SO I really want to run a Zelda RP because it wounds exciting.
BUT instead of just narrative I also want to use some tabletop mechanics to frame combat.
I GUESS that makes this a tabletop RP but it's
extremely rules-light.
HOWEVER, I want to make sure that you that are interested understand the context of this world.
In this world, the fields or Hyrule is uncivilized, and woven from the scattered villages throughout the vast land. The ruins of the Castle haunt the northern lands. The royal family was lost and the kingdom too disappeared. The incursion of dark forces ravaged Hyrule for many years until the darkness subsided and what was lift of the world became nature's once again.
But that makes it no less dangerous to walk in broad day light. However, those with courage know that fear is your greatest enemy in this world. They are the links connecting the villages together. This new band of heroes are descendants of that man. Each of them carries a little bit of his power as well as one of his tools.
That's who you are, the children of the hero who've pledged to help ride the world of darkness and unite the people of Hyrule.
So who exactly did the hero wed? Was it the Princess Zelda or perhaps the rancher's daughter?
That's for you to decide. Each of the players may claim that the hero wed any particular character from the games. No one can verify that Link married the princess or just a girl on a Farm. The fun part is creating a character that was told his great grandfather married someone not even part of the human race, like the Zora princess or even Midna.
Your claim to the Hero's heritage is in your tool that you've learned to use. These timeless items come from various places such as the Fierce Deity's Mask, Master Sword, Fairy Boomerang, Hookshot, and even magic spells like Din's Fire. The character can be of any race except that they are half-human since the hero was but a man of Hyrule.
Since I mentioned light rules, I want to clarify that the stats are: Hearts, Strength, and Magic. You get 3 hearts, 2 Strength and 1 Magic for free. Then you get 2 points free which you can distribute among those three stats. They should be pretty obvious as to what they do. Hearts is your health and if that drops to Zero then you've fainted. Strength is the amount of hearts you take from a foe using such things as weapons and race abilities. Magic is both like strength and hearts as each point takes away from a foe's hearts but when you use a spell it takes away from magic.
There's no dice rolls or anything like that but only I decide if your attacks land based on your description. So the better you post the more your attacks land!
By defeating bosses you'll discover troves of things like Heart Containers, Strength Bracelets, and Magic Potions which can increase your stats. Then there's also more tools which the characters can learn to use over time.
The big thing about your tools you begin with is that they each have a function in battle that will separate them from each other.
Masks: Transformation. +2 points to spend on stats during a transformation. Try to keep the themes making sense. Why would the Goron mask give bonus magic?
Tools: Range. when using it in the proper range you get +1 to strength. The sword is close, the ball and chain is Medium, and the bow is far.
Spells: Status. When using magic you can inflict three types of status based on your spell. Freeze keeps a foe from acting for 1 turn. Burn causes a foe to lose 1 heart for 3 turns. Confuse makes a foe strike himself or an ally.
the rp progresses and you all explore dungeons then you can learn to use your masks, tools, and magic in better ways which can add bonuses. Sometimes you'll find a new item with a power that's unlike anything you've seen before.
One thing I do have to say is that Power Creep is inevitable. As the game goes on, enemies are going to be stronger and so are your tools and stats. That being said, there's still going to be a lot of choice in your actions. Where you go in the world is pretty much up to you as well as why you go there. But one thing is clear, you all have devoted yourselves to protecting the people from the darkness.
So anyone interested? I'm willing to take a large or small group based on player interest. Just post here and if people come then I'll get the ooc started.
