is a color of wisdom, caution, inquisitiveness, tranquility and mischief.

Red:
Red magic is volatile and wild. Its fearsome and wild, capable of destroying its wielder along with their enemies if they aren't careful, red magic is often associated with fire, due to its danger, speed and its tendency to end up all over the place. Red is a color of chaos, fierceness, passion, creativity and rebelliousness.

Personality:
Rakun is a bit of a lone wolf, he's not used to having other people around and has a hard time interacting with others as a result. He doesn't actually dislike people, in fact, the opposite is true. But due his years spent in solitude, he's grown accustomed to being alone.

Despite him being unable to properly converse with people, Rakun still looks after others... or well, he tries. If he catches wind that someone might be in danger, he won't hesitate to run off and attempt to better the situation. Whether this is a natural instinct to him, or merely him trying to compensate for the past remains to be seen.

Skills

• Animal Handling (Master):
  Rakun is a master at handling any animal and at using them for transport, even among his peers from his nomad tribe, his capability to handle animals far exceeded their. While general steeds like horses are a preference, he's even ridden a bear before.
• Survival (Master):
  Rakun knows plants, animals, tracking, hunting and anything he needs to survive on his own in any kind of wilderness, be it plains, forests or even the mountains. Due to his time exploring, he also knows just which plants should be avoided and which can be used beneficially.
• Archery (Expert):
  Shooting from standstill, while moving, or even while riding an animal, so long as it's with bow and arrow, Rakun can shoot pretty accurately. Due to his expertise with bow and arrow, he knows what to look at in an arrow, making him capable of fletching given some time, tools and resources.
• Cooking (Apprentice):
  Rakun has been cooking for some years now, and seeing how he's pretty healthy even now, he shouldn't be too bad at it. He's far from a masterchef, but he can prepare a decent meal.
• Nature Magic (Journeyman): (Locked until Renewal)
  From taking on the aspects of an animal, to shaping rock, wood and other materials commonly found in the wilds, Nature magic commonly serves to aid the caster, rather than inflict harm like a fireball would. Rakun, being adapted to living in- and with nature, seems to have some aptitude for it.
• Sowing (Novice):
  Being able to fix simple cuts and tears in your clothes is useful in places where you can't just buy new clothes, but with this being the women's job, usually, so he's only ever nonchalantly helped out in his free time. As a result, he can fix his own clothing, but anything other than the fabrics he's familiar with, he can't work with, and his work isn't very impressive.
• Trading (Novice):
  Rakun used to be a very sly trader back when he still lived in the tribe... But they never used money in the tribe.

• Spell: Pathfinder
  Many people have a knack for finding suitable paths in swamps and forests, but Rakun takes this a step further, he appears to be able to find easily traversable paths even when there were none before.

History

Parents:
Rakun's mother died roughly a year prior to his desertion, his father on the other hand was still alive at that time. Rakun hasn't spoken to his father since then, and being from a nomad tribe, tracking down his father's location would be challenging. It's safe to assume Rakun's father does not approve of his desertion.
Siblings:
Rakun has two brothers and 4 sisters, all younger than himself. It is likely they're still with their tribe like he was also supposed to be, but due to the lack of contact, nothing is certain.
Childhood:
Rakun has been trained in everything that needs to be done in the low-tech environment of his tribe, from early age. In his free time he'd play with animals in forests the tribe settled near, or looking under rocks on the plains searching for odd creatures. Nothing particularly interesting happened to him early in his life.
Adulthood:
Once Rakun had reached maturity, his father started to grow old and unfit to rule the tribe, as the oldest son, Rakun was supposed to follow in his father's footsteps and rule the tribe, instead he disappeared one night, leaving the tribe behind, his task instead falling onto one of his siblings' shoulders. He has spent a few years traversing the plains, keeping his distance from his tribe. He planned to return once he'd found the courage, but as time passed, his will to return only faded, afraid of what they'd think of his desertion.
Special Moments:
The day his mother died and the night he ran away from the tribe.
Current Events:
After several years of living on the plains, with only his horse and the occasional traveler for company, Rakun decided to see out the big city and to build himself a new life, to replace the one he'd left behind.

Hmm, I agree with Ventus on this one. The goal was to reach 12 months, at least, right? We aren't there yet. So just purge/move a few plotlines so they only appear/become relevant later and you can focus on one thing at a time.
