Brandy sat back and listened as Devin essentially pled his case. When he said that the encounter seemed to be leaning in their favor, she was doubtful. She didn't know what it was but there was something about Codex that made it seem as though even when she was doing you a favor, it was still to her benefit. Watching her carefully, she returned the smile while the girl was on the phone. When she returned to her phone call, it finally dawned on Brandy why she didn't trust her. Her behavior reminded her of the popular girls back in high school.
Now the young archaeologist was by no means a nerd, but she wasn't obsessed with varsity football and didn't care about which actor was caught out on a date with what actress. Since she wasn't even willing to pretend to care, she got bullied because of it. But her torment wasn't limited to demands for lunch money and dirty rumors. Quite the opposite. One of the senior cheerleaders befriended her and hooked her up with a varsity football player. In fact, they dated most of her junior year. Come time for prom, she was dressed to the nines and looking forward to the afterparty more than the promm itself. When all the cheerleaders and football player headed up to the hotel room, they paid someone to keep her back just long enough for the plan to be set in motion.
When she entered the hotel room, they were in the midst of a party and her boyfriend had his tongue down her "best friend's" throat. With a smirk the girl explained the whole trap. Her only reasoning behind it was to teach her that if you weren't with them you were against them. But even when she was on their side, after they'd had their fun with her they stabbed her in the back.
She could see that Codex was capable of that same behavior. Taking a sip from her drink, she listened as the details of the evening were explained. She choked slightly when her full name was used. Brandy tried not to shrink under the vengeful glare that Codex left with.
"That was better than you expected?" She shrieked following him to the bar. "That was...that woman is terrifying! And you've been to prison? How did she even know my full name?" She asked trying to keep her voice at a reasonable level, but failing. She glared at Devin before storming out of the bar.
Standing outside she leaned against the brick wall. She just got exposed to a lot of information way too fast. Pushing her hair out of her face, she took a few deep breaths and tried to regain some composure. Once her breathing was steady, she pulled out her phone to check the balance on her card. If they were going to an ambassador's ball they needed to get some fancy, and sadly expensive, clothes. Glancing at her total, her eyes widened slightly. The museum back in Istanbul had already paid her, and it was a very comforting number. A small smile crossed her lips. At least that was one less thing Brandy had to worry about.
