A Game of Madness, Beauty, and Finding Your Way Home

"Up the airy mountain / Down the rushy glen / We dare not go a-hunting / For fear of little men."— The Fairies, William Allingham

Hello, and welcome to Changelings Anonymous, an RP based on the game Changeling: The Lost by White Wolf, creators of Vampire: The Masquerade and all that other good stuff. Don't worry if you've never played it or even heard of it before; I'll tell you everything you need to know below. Changeling is a game about fairy tales, but it is by no means pleasant or child friendly - expect a dark, beautiful tale full of horror and wonder in equal measure, about paranoia and loyalty, about being broken and healing, about being lost in the woods and ultimately, finding your way home again.

Alright. I think that's my job done. Have fun!

"Seven long years I served for thee,
The glassy hill I clomb for thee,
Thy bloody clothes I wrang for thee;
And wilt thou not waken and turn to me?

He heard, and turned to her."
— The Black Bull of Norroway
Alright, awesome. I'd say that's enough interest to justify starting the OOC, so with luck and industriousness that'll go up by tonight.
I never played Changeling, but I am interested.

Good to have your interest! And don't worry, you don't need to have played Changeling before - if and when this gets enough interest to make an OOC, I'll include a better and more complete explanation of it there.

Quite the opposite, actually. Beast is my number one favorite, second only to Classic WoD vampire. The other that I have no interest in is the ever vague and pointless Mummy. For Changeling, I just dislike how White Wolf took their most optimistic and cheerful game and turned it into something so different and sucked out all the joy. That said though, I'm likely to shadow this. WoD is my absolute favorite RP storytelling setting, so saying this is one of my least favorite WoD splashes is like saying mint chocolate is my least favorite chocolate.

Ah, right. I completely forgot about Mummy as a contender, which I think says all there is to say about it, really. And I can respect the tonal issues with Changeling - I always thought that, while a more grim and horrifying fairy tale game was interesting, they went a little too far to make it hopeless, which is something I was planning to resist in this RP - more beautiful madness, less mad sadness.
Well... ouch.

Is the other one Beast? Please say the other one's Beast.
Hello good people, I come before you today to propose a roleplay I have been thinking of for some time, based in the world of Changeling, one of the tabletop rpgs from the Chronicles of Darkness line. I'd be looking for about four or five people, depending on interest.

A brief description, for those not in the know: Changeling takes place in an urban fantasy setting where fairies are very much real and very much of the terrifying variety. Players are normal humans who were kidnapped by beings known as True Fae, powerful alien entities, and dragged back into the Fae realm of Arcadia to serve as slaves for whatever bizarre purpose their master has for them - pet, laborer, pit fighter, entertainment, living furniture, you name it. Changelings, as they are called, are invariably twisted and transformed by their time in Arcadia, becoming part fae, part human, and they're often scarred and traumatized by the horrors they endured. Sometimes, changelings manage to escape, returning to the mortal world as something both more and less than human to find that the world and often their loved ones have left them behind, and that's where the story starts. I'm simplifying a bit, but it's an interest check. You'll get a deeper summary in the OOC.

So, the game as I see it would be essentially a story about a small group of changelings in New York City who have all recently escaped the fairy world, and are brought together through mystical means to a kind of... support group / adventuring club. They would deal with both their own traumas and a variety of supernatural threats, with a tone generally a bit lighter than most games of changeling - it's a grim premise, but I'd want it to be clear that healing was possible. It would likely be fairly episodic, monster of the week in nature - I'd probably run the first few plots, as I have some ideas, but players could eventually submit and run their own if they want. I'm relaxed about stuff like that. Also, I'd streamline the bajeezus out of a lot of the 'gamier' elements of the setting, so we wouldn't have to worry about experience and skill points and traits and dice rolls and stuff like that getting in the way of storytelling and character development.

So, who'd be interested in a high-casual game of horror and beautiful madness, of hurt and healing, heavily informed by poetry and song and folklore? A game of character development, friendship, adventure, mystery-solving and faerie fighting? A sort of Jessica Jones meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Pan's Labyrinth type game? Anyone?
Interested, though I've never played WarFrame.
I had abandoned this RP 2 days ago and had unsubscribed from the OP.

And now here I am casually scrolling through the Interest Check forum and I see an interest boost.

I'm rather slightly stunned.

Well... welcome back to the world of the living!

Seems like one of the main items still on the agenda is fleshing out skills. How would you guys feel about giving all skills a numeric value from, say, 0 to 25 - could be any number so long as it's easily divisible by 5, so that different levels can roughly correspond to novice, apprentice, etc. Would be pretty cut and dry for magic, but maybe something else would be needed for physical skills? Just a thought.
Wait, is there still room? Please say yes.
@DocTachyon

Thank you kindly. Am I clear to move her to characters tab, then? Or did you want to reserve the first post?
