How's this?

Name: Milo Stevens

Age: 14

Element: Aetherial

Appearance: Milo is small for his age, having not yet had his growth spurt. He currently measures 4'6" tall and has a lithe, slender build. His hair is fine and golden blond in color and hangs nearly to his shoulders, concealing his slightly pointed ears behind the unusually long tresses. His face is round and youthful with high cheekbones and only a few zits across the porceilain skin. His sapphire eyes are large and round, giving him an owlish, somewhat surprised appearance. His smile is nearly perpetual and often reveals two deep dimples on the sides of his face.

Personality: Milo is a ball of sunshine in all but the most extreme circumstances. He's not one to crack jokes, but he will find a bright side to most situations. His positive attitude makes friends easily and encourages his teammates. He is an extrovert, but only barely. He likes spending time with his friends and/or teammates, but also values his "me time" and personal space.

History: Milo was born in a small elementalist community far from the academy, but he had heard about the academy from his parents practically since the day he was born. Milo was born to a long line of elementalists of all elements, including darkness (though they often did their best to conceal their true powers due to the stigma attached to manipulating shadows), but Milo was the first to be gifted with the power of the Aetherial, being able to control all the elements. His powers first manifested on his tenth birthday when he not only blew out the ten candles on his birthday cake, but blew them over. A week later, it was clear that Milo was not merely a wind elementalist when he was stuck out in the rain waiting for his mom to pick him up after school and he never got the slightest bit wet. As the weeks went by, Milo slowly but surely displayed other talents with the other elements: he cut his finger by accident and it healed within minutes, the power went out one night and he glowed like a lantern for a moment, he even caused a lightning bolt drop out of a cloudless sky and strike the ground a foot from where he stood. With Milo being able to control so many elements, it was clear that his power was in the Aetherial, and his parents couldn't have been prouder.
Milo had a fairly ordinary childhood. He went to an ordinary school and took ordinary classes. When he was 6 he started taking gymnastics. With his small, light build, he was good at vaulting and tumbling, but he lacked the arm and shoulder strength for bars, rings or pommel horse, but this suited him fine since he was more interested in the vault and floor exercises anyway. To keep him limber and flexible, Milo's coach recommended Milo practice yoga and/or Tai Chi, which Milo did and continues to do to this day. He also continued with gymnastics throughout middle school and even competed regionally on his middle school's gymnastics team.
When Milo was 12 years old, he talked his parents into letting him take fencing lessons and he has begun to learn how to use a foil. He also picked up the habit of writing short stories and poems and has a fondness for writing by hand with a quill.

Equipment: Milo brought his blue yoga mat, a wooden Tai Chi sword, a foil, a few quills, a bottle of ink, and a small knife for keeping his quills properly sharpened.
Seth followed the others as they ran down the hall and out to freedom. Unfortunately, Seth had never had exceptional endurance and was already starting to breathe heavily as he exited into the burning sun outside. He took a moment to lean against the wall of the building just to the side of the door he had just exited through so he could catch his breath and take stock of their surroundings. He was glad of the thick greenery around them for the cover it provided for him and his fellow escapees, but he was also fully aware that there could be other dangers lurking unseen among the scrubland. This fear was soon confirmed as he saw the brunette run into a guard who had just come up from a blind to attack her. Thankfully, she dispatched him and began relieving him of his possessions. This convinced Seth that the time for leaning against walls and catching one's breath was not now, and he jogged forward to meet up with the brunette and the other boy, keeping a watch for any other guards that may be watching them.
@Strange Rodent Um, wouldn't you have been the one to catch up with the brunette and not the other way around, seeing as she left before you (assuming you're referring to Laura since she's the only brunette currently playing)?

@Arya10108909 I'm not sure yet. I'm just now joining this so I'm not fully clear on how it all works yet, and I'm still developing my character. I'll try to look through some of the IC later and get more of a feel for how people do this stuff and see if I can get any ideas for how Milo might do it.

@ZelosseThanks for the clarification. I think I'll take Aetherial in that case since I'm not sure I'd be able to impress you, especially since I'm working on a character in another RPG, and I have homework that needs doing every week.

@Sedjwick no teachers. Other than that, feel free to apply

I was thinking of being a student anyway. A few questions first, though. First, could you explain what Aetherial is? It's not very descriptive. Sorry if someone else has asked this before, but I don't want to go sifting through 100+ pages of OOC to find the answer if it is there.
Second, would gravity and/or magnetism be possibilities for sub-elements?
Thirdly, and I understand this might be a long-shot since you don't know me, but would it be possible for my character to be able to use darkness? As I see it, darkness cannot be inherently evil, and it would be interesting to see how someone who is genuinely good would have to deal with the stigma of being able to control the darkness.
After waking up in a lab, strapped to a table, things happened way too quickly for Seth. One moment, he was a test subject in some unknown experiment, and the next a woman had broken into the room and was freeing him and the others in the room. Seth noticed that the others in the room, besides the one freeing them, were the ones that had also been with him on the bus to Vegas, not that he really knew who any of them were.
The woman gave Seth a pink crystal, telling Seth and the others that they could alter the matter around him, whatever that meant, and then ran out of the room, leaving Seth utterly bewildered. And as if that weren't enough to think about, this was quickly followed up by four men with tasers ordering him and the other people back onto the tables so the scientists could continue their (probably illegal) experiments. Thankfully, Seth wasn't the only one who was having none of this, and before he had time to react, two others had quickly taken out the guards, one even taking a taser to the shoulder and somehow electrocuting one of the guards with it. Seth would wonder about that later. As he and the others made their way out, Seth paused to take a taser from one of the downed guards. Until he knew how to use these crystals, he would do well to be armed.
Name: Seth Wilson
Sex: male
Age: 29
Appearance: Seth is about 5'9" tall with thick, long-ish brown hair, green eyes, and a bushy beard that is a bit more red than the hair on top of his head. He has fair skin and a lean build that is slowly developing some muscle from recently joining a gym
Skills: very smart (not a genius, but above average), writing stories (when he has the inspiration and motivation to actually do so), procrastinating (if you can call it a skill, but he is very good at it)
Personality: In most normal situations, Seth is brave, sometimes to the point of recklessness, but never to the point of stupidity (with the current situation being anything but ordinary, there is a chance that this bravery and recklessness may be tempered some). He likes a good adventure, but is more accustomed to adventures of the "ordinary" variety while the less ordinary ones tend to be confined to books and video games, both of which he enjoys immersing himself in when he has the time. Unfortunately, he often has so much studying and homework to do that he doesn't have as much time to read or play video games as he would like (unless he chooses to procrastinate rather than do the homework/studying he should be doing). He tries not to be bothered by this, though; he gets the work done when it counts and makes sure to have enough time to enjoy himself that he doesn't go crazy. He likes to help people if he knows how, but can become frustrated if he doesn't understand something. He describes himself as a scholar, scientist, and artist, and has been diagnosed with high functioning Asperger's Syndrome.
Bio: Seth had a fairly average life up until about 5 minutes ago when he woke up in a lab as an unwilling "test subject" for some sort of experiment. He had been born in a big city, but moved to a small town when he was only 5 and so barely remembers anything about his life in the big city. At school Seth was a mostly straight A's student all the way through his sophomore year in high school, though it became apparent in elementary school that he struggled more than he should have with the amount of work he was given. Over the years, Seth went to several specialists about this, but since none of them told either him or his parents anything about what they had found out, nothing got done. Still, since Seth continued to do well in school, not much complaint was made.
By the age of 10, Seth had decided that he wanted to become a geologist, and by the age of 13 he had decided which university he wanted to attend to get his degree. By the age of 14, Seth had decided that he would first go to a local community college for a couple years and get his general ed classes out of the way. He graduated from high school summa cum laude, despite a few hiccups in his grades during the last couple years, and enrolled in the local community college for the following fall semester. His first two semesters were just barely short of fiascoes. He took on more than he could handle and ended up dropping or doing poorly in two of his classes each semester while doing fairly well in the other two. It was after this that he visited a psychologist who diagnosed him with high-functioning Asperger's Syndrome. Due to the difficulty of handling even four classes at at time, Seth had to dial back his course load to only two classes each semester or three if one of them was exceedingly easy (like some sort of P.E. activity class). He also learned not to take two writing-heavy classes in the same semester (such as an English and a social science class).
During his time at community college, Seth decided to take a couple semesters on a slight detour from his pursuit of a geology degree and took a couple creative writing classes. He had developed a few stories in his head and wanted some guidance to help get them developed so that he could hopefully get them published one day. The classes certainly helped him, and he has continued to work on his stories, though none of them are very complete besides a few short stories in their early second drafts. Even so, he continued to pursue this passion even as he began looking once again to a degree in geology. A year after taking his creative writing courses, Seth applied for a job at the college's Writing Center. He was hired and quickly began learning how to help other writers become better writers while becoming a better writer himself and also developing valuable interpersonal skills. He also helped organize events to promote the Writing Center and became much more involved in the campus community. After five years, though, he was able to transfer, and left for the University he had been wanting to attend since he was 13, leaving behind the college and the job he had come to love.
Adjusting to University life proved both easy and difficult for Seth. On the one hand, the classes he took were not much harder than the ones he had taken at the community college back home, but on the other hand, he had a lot more responsibility, having to take care of himself completely without having anyone reminding him when to go somewhere or do something. In a way, the independence was liberating, but in other ways it was somewhat intimidating. Another problem was transportation. Seth did not have a car, nor did he have a license, meaning he would have to rely on public transportation or his own two feet to get anywhere off campus, and when he once tried to look up the bus schedule for the city, what he found was so confusing he couldn't make heads or tails of what he was looking at, and with the city being so much larger than his hometown, things were bound to also be a lot more spread out. Even so, he was able to find a few places that were within walking distance if he needed something that he couldn't get at one of the stores on campus. But university life was not without its joys, and one such joy that Seth discovered was the field trips that his geology classes had. Seth had never before been camping, so when one of his classes had a weekend field trip into the mountains and surrounding areas, Seth was totally unprepared for the adventure. Thankfully, there was an organization on campus that offered rentals of camping and backpacking equipment and was able to help Seth get at least the most important things that he didn't already have. Seth had a blast on his first ever camping trip and was eagerly looking forward to the others he would have, though there was only one other opportunity that semester.
After surviving his first semester, Seth went back after the winter break for the next semester. One evening, as he was checking his e-mails, he got a message from one of the Geology faculty informing all geology students about a geology conference at the college of Nevada Las Vegas coming up in a few weeks. Seth was quick to register to attend the conference, and on the Friday morning before the conference, he found himself at the Greyhound station getting a bus to Reno from which he would connect to get another bus to get to Vegas. On the bus to Vegas, he was just starting to doze off for a nap so he would be semi-well-rested for the conference in the morning when the bus broke down. With an irritated sigh, he got off the bus with the rest of the passengers. He was even more rankled when he heard that they wouldn't be able to get another bus until 8:00 AM the next day, meaning he would miss the better part of the first day of the conference, but unfortunately there was nothing to be done for it, so he took the room in the motel and was just about to get ready for bed when things got weird, and when he woke up, suddenly getting to that conference was the least of his worries.
So, is my character approved, @TheUnknowable?
