On the history note, perhaps this could be some hunt for an ultimate cache or treasure? Some prewar bunker filled with all sorts of amazing supplies. The Red Baroness, coming from a serious heritage, has some sort of family legend or story that tells of such a place? The Baroness, with the desire to dig deeper into her father's tragedy and leave behind some sort of legacy. Perhaps this treasure story is the reason why her father died in the first place?
I don't know, there plenty of paths and potential plots that could be extracted from her background that could serve as foundation for the main plot. From conspiracy to adventure!

Something like the USSR around?
I would suspect something similar. Probably something closer to Russia when everything tore at the seams. Pro Royalty fighting Commies fighting Feds fighting Fascists. Think Metro 2033 but with less metro. XD
At least, that's my idea for Russia. Perhaps even a Mongol type faction resurrected from the chaos? Flying around, masters of hit and run warfare, ect, ect.
