In case you were wondering, yes, I drew my profile image. Do you like it? I think it has a depressing sort of beauty.
Disclaimer: I can sometimes be a little too honest, and my standards might be too high. People don't like that. But let it stand on record that I also view myself with the same light. I would not criticize others if I am not willing to take criticism myself. Be mature. Don't hold stupid grudges. If you've come here to scope me out, to find some shameful detail or quench some personal spite because my honesty upset you in some way, -- I'm sorry but there is nothing here for your desperate attempt at self-validation. I will settle the pettiness with an apology. Sorry. Happy?
Is that hot and humid? Or is it breezy and beachy? It's near the ocean, so it could be either? I don't actually know. The only time I've been on the East Coast is when I went to New York and Washington D.C on some school trips. I've been to Texas and down to Mississippi and dang those places are hot and wet as hell.
I will be making a character sometime tonight or tomorrow. Will need to find a chunk of time to sit down and get a satisfying concept drawing session done.
I recall a mentioning of character stats, how will those work?
EDIT: I also didn't put the enhanced ability effects for Vatalla's Tablet Power form. I was hoping to save those as a surprise, but am now considering you might not allow them for whatever reason. Even though I don't think they are anything overpowered or gamebreaking, I still wouldn't want to risk it. And not telling the GM about secret things is kinda bad.
Should I edit them in for public viewing, or shall I allow you to review them some other way?
Great, that is exactly what I was hoping to hear! :^D I think narrative importance, such as going through a major arc or finishing some sort of character growth is a good way of increasing class level, rather than mindlessly grinding ranked matches or something.
Right, quick question while things are on the back burner. What determines a character's Class level? Is it their official rank? I'm assuming from hints here and there, ranked battles are not mandatory but rather optional. At least some of them. If a character doesn't participate in those types of matches, is there another way of increasing Class level?
Name: Vatalla Jule Finnet, also known as the 'Hazy-Eyed Devil'
Age: 17
Appearance: Images compiled from various sources, i.e. Bookface, Tundlr, etc. Artist Credit: Myself.
Occupation: Third Year student. You know the place. I also do some monster hunting and body inking on the side. Gotta eat, you know.
History: [Mandatory Disclosure] This individual was directly involved with the incident 'Black Sundown' - 07/08/10, among numerous other cases of misconduct and misdemeanors. Because of the unique circumstances present in the aforementioned incident, the degree of offense has been lessened considerably for the individual involved. Any further information is [Classified]. As of [current date/time], they have served all mandatory hours assigned by the legal office.
Regardless, discretion is advised.
Class: 'Hellcat' - "Named it myself, cool, huh? Well, whatever, I think it's cool."
Class Skills:
[Active]
'Famine' - By activating the power from her shoulder tattoos, Vatalla is able to leave a cursed 'marking' upon dealing an attack to a target. The more damage she deals to the marked target, the more strength she steals. Subsequent marks applied make stealing easier, requiring less damage. The strength gained from this ability is lost when she falls unconscious or strikes a different target with the same ability. Forcibly removing these markings by any other means inflicts a 'curse' upon the bearer, sapping a greater portion of strength and sealing it away for a duration.
"Acting all tough, eh? Well, let's see how tough you are after this...!"
'Anxiety' - By activating the diagram on her back, when she strikes an opponent, she can 'cripple' their physical speed by a small amount for a short duration. It does not need to do significant damage. This ability can stack with itself multiple times, so long as she does not cancel the chain with another ability. Otherwise, once broken, it cannot be reset until the current slow wears off. Similar to 'Famine', any other methods of removal inflict a 'curse' that deals moderate to heavy damage based on the total number of markings shared between the two abilities.
"Ever experienced what its like to see the world in slow-mo? Here's your lucky chance!"
'Mist-Step' - By activating the diagrams located between her thighs, she can turn ephemeral for a split second. She will pass through objects and avoid damage not classified as [VOID] from all sources during its effect. Has a lengthy cool-down. This ability can be used again while the cool-down has yet elapsed, but doing so inflicts heavy [VOID] damage to herself afterwards. If used within 'Miasma', she can choose to reappear from any point inside the smoke.
"Gah! Ugh. I'll never get used to using that, will I?"
'Miasma' - By activating the sprawling diagram on her torso, she can rapidly exhale a black fog that completely obscures the vision of those she chooses within the mists. At most, the amount of fog produced can only fill a 20x20 square foot room. This fog can only be blown away by supernatural forces. Any new plumes created beyond the limit slowly replaces any previous instance of miasma. Targets affected by 'Anxiety' or 'Famine' that are within the miasma when 'Mist-Step' is cast, have their markings removed 'forcibly' and suffer the effects.
"We all have ghosts following us... Sometimes we welcome them inside."
[Passive]
'Cursed Bond' - Because of her life spent connected to the cursed mask, it has bled some of its powers into her permanently. Her eyes have since taken a sickly milk color and her body has been left scared, which she has taken to hiding in the form of strange tattoos. These supernatural eyes let Vatalla track things moving at speeds normal human eyes never could, granting her inhumane reaction time. They also allow her see in utter darkness and distinguish objects and sources of power by their 'essence'. With this gift, and her own learned experience, they render her resistant towards mind-controlling or illusory effects of visual appliance.
Her tattoos, along with helping her channel abilities, seem to grant her greater strength and durability than her body and build would otherwise suggest.
Because of her warped nature, all abilities, even standard attacks, linked to this passive are classified as [VOID] and affect both supernatural and physical entities, such as ghosts, angels, phantoms, and demons. Her conflicted state of 'limbo' also makes her resistant to such beings and similarly typed abilities.
All these effects are amplified when donning the mask 'Calamity'.
'Devil's Bargain' - The more damage Vatalla takes, the more powerful she becomes. Though at the cost of taking increased damage from all sources, double from [VOID]. At 40% Hit Points, she gains a maximum of a two tier boost in strangth, speed, or endurance from this passive. When struck with [VOID] at the maximum output, if she is still conscious, Vatalla breaks the limit of this passive, gaining benefits upwards to three tiers until 0% Hit Points.
Tablet Power:
‘Calamity’ - Her soul is linked with a strange horned mask. No one knows where it came from or how it came to be. It was simply there when Vatalla was found, atop the lonely steps of Foster’s Orphanage. It seems to bring about misfortune to others, earning itself and Vatalla a nasty reputation. Wherever the two go, 'calamity' seems to follow close after. She is extremely reserved in using its powers, even when her own life is in danger. It is a last resort only.
When donned, her physical capabilities are amplified by a huge factor and her active and passive moveset is enhanced. Her nails enlarge out to become black claws, which leave a deteriorating [VOID] wound when struck, and her tattooed scars glow and alter to signify greater potency. Damage from all sources aside from [VOID] is reduced during this state. Prolonged use of the mask will gradually increase the power granted in accordance, but will warp her body more and more. She will begin to show signs of instability and will have less willingness to take 'Calamity' off. Vatalla reverts back to normal once free from the mask, at any point, however she will be left in a damaged mental state based on the severity and length of the possession.
Fuck. Those doodles took much more time to clean up than I thought. X . X;; Welp, I got it done, at long last. Tried to keep a specific theme for the character, so that took a bit of extra effort too. Wanted to to do a sort of high-risk 1 v 1 focused ability comboing sort of thing. Dunno how well that worked. Guess I'll see in the morning. Even though the 'History' portion is optional, I tried to work something into her background to give her more depth and motivation. Along with laying grounds for her current attitude towards other characters, I imagined it being something to explore as a character arc. Potentially.
I don't mind changing things if any particular area gets out of hand. I sometimes forget my own limits.
EDIT: Fixed some awkward wording and changed some abilities around. Figured now is the best time since you haven't seen the sheet yet.
